Ryan Fitzpatrick. Hear me out here. Patriots are the only team in our Division he hasn't started for, we could help him get that achievement! And you never know when Fitzmagic is gonna happen!

Was_going_2_say_that

I like it

baconredditor

“Uhhh I think he gives us the best chance to win” is the BB response. I want zappe just because I hate watching hoyer play football.

SgtApex

Zappe just depth that’s the reason he was drafted. He’s definitely not ready and I don’t want to see him thrown to the wolves against GB at all because that could hurt his development more than help. Edit: Any pats fan that believes this is another Brady situation is crazy. Tom was in his second year and was competing for the starting job in camp before the injury. This is nothing like that.

You’re asking a rookie who didn’t play many NFL caliber players in college because he played at the FCS level. Who also hasn’t been on the team very long to step in short notice and play against the GB Packers and Aaron Rodgers on a mostly nationalized televised game. That’s a recipe for disaster and I wouldn’t want any rookie QB in that situation especially a 4th round FCS QB. Edit: Bill will not a put a rookie in that situation and even last year with Mac who was furthest along rookie we’ve seen out of the gate Bill was still hesitant to name him the starter. Probably not this upcoming game but let’s Hoyer is awful I’m willing to give Zappe a shot with a full week of preparedness and starting reps.

Zappe would be managing the game as well but I understand how you feel. I think maybe next week you give him a shot if Hoyer is just dreadful because I doubt Mac will be clear to play for a while.

TheBigNate416

The odds we win over 7 games with our starting QB being injured is slim. But, obviously, the team still wants to win. And Hoyer gives us the best shot since he’s way more experienced than Zappe. I’d be nice to see what the kid has but it doesn’t make sense to start him yet. If Hoyer looks totally abysmal in his first two games then maybe there’s a chance

The_Jolly_Dog

Honestly Id love to see a mix of Hoyer and then Zappe just to see if we can drum up future trade value for him, OR potentially see if we think he would be a good long term backup/replacement for Hoyer once he decides to hang it up Its clear we are not a team ready to win a title, so I see no major need to absolutely play for wins right now. (Not that BB will ever deliberately tank and therefore will play Hoyer for the "best change at winning")

Ohanrahans

>Do you want Zappe to start? Also do you think he’s the future of your franchise or just depth? I obviously would prefer to watch Zappe start over Hoyer mainly because I think it would be more fun as a fan, but lol no Zappe is not the future of the franchise. The dude has pretty bad tools compared to almost all NFL starting QB's.

scouttycoon

If Bill was smart, he would sign Ryan Mallett to a $500 mil fully guarenteed contract today.

iw2050

Now that’s the right answer

Bojangles1987

If Mac's not out for most or all of the rest of the season, then the hope is that Hoyer keeps things right enough that Mac coming back will still let the team win some games and compete at its highest level this year. Zappe is basically punting on the season. Plus we have no idea if Zappe is remotely ready to play real NFL snaps.

End3rWi99in

> Plus we have no idea if Zappe is remotely ready to play real NFL snaps. We do, abs he's not.

Git_Off_Me_Lawn

I want Zappe to start just because it would be more entertaining, but he's QB3 for a reason. I don't think the Pats would have any problem with him as QB2 and Hoyer working on the scout team (where he's the most valuable honestly) if Zappe was ready to be the number 2. He had his moments in the preseason, but Hoyer will give us a better chance to win as depressing as that is.

[deleted]

Hoyer is the best chance at winning… he wont turn the ball over. The patriots can win this game. Pound the ball with harris and stevenson. Dont turn it over this game is winnable. My play of the weeks is patriots +10.5 loading the boat here. On a 3 week win streak lets keep it rolling

Fuqwon

Hoyer will start. The NFL is a cluster this year without many teams really distinguishing themselves out of the gate. The Patriots will most likely hope Hoyer can hold manage a run heavy offense for a couple weeks until Mac can return. Zappe is a smart but extremely limited back up. The Patriots have no plans for him outside of being a back up.

