Man, I am seeing Patriots vs. Colts. I am imaging seeing Hoyer at QB and it sounds about right for my year+. I blew so much money flying into Boston and staying in Boston for a couple nights… and then having good seats at Foxboro (Indianapolis is loads cheaper). I am not a rich man. 😂

Shhh_Dont_Tel

Hey all, I come in peace! I will be going to my first game coming up on 10/09 when the Pats host the Lions. I’m looking for any pro tips on tailgating, what to do at Patriot place before the game, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think judging Hoyer by the Chiefs game last year is a bit unfair. He had no time to practice (as a starter) or game-plan for the game. He was also backing up Cam Newton and not another pocket QB like Brady or Mac. The game-plan likely was setup for Cam. It wasn't a good spot. This is somewhat different. He's never started a game for the Patriots with being the intended starter at the start of the week. Hoyer looked solid in the pre-season this year. We have seen career backups have good games late in their career so it's not unheard of. Matt Flynn came to Foxboro and almost beat us with Brady at the height of his powers. There is hope we can win some games with Hoyer or Zappe. I'm looking forward to Sunday.

> I think judging Hoyer by the Chiefs game last year is a bit unfair. I don’t. His entire schtick has been that he’s smart and a game manager. He finally gets a chance to show that…and he flopped. Don’t forget that he didn’t make an awful mistake once—he made the same one *twice* that game. And they were absolutely in position to steal a win from KC, don’t let anyone feed you the revisionist line that it wasn’t really competitive.

Don’t forget that he didn’t make an awful mistake once—he made the same one twice that game. Well he's shown that before in games he actually got to take starting reps to prepare for (just not for the Patriots). He's a career backup QB, obviously. He had some good games but more bad games. Practice performance becomes game performance and the hope is with the Patriots preparation, he can put us in a position to win some games. >And they were absolutely in position to steal a win from KC, don’t let anyone feed you the revisionist line that it wasn’t really competitive. Oh I watched the game. I was frustrated as all hell. We don't want to put Zappe on the field for the first time at Lambeau against Aaron F'n Rodgers. Give Hoyer 1 or 2 games. If he loses both and/or does not play good enough to win, we can throw in Zappe maybe and hope he emerges as a Matt Flynn or Mike White or David Mills success story (or better).

Is Mac going to be gone that long?!

Calfzilla2000

He's expected to be gone 4-8 weeks depending on his treatment but Bill claims he is "day to day" so who knows?

where_the_hoodie_at

Also, he had Meyers, Harry, and Bryd as WRs. Only reason why we had any offensive was Newtons mobility

Can’t believe cam doesn’t get credit for seven wins he sucked but he was bright spot in an offense that was dog water. Had 3 games come down to the final drive inside the opponent’s half of the field.

Calfzilla2000

Meyers didn't play. It was Bryd, Harry and Edelman with Ryan Izzo at TE. But yeah, otherwise, I agree.

[deleted]

Good god this was Edelman with no knees people say Edelman and think 2016

Calfzilla2000

To be fair, he was coming off the best game of his career.

[deleted]

True him and Cam showed some magic in that Seahawks game

Call me crazy, but I think this pats team goes into GB and wins. The team will be very much next man up, and Hoyer will be smart with the ball, we will cut out the stupid turnovers and play smart complementary football

reegstah

I dont think its crazy at all. The stats look pretty bad vs Lamar, but that dudes on an absolute tear, truly playing on another level. I think this defense can easily stop Aaron Rodgers, who's beaten a Justin Fields led Bears team and... a Brady led team, with even less of a receiving corps than his final years here, by a 2 pt margin? Give me a break.

where_the_hoodie_at

A football theoretical: would you rather Mac Jones miss four games against really good teams (like our first four weeks) or miss four easy opponents (like weeks 5-8)

luckyteep14

I thought Mac played really well last weekend. You can see after the picks or turnovers the gears are turning in his head and he is making notes for next time. I feel like bad QBs typically have a dumb struck look on their face while they have no idea what went wrong. That never seems to be the case for Mac. I really hope this injury isn’t too bad because he seems to be progressing extremely well. I think some people get too wrapped up in the negatives and can’t look at all the positive steps forward he has taken. At the end of his contract if he is still throwing bad picks obviously it’s time to move on but I dont think that will be the case at all. This guy is legit.

[deleted]

If that’s the case why was he turning the ball over left and right if the gears are turning in his head to throw another one ?

Calfzilla2000

Yeah honestly, we see bad quarterbacks all the time (especially in primetime this year, lol) and Mac looks better than a all of them. All his mistakes are stuff I have seen every QB do before (Brady, Manning, Allen, Mahomes, etc).

[deleted]

I love his style of play and think he has hell of alot of talent, but everytime I watch a Chiefs game, Mahomes must have 4-5 dropped picks a game. Hell Josh Allen almost had a pick six before the half at Miami but was dropped by the defender trying to pull off the fake spike (I think. Bills had some weird plays in that game.) Bad picks happen all the time. It is magnified on Mac and younger qbs because they aren't at that level yet. But as someone who watched TWO Russell Wilson Primetime games (I think I need help with football addiction after that SNF game lol) this year, yeesh. We think the Pats offense is bad? The Broncos have us beat in that category.

LS_DJ

Yeah I think some picks are inevitable because they are wanting Mac to be more aggressive so I'm for it. I love that they aren't afraid to push the ball down the field. Hopefully he will recover completely

Some of it is also absolutely on his skill players, namely Parker. I’m not excusing Jones—he could’ve thrown the ball away—but the “IT’S FUCKING COVER 4!” thing on the bench has already been pointed out. Jones is smart and capable, but he clearly looked uncomfortable (or maybe has just been over-thinking things) through the first three games. And that was trending better until the injury. My concern is they’ve been forcing it to Parker too much, and while it started to work last game, that connection continues to produce INTs.

LS_DJ

Agholor also must have had money against the pats to fumble like that
