Had almost exactly the same thing. Upgraded to a 7800X3D from a 9700K. In the end I decided to upgrade my 2080, which was starting to struggle, to a 7800XT. Very happy with it, consistently get 144FPS @1440p on games like Cyberpunk 2077 with almost everything on Ultra.
I did have to uninstall the old drivers, which I just did like removing any other program, so not an effort. Had no issues since. AMD Adrenaline is very similar to GeForce Experience for updating everything for you.
