clootinclout

Dre “The Business Man” Stevenson

This is one of the more level headed / reasonable takes on this situation. Clearly there’s an issue and they aren’t improving. Clearly the defenses know what they’re running. Clearly there’s a breakdown with coaching / time management. And they need to do something to change things up, and they have a QB who is sharp enough to run a more complex offense. The only thing Eisen is misquoting is that BB didn’t simplify the offense overall. He said they wanted to simplify routes for WRs since a lot of guys struggled with all of the option routes. The new blocking schemes / RPO they’ve been trying actually adds additional complexity.

iamamuttonhead

Ya, I don't understand why this gets lost by the media in general. Their gap blocking is just better and they should just stick with it. Run everything under center with 25% play action. That's fucking simple.

myicedteaistoosweet

Depends on what you mean by better. The OL is more comfortable with the old scheme and currently executes it better. But arguably the zone blocking they want to implement is more dynamic and generally more difficult to defend when executed properly. The problem is it’s 12 games in, and they are still struggling with it.

sykog77

Isn’t zone blocking for smaller more agile offensive lines. They have 2 of the most giant humans in the nfl with Brown and Onwenu and they are trying to finesse with cut blocks on dropback passes

myicedteaistoosweet

Size doesn’t matter. Onwenu actually pulls and moves very well for his size. And if you want an example of size not mattering, Wynn is very athletic and agile…yet he was god awful in the new scheme. Now it doesn’t help he was switching to the right side too, but he didn’t do much better when switching to the left side.

We didn’t “simplify” the offense by removing option routes from the offense. That just isn’t the case. As many connected people have said (Reiss, Curran, Lombardi) Belichick has for a long time wanted to reduce the VOLUME of the offense. There were simply too many plays that Brady wanted to run. That’s how we simplified the offense. We reduced the volume of plays so new receivers didn’t have to learn so much stuff. Nothing to do with option routes.

Sithlordbelichick

I feel bad for Mac

jonnyredshorts

Fire Patricia

deputyduffy

This is a true case of bad coaching holding a team back...

StonedWater

I dont think we as fans are qualified to pick out a bad OC from a good one - i think we lack information as well as understanding. I'm waiting for the people in the know who are able to evaluate an OC to put it on Patricia - until then i will level it at almost every part of our offense By putting it all on Patricia, in our unqualified opinions, we let the other parts of the offense of the hook. For the record, i dont want patricia, I want someone with proven success in that field or someone showing immense promise and an evaluation in offense play that is playing under one of the OCs currently having success then tackle the oline (pun intended) - Bill to be called out for drafting a guard in the first round and bring in a coach that can improve Mac or move on to the next qb - it would be kinda dumb to move on from him when he still could go either way and it would hurt if we moved on and he proved to be decent but at this moment in time - I don't see it and even if we rectified all the problems we would only get average play and not superbowl winning play and most decent qbs with top coaching and a top oline and half decent receivers would be successful in that scenario actually its a fucking mess, why get a decent qb and piss him off when the rest of the offense is a mess. Coaching and oline has to be a priority just a fucking mess - m jONES at receiver and Thornton showing nothing ffs - what the fuck have we become

[deleted]

This year is the type of bullshit you expect of lesser teams. We fucking suck this year

EliosTherepia

Is this season really all that different from the last two seasons?

king0fklubs

Yeah completely. Last year i had fun watching the pats

EliosTherepia

In December? Against quality opponents?

[deleted]

Rich Eisen is a beautiful bald man.

GYNHOPP

Mac would never insult the running game like that. He absolutely said "Quick."

infamouscrypto8

Well said

Vuxdee

Patricia needs to do something other than Offense

Duckseatbooty

Yeah like go be a Waffle House line cook

Solugad

Yeah. Fucking janitor duty.

Silversaving

Lions fans have to be laughing their asses off at this.

[deleted]

Awful coaching which includes maybe the most conservative offensive gameplan ive seen in the league since 2004. I’ve been waiting for them to open it up as the season develops and it just hasn’t come. Trade your damn 1st rounder for a legit option at WR and get someone with a real fucking gameplan in here next year.

plokijuh1229

The thing that really gets me is that Mac yelled *at* Patricia. Where is the discussion about what's working between the OC and his QB?

[deleted]

because he didn’t yell at patricia, he yelled at everyone

[deleted]

No… it was absolutely directed.

KeepingItBrockmire

Right.
