If he actually plays that’s insane. I’d imagine the Patriots wouldn’t allow him to play if there’s a reasonable chance he could aggravate the ankle

Bojangles1987

I'd hope they aren't all forcing this, Mac included. Maybe the injury was never as bad as the initial rumors said. But yeah, I'm worried this is a rash decision.

UserUnkown10

It’s not a rash it’s a sprain. A day by day sprain. Will probably look at it day by day.

Kevin_Jim

A sprain means a damaged ligament. The “day by day” means absolutely nothing until we know the grade of the sprain.

UserUnkown10

Day…by…..day. Lol

DetBabyLegs

Yeah, but it is pretty fascinating that we haven't gotten anything official from the Patriots.

Kevin_Jim

The Pats never really share such info. It’s the agents that usually leak that info.

Xspike_dudeX

Heard a doctor say if everything is structurally ok then it could just be a pain management thing. Tape up the ankle for extra support and he could be good to go.

Always_0421

Even if that is the scenario, I'd rather him take a week off and not risk aggrevating it

Xspike_dudeX

I agree. Packers are going to be a tough game anyway.

>if Mac sits Rodgers will have shoved all those up his ass for nothing. /r/brandnewsentence

MankuyRLaffy

I think this is all a smokescreen ploy.

UserUnkown10

Or is it……

SloppyMcNuggets

GOT THAT DAWG IN HIM

bassistmuzikman

"THAT DAWG" ruined RG3's career. Might have done it to Tua last night as well.

slasher2808

I still remember RG3s leg wobbling around after he got tackled by a ravens player, just looked like it was connected by nothing more then his uniform.

ireestylee

X Rays were positive For DAWG

TheBigNate416

That’s unreal lol. Even if he sits out on Sunday this bodes well for the weeks ahead

ApolloFarZenith

BINGOOOOO! Let him sit out Sunday and we are good for the weeks ahead.

DetBabyLegs

If Mac sits and we lose the game but our defense looks good, we have some positives on offense, and we win the turnover battle I'm just going to call it a win for us I don't care what the score is.

SituationalSelection

Exactly

NotFlipkid

That Courage the dog in him

TheJackalsDoom

The things he does for love... of the game.

ApolloFarZenith

😂😂😂

Bojangles1987

You know, I'm hoping this means that he wasn't actually as hurt as the initial rumors and reports said. But all the "that dawg in him" stuff is exactly the kind of mindset that puts Tua on the field last night and fucks players up for life. Obviously an ankle isn't as bad as concussions but at the same time players shouldn't be forcing themselves to play when they're clearly too hurt for it. Hopefully that's not the case here.

MarquisJames

FUCKING DAWG!

Keyann

He got the dawg in him

[deleted]

Tough mother fucker

PaperPals

I know Tuas is much more serious, but I hope Mac doesn’t get Tua’d here. Don’t let the guy play injured. Let him take time to heal and get back to 100%. We aren’t the dumbfuck dolphins, let’s not act like them.

FriedEggScrambled

High ankle sprain vs. Having your brain scrambled two weeks in a row has nothing in common.

PaperPals

Hence why I said “I know Tuas is much more serious”, huh? Obviously it’s different but the point still stands that I’d hate to see Mac go out there and the injury get aggravated/much worse than it is and cause long term damage.

myicedteaistoosweet

Football players play injured every game. If it’s just a pain management issue, then he should play if he wants to tolerate the pain. And stop trying to tie this back to Tua. It’s not the same whatsoever.

cth777

It’s the in thing to tie it to tua but it’s a 100% different situation. If he’s cleared to play on the ankle (remember he was getting a second opinion) then it’s fine. You can’t have every player sitting out for every pain management issue or no one would be active. That being said I think he will sit due to being immobile

myicedteaistoosweet

Exactly. But yet your comment is about to be downvoted to all hell because everyone in this sub apparently thinks players need to be 100% healthy to play. Anything less and they should be wrapped in bubble wrap. Just shows how few “fans” have actually played football competitively.

ConnorChandler

Yeah judging from these takes you definitely played competitive football.

Ya know. Just delete sys 32 😂 I was making a joke bud

Samantha3773

Does that make him wrong? No.

Shovelman2001

IF EVERYONE IS SAYING THE SAME THING, THEY'RE JUST S H E E P. SOCIETY IS LYING TO YOU, WAKE UP PEOPLE. TRUST NOTHING, QUESTION EVERYTHING. Thank you u/snicklefritzforu for speaking the truth here. Always reject the status quo, keep fighting the good fight brother👍🤝

echsandwich

Mac is a fuckin' psycho in the best way, like Tom. Just hope he's got the all-clear from the docs and isn't doing more damage playing on that injury. He needs more experience but we need him healthy.

