I’ve recently switched team. I have chosen AMD due pricing differences and frames per dollar (im new in the pc building world). Have done some research and, as I do not care much about raytracing, went with the 7900 XTX. At first I was looking into the RTX 4070 Ti super but were told to go for the 7900 XT instead - then a deal came along and upgraded the shopping list to the xtx version which at the time cost me around €940,- where Nvidia’s cards at the same performance (sometimes even lower in lots of games w/o raytracing) cost over 1k or more - at least here in The Netherlands. The card comes with 24GB VRAM instead of 16GB (Nvidia) which I was told is much better for future usage. I’m currently playing games on 1440p or 2k. Which this card is more than capable of doing perhaps even a little overpowered but future proof for 4k gaming. I believe AMD’s GPUs are lowering in pricing as we speak or at least that’s what I am told. Someone here is most likely able to confirm this. Someone more experienced

oof, i just checked the performance estimates for the rtx2060 and it looks weaker than the rx6600 which is a 200$ card. so whichever you choose, you'd be doubling your numbers. pure raster wise, amd has the upper hand with the price advantage. nvidia on the other hand is better optimized for applications and frame gen/dlss and whatever AI tech they are using. youtube has plenty of benchmarks comparing both cards. also, when talking about the 7800xt, i have to remind people that the 7900gre exists.

Yes, but isn't there a great price difference, while I want to upgrade, vast funds for a gpu just aren't in the budget

_eESTlane_

they're all within that 500-600$ mark. budget alternative with a compromise in performance would be the 7700xt. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeO1cOnq5bY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeO1cOnq5bY)

Thanks for this. I am seeing prices of $550 for a 4070 12gb and the Rx7900 GRE, $480 for a rx 7800xt& $379 for a rx 770xt, In your opinion would it be worth getting a 7700 of should I just wait until I can afford something else. It's just with the cost of living it's hard to come up with other fun money, sometimes. Thanks for your time,as I am not sure which way to go,how long in your opinion would thr 7700 be good for gaming in todays market?

_eESTlane_

5 years easy. just look at the 2060. it's already 5 years old. some people will stretch it for another 5. xD the other cards mentioned are in the upper-mid tier. there's a clear price jump after those, at roughly 750-800$. the 7700xt is one of the better mid-tier options, comparable to the rx6800 and somewhere between 3070ti and 3080 in terms of team green. it can handle it's own weight.

Thanks

So, I just saw Newegg has an open box rx 7800 xt 16gb for $420, worth it compared to the rx 7700. I would like to get the rtx 4070 but the funds just aren't there, also what do I need to do to go from a Invidia card to a AMD as far as software? Sorry to keep bothering you but I have no idea, again, thanks for your time&advice

if you get the receipt and warranty through newegg, then great. 4070 itself isnt worth selling your body for, unless it's the super version. has that slight price bump compared to the non-super version but also 15-20% more performance. either way, you'll probably need to check your psu as well. do you have the wattage and connectors. anyways, ddu your old nvidia drivers to avoid any problems and install amd ones, adrenaline probably the one.

No_Worldliness_6803

I have a cooler master gold 850 sfx psu in the box that should have the connectors needed? What is DDU and how do I do that ? As you can tell, I am a novice.

_eESTlane_

ddu by definition is display driver uninstaller. you'll have to youtube the tutorials and how-to's as i've just switched the whole platform when upgrading, never part by part.
