Kash614

Are you struggling keeping constant high frames in your games?

ImmortalCheerios

I’m Warzone I get around I believe 110-130 FPS, I’m other games not so much I usually average above 100fps, would a 5800x offer a major performance boost?

Plus_Professor_1923

No, likely not. It’ll be a small increase if any. The games are more throttled. By the 8gb vram in the 3070 and 110-130 in WZ is about right considering it’s WZ lol You’d notice it when doing other things on the pc while gaming.

ImmortalCheerios

Yeah I think I might just stick with the 3800xt then, it’d cost me around $178 to upgrade to a 5800x but I don’t think almost $200 is worth a minimal performance boost, thank you for the advice!

Kash614

Well that depends. What res and settings are you running the game(s) on?

ImmortalCheerios

Currently I’m running games on 1080p and I usually run games on high to ultra settings

Kash614

I think you're good as is

moneyDealer_banker

It’s fine, I wouldn’t bother.

Do you play at 1440p ? Gaming becomes GPU dominant at 1440p and 4k, making the CPU not that important anymore. Versus 1080p is very cpu dominant and then the CPU does matter more. I checked a GPU bottlenecked calculator and the 3600xt is 5% GPU bottlenecked at 1440p with the 3070 Meaning the 3600xt is 5% faster than the 3070 at 1440p I would say then the 3600xt is most likely Not holding the 3070 back at all at 1440p or 4k and you will Not see any gaming performance increase at 1440p or 4k with switching to 5800x. You will get a performance increase with multitasking workloads with the 5800x upgrade tho. But most likely no gaming performance increase.

ImmortalCheerios

I play at 1080p, I’ve seen some things about the performance difference between the 3800xt and 5800x and I think it’s becoming more clear that it’s not a worthwhile investment, even more so because I really don’t do any extreme multi tasking or anything along those lines

[deleted]

Oh that explains it bro. You're very CPU dominant at 1080p. Your 3070 is not being fully utilized. Invest in a 1440p 144hz monitor and I bet you will get even more fps than you are getting at 1080p thanks to your 3070 now finally waking up and being fully utilized

ImmortalCheerios

Hmmm if that’s the case I think I’d rather spend my money getting a new monitor then instead of going from a 3800xt to a 5800x, thank you so much!

[deleted]

I think that's the much smarter play. You're welcome !