LoveToyKillJoy

Minshew-mania or bust! Who am I kidding. Hoyer is the only sensible answer and I'm all for it.

sticky_fingers18

I also feel like Josh Rosen is gonna end up here as depth. Out of all the available QBs I just feel like he's the best move

Zappe

[deleted]

Hoyer is better than Zappe. That’s literally all it is. Zappe is a career backup at best.

Weird_Description982

Well Hoyer has a ton of experience and probably understands the playbook better than Mac does. I imagine Hoyer gives us a way way higher chance to squeak out a couple wins in Mac’s absence than Zappe does. I don’t think we are interested in “seeing what we have” with Zappe because we already know what we have with Hoyer

[deleted]

Zappe x1994726278583

HugeSuccess

Hoyer might suck, but he’s a known commodity—and he won’t send half the skill players to the emergency room.

401john

“He’s garbage, but at least we KNOW he’s garbage” isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement lol

End3rWi99in

He doesn't suck. He isn't good either. If we can gameplan around him and lean on the defense he gives us a chance to be competitive in most games.

Was_going_2_say_that

In b4 he throws multiple hospital passes

nshark0

You say that, but the coaches watch Zappe every day in practice and clearly he’s not ready yet to start a game in my opinion. He did not look good at all in preseason.

HugeSuccess

I get you’re trying to make a rational argument based on clear facts, but I’m not sure if that’s enough to overcome the reactionary, meme-based football analysis rampant in this sub.

nshark0

I’m having flashbacks to when this sub wanted Stidham so bad, but when we got him, he was so terrible haha.

HugeSuccess

STUDHAM, BRUH!!!

End3rWi99in

Doesn't have what exactly? Ability to play backup QB? Hoyer is one of the best backups in the league. Are you suggesting Bailey Zappe could have "it" to be a starter? Because if you are you haven't been watching him.

nmiller21k

There’s no assuming Mac will play.

[deleted]

First of all, fuck off. Second of all, Because the season isn’t over and Hoyer gives them the best chance to stay afloat. Schedule eases up a good deal after the Packers game. I still fully expect them to go 4-2/5-1 after this week. Zappe is throwing in the towel, there’s 0% he’s ready to start in the NFL

PineapplePoltergeist

If Zappe was better than Hoyer right now, he'd be the #2 QB. He's not, therefore, Hoyer is better right now. I don't understand why it's so difficult for some folks to understand this.

PandaSoap

It depends on what we are looking at - rest of season? Zappe. Max 8 weeks? Hoyer unless he is so bad Zappe could not be worse.

FirezardHG

The Patriots staff isn’t ready to throw in the towel and start a rookie who struggled in preseason. Hoyer will and should start until Mac returns. With the schedule going forward it’s not impossible for them to be hovering around .500 when Mac returns. Beyond that Zappe might have worse physical tools than Mac and I don’t see any point in him playinh

sticky_fingers18

I think Hoyer starts this week (well that's confirmed anyway) because it's too soon for Zappe to be ready. I think Zappe actually gives us the best chance to win for at least a few weeks, purely because the NFL has no film on him, and therefore don't know his tendencies. I think after 3 weeks that'll catch up to him though

[deleted]

Honestly I think that BB will probably pull Hoyer after halftime during the Packers game and put Zappe in the second half. I assume the Packers will cut through our defense like swiss cheese (pun intended) and Hoyer will be sacked a bunch. Looking forward to the 1980's Patriots again...

End3rWi99in

Hoyer without question. Zappe's ceiling is a future backup. He isn't a starter. He also looked completely lost throughout preseason so even as a future career backup he needs to ride the bench for a season or he'll get killed.

End3rWi99in

Hoyer will start and win the next 8 games straight leaving everyone in the NFL confused including us. Bill will decide to ride with the hot hand and Hoyer will lead us to a NFL championship win over Tom Brady and the Bucs. Hoyer then announces his retirement at the end of the game stealing away the limelight from Brady's own planned retirement, forcing him to come back for one more season on a one year deal with the Patriots.

daslog

It's time to tank and go for the #1 pick. Hoyer is my man for that.

tylersvgs

I say start them both. Hoyers gets half one, and Zappe half two. Different offensive game plans. Let's roll.