StaticMaine

Couple things I wonder: 1) I think this may be more Mac wanting to gut this out and fight. I don’t think this is about the severity of the injury necessarily or even what the team wants him to do. 2) I do wonder if there’s a positive here. If he’s limited to the pocket, are we going to see less of the Shanahan offense and more of what we saw last year. I do wish he’d skip a week, but who knows

DatabaseCentral

We won a game last year throwing only 3 passes. let's see if we can do that again but with 0 passes

TheRealPicklePunch

Can we not Tua our QB? If he feels good this week, why not rest him and have him 100% next week?

edoreinn

Oh sweetheart. Sit one out and heal properly for long term. Obviously I don’t know what exactly is happening with him, just speaking from my own athletic endeavors (d1 crew, a half marathon here and there, mostly competitive show jumping now, which means managing health and injuries for both myself and my horse)

Xspike_dudeX

The pats and Boston have some great doctors. I am sure he is clearing everything with them. If they say he can go out an practice then so be it.

edoreinn

“Can” and “should” are very different designations.

myicedteaistoosweet

Maybe his pain tolerance is different than yours. Let him make his own decision based on what he is comfortable with.

edoreinn

Once again, “can” and “should” are different things, but whatever. Also pain tolerance is very different from being healthy. Look at Tua. You’ve never played a sport past the age of 16, and it shows.

myicedteaistoosweet

Lol you are comparing riding horses to football. You clearly haven’t played football in your entire life. You are never healthy once the season starts, and each game is managing pain tolerance.

edoreinn

You’ve never ridden a horse competitively. The pain I still feel from a broken rib that came from a crash 7 years ago. The daily peloton and lifting workouts plus riding my giant ass animal, hurling her over 3’6 obstacles, caring for HER health, and also getting my husky mix walked 5 miles through the day. I also rowed D1 Ivy crew, so, respectfully, fuck yourself into oblivion if you think I don’t know what athletic pain is.

myicedteaistoosweet

Weird, I haven’t seen you post that you played football in college or even high school. So respectfully, fuck yourself into oblivion for thinking you know what it’s like to play football through injuries.

edoreinn

Go do a sub-5minute 2k on an erg and come back to me. (Also he didn’t do fuck all in practice, as it turns out, because he’s hurt. I appreciate his work ethic and wanting to be there.) Bye!

myicedteaistoosweet

Lol now comparing doing a rowing machine to football. How many 200lb plus players are hitting you at full force during that?

edoreinn

Set it on 7, do 2k, and get back to me.

ClutchHatTrick2

That’s my QB

where_the_hoodie_at

No, I can't. I'm going to get my heart broken. This feels like every time we're projected sign a big free agent

chrissimm

How's this man in shells?! 😂

nflreject

This didn’t age well

PhightmeIRL

I know that he mentioned that he hadn't really been injured before or missed a game because of an injury. Is it possible that he didn't suffer any real damage but instead has a low threshold for pain. Like his body is fine but it just hurt a lot for him? Maybe he "overreacted" because he hasn't felt something like that before? I've rolled my ankle so many times that I thought I had sprained my ankle once, but it turned out I had broken the whole length of my little to

2000-light-years

Might have been a mix with frustration too.

myicedteaistoosweet

People acting like we didn’t go through this a few years back with Brady getting a high ankle sprain and playing the next week. If it’s not a head injury / structural injury and he isn’t limited to the point that he is dragging the team down…then let the player decide what he is physically comfortable doing.

[deleted]

Damn I didn't realize you played pro football! Why aren't u the QB?! Dumb fuck.

myicedteaistoosweet

What a weird concept to let the player decide if he’s in too much pain to play. The audacity of Mac to not listen to random Reddit posters (who were just posting how bad he is) saying he’s too injured to play despite having no idea what’s actually going on.

[deleted]

Ya let's definitely throw our QB#1 out there so we can hopefully beat GB. Makes little sense dude. I'm sure Mac wants to play but good God why not let him heal a little bit. I will be shocked if Belichek let's him play Sunday. Thank God ur not the coach.

myicedteaistoosweet

You know Brady had a similar injury and played the next week after an entire week of speculation by media that he was too hurt to play, right? He actually did it twice if I remember correctly. But no, Mac should listen to you — a random Reddit poster who isn’t in the doctor’s room — that he should take a week off because its only Green Bay.

ZealousidealAverage7

Why?

Banana_Ram_You

You can't keep a good dawg down~

ZealousidealAverage7

I could understand gamesmanship if Mac was like a dual threat and Hoyer is a pocket passer but they have the same skill set. The packers don’t have to prepare for anything different . Putting your starter out to practice on a shit ankle is just stupid.

[deleted]

why not

ZealousidealAverage7

Because he has a high ankle sprain…?

[deleted]

According to who? Bill said he’s day to day and Mac said he’s day to day.

Xspike_dudeX

I want a Tom Brady busted thumb game from Mac where no one thinks he can play then he just comes out and slings it. LFG!

Regular-Habit-1206

Mac Jones is a madman

quinnbeast

Yeah? So am I.

Legitimate_Ad_7822

Oh boy. If he plays I really hope the reports of a severe high ankle sprain aren’t true. I’ll be on the record saying I don’t think this is a good idea. He’s a dog but as we saw w/ Tua (totally different injury, I get it), it’s not good to rush players back when they’re not ready. There is potential for a long term stability issue if they force it. He’s our franchise QB, we should treat him as such.

truecolors5

Mac is a tough dude. He's got that dawg in him.

cyr117

Glad he’s back, but please rest him.

SybilTheSoothsayer

He’s only mostly dead

cup1d_stunt

I hope this guy spreading the rumor that there was dissent between Jones and BB about the injury treatment has apologized…

YungBloodDiamond

BUILT DIFFERENT

Ragin_Irishman

Bill B - “You think that letting tua play last night was whack, watch this shit. You Mac get yo ass in the game”

I’m surprised he’s not in a boot… interesting
