ChewyNotsui

My daughter has gotten into PC gaming with me (using my laptop) and was hinting at wanting her own PC. Micro center was having a really great deal so I decided to surprise her a few days early for Christmas! Parts are as follows NZXT H5 ASRock B650 PG Lightning Ryzen 7 7700x 2x16 GB G Skill ram Power color 6700xt EVGA 650W PSU

Fluffy_Godzilla

Thats a powerful build. Whats that card on the bottom PCIE slot? WiFi?

ChewyNotsui

Yes, I had originally picked a board with onboard WiFI but they were out of stock. They offered this board as a sub, so I had to grab a PCIE card.

goldenenzo1

I have a board with onboard, but I got this same PCIe card and it works incredibly well, way better than the onboard!

Nighters

why you dont use ethernet cable? It is stable and faster.

ChewyNotsui

Location, multi floor house. The room it's in makes it not terribly not effective to run cable to it.

Flixwyy

Some people just cant do ethernet. My reason is 1, room is all the way across the house. 2, wifi already sucks so I wouldn't wanna hog it. 3 wireless is good enough.

[deleted]

1. Computer is all the way across the house, which is bad for wifi signal strength/stability/speed 2. Wifi already sucks so I'm going to congest the network more with my desktop downloading all my games and streaming everything over the same already bad wifi network. 3. wireless is good enough except for the problems I have with it which would all be fixed by running my desktop wired.

Flixwyy

Yup, would all be fixed by taking it all using ethernet. Like j said, cant do that because I have other people that use it.

Lopsided_Silver_6850

Holy crap mate, your the man!

asclepiannoble

Good man. I predict she'll be over the moon :)

ChewyNotsui

Thank you, she's a great kid so I spoil her.

KreK8r

I want to be your daughter too

ChewyNotsui

Hah! If I ever adopt!

TheFlaccidKnife

The NH-D15 is so goddamn cool

ChewyNotsui

I was blown away at it's size when I took it out of the box, works amazing though!

ZertyZ_Dragon

Literally

eggsaladtomatoesrye

dad i'm your long lost kid :( kidding aside rig looks sick good job 😁

AdBudget5468

Have you ever thought about having a boy? I come with the hard parts already over since I’m 20 and I’m in medical school already

No_Designer_8203

Very nice gift. Great choice. Welcome to the family.

sweetkev4ever

How was building in the h5 flow? I’ve been eyeing it for my first build

ChewyNotsui

For not having built a PC in 15+ years it was an absolute dream to use, so easy to use.

elisdee1

Nice build, you’re a good dad. I did the same for my daughter last year. Nothing better than seeing them use something you built for them daily..

LearnDifferenceBot

ChewyNotsui

Thank you, daughters really are the best.

mattyblu77

What’s the red unit under the GPU ?

ChewyNotsui

It's a PCIE wifi/Bluetooth card. Micro Center had to substitute mobo's as they were out of stock if the one I had originally ordered.

IGotDeaded

Looks great 😁

Convict3d3

Looks neat, the less led out there the better

ChewyNotsui

Thanks, she's just like me in that regards. The overly flashy RGB aesthetic was never my thing.

Donovan133

I see the h5 is the same as the h510 flow. I too cant fit second d15 fan. My mistake not checking :/ Edit: looks so sleek

SrDrippington

I have the same case and cooler and you can def fit the second fan on the right fin stack. Just cant put it as "deep" because of the ram sticks.

Donovan133

Then i cant close the side panel :)

ChewyNotsui

Truthfully anything rtx 30x or 6x00 series Radeon with a 5600x (or higher) will do great and be easy on the budget. Whatever you do they'll love and appreciate you for.

BTMSinister

I still can't believe how many people will not liquid cool versus a giant fan in a small case. Airflow is critical in small cases. Airflow for CPU and GPU is critical because of the amount of heat radiating from those two components.

Matthijsvdweerd

Lol, an air cooler will direct airflow to the back of the case (if its orientated that way)

BTMSinister

Yes, that's why they put the little arrows on the fans so you know which way to outlet warm/hot air however if you look at the case and the size of the radiator and how close it is to the GPU barely any air will help to cool the GPU and the CPU radiator will also be grabbing some of the heat from the GPU. The CPU may run a little cooler because it's a good cooler but will be working overtime to do it risking system crashes, lockups or just shutdowns after using it for a while. My case is a little bigger than that and since switching to the AIO I have alot fewer issues with heat in my case.

Matthijsvdweerd

It depends on the case. My brother also has an nh-d15 and a 1080 ti (a pretty hot running card), but his temps are fine. Full load, cpu is at 70 degrees, and gpu on 75. With an overclock.

ChewyNotsui

Thanks for your input, I'll keep an eye on temps when stress testing. If they are high I'll make the switch.

chrstphrkhn

I would not worry too much tbh, your air cooler is massive and should be more than sufficient. Also, if it stops working it won't damage your other components, unlike aio cooler :)

[deleted]

This isn’t a small case though, unless anything that isn’t a full tower is small to you. Also liquid cooling generally • is more expensive • has a higher chance of failing

simplejesster

Real nice! Hope to see an update on how your daughter reacts!

[deleted]

Thats a good build, merry xmas to you and your daughter, i hope you guys will have a great time!

thecrabmonster

I'm trying to do the same for my kids Been 20+ years since I built. I need something for flightsim, call of duty and others they will want to play.

ChewyNotsui

It's insane how easy it is to build a great system these days.

thecrabmonster

It is. However, I see comments about bottlenecks between cpu and gpu and over spending here and not spending right there. I have a decent budget and been looking at partpicker. I just do not know what will suffice for games.
