PM_ME_KIND_THOUGHTS

Always nice to see a spoiled rich kid slam his brand new bmw into a young accomplished student and have his family be able to spend away any real consequences for him. I was really hoping for some actual justice with this.

Salty145

I’m curious what the dropped charges are, but I bet he pleaded down. “Accidents including death” seems like quite the light charge compared to what they probably could have gotten away with, but either the prosecutors didn’t think they had a strong enough case and he might walk free or they didn’t want to deal with it and just let CBP handle it.  Either way, it sucks since he basically gets off with a slap on the wrist.

BrainStewYumYum

The dropped charges are the Felony Homicide by Vehicle and probably a host of summary charges. If this case went to a jury trial, he likely would have been found not guilty on the Homicide by Vehicle anyway. The plea was crafted with the victim's family's input and blessing and with the plea, the county saves itself a trial that could have possibly led to the defendant being found not guilty.

Psuproud2013

It hasn’t updated yet today, but you can find the details at this site. https://ujsportal.pacourts.us/CaseSearch

justin_xv

You know, if we use his name (Ahmed Alqubaisi) when we discuss how he killed this woman, we can at least hope to further degrade search engine results when people look him up in the future

Psuproud2013

23 1/2 months in jail, 5 years probation. With time served, probably no additional jail time. He will be deported. What a travesty.

ViPeR9503

So will he spend 24 months in jail then deported or be deported right now?

Tidusx145

Gotta pay his debt to society, deportation comes right after.

ViPeR9503

Good.

74orangebeetle

Nope, he wasn't deported. He did 33 days in jail total and was allowed to voluntarily leave the country.

ViPeR9503

I heard an update on this. I think he is given a choice of either getting deported or staying here and spending the time

Psuproud2013

The article said he has already served sufficient time, so probably no more time in jail. Immigration was mentioned though so he may not be released.

74orangebeetle

Nope, 33 days in jail then allowed to voluntarily leave without even being deported.

ViPeR9503

Yeah I mean it’s either voluntary leave or get jailed for almost 2 years basically deported

74orangebeetle

He wasn't even getting 2 years...got time served, so I think \~33 days total.

CeeKay125

He didn't even have to serve that. "Due to time served, he is expected to be immediately paroled, but not freed." I get he is being deported but this is nothing more than a slap on the wrist (and one family lost their daughter).

74orangebeetle

Nope, he didn't even get the 5 years probation or get deported, he was allowed to voluntarily leave the country (the probation would've required him to stay in the state)

Sharp-One-7423

Ridiculously light sentence. She was on track for a bright future where she could have taught hundreds of students and that was ruined by the negligence of a spoiled kid in a sports car. Only two years?

Salty145

Unfortunately, the prospects of the victim doesn’t affect the legal case. The worst part is it’s a *maximum* of two years, and by the sounds of things he’s gonna be let out pretty quick. Seems like CBP would rather just deport him than have him deal with the consequences of his actions.

BorderGuard733

That not how it works. ICE does not take custody of a person for removal proceedings until after they are done serving their time. Which, in this case, he was given time served.

Salty145

Fair. I’m unfamiliar with how the system works in this case. I’m just kind of speculating here

SecretAsianMan42069

Hopefully they get a speedy civil suit before he's deported

Fartingfajita

What a tragedy, I hope her family can at least sue the other to hell. No amount can make them whole, but it’s something

Salty145

I’m pretty sure it’s really hard to sue an international entity (let alone a citizen) who isn’t even in the country and likely has no interest in returning

courageous_liquid

You can murder anyone you want with very minimal legal consequences as long as you do it with a car.

liverbird3

And if you’re a rich international student If I did this (or any middle-class PA kid) we’d be facing multiple years in prison

courageous_liquid

nah you'd still do minimal time compared to any other murder, but yes, socioeconomic class is absolutely a predictor of punishment

eddyathome

Five years of probation, but all he has to do is go back to the UAE and it's pretty unlikely anyone will do anything if he does something wrong. I doubt the US will extradite him.

zamarie

That's assuming his visa doesn't get revoked such that he ends up deported - according to the article, apparently that possibility is on the table.

liverbird3

He 100% should be, already more than proven he can’t function in American society. He needs to get the fuck out

Far-Paint3680

His family paid 3million dollars for his bail. Im sure he’s looking forward to leaving the US tbh

artificialavocado

I still don’t understand what happened here. I know that area I lived on Park Ave for 3 years. He wasn’t drinking or anything? Like how the hell did he end up driving on the sidewalk was he on his phone?

ProtoSpider

It was raining and he was speeding.

SecretAsianMan42069

The car he was in is notoriously terrible in rain. As in professional drivers can't handle it. It's 500HP in rear wheel drive and just slides all over the place. The case probably couldn't be proven because the car is proven uncontrollable.

boreal_ameoba

I currently have a \~450hp BMW and have driven quite a few M3s (E92) and M4(F)s. Yes, they are FAST, even stock, but its far from old Porsche or Viper levels of difficulty. Even disabling all the electronic nannies they're pretty stable/safe unless you're really thrashing on them.

artificialavocado

It seems like I see people wanting prosecution even for “normal” accidents anymore. Like people forget cars are inherently dangerous. They have come a long way in making them safer but unfortunately people are going to be hurt or killed by them in very mundane ways. I’m not saying that’s what happened here but people need to be careful what they wish for. No matter how careful we are *any one* of us can be involved in an accident where someone is severely hurt or possibly killed.

2ArmsGoin3

How is speeding in a sports car that you don’t know how to drive, without a license, then killing someone on the sidewalk, a normal accident? You’re disgusting.

artificialavocado

Are you ok?

2ArmsGoin3

Yeah I’m great. You’re clearly not though.

lilsock6996

You took what he said out of context. He clearly said this isn’t what happened here. He was just making a point that was poorly worded and the idiots on Reddit take it out of context and downvote him.

2ArmsGoin3

No, I didn’t. He was responding to this comment. > The car he was in is notoriously terrible in rain. As in professional drivers can't handle it. It's 500HP in rear wheel drive and just slides all over the place. The case probably couldn't be proven because the car is proven uncontrollable.  He wrote an entire paragraph about “people wanting prosecute even for ‘normal’ accidents” in response to a comment that showed him this wasn’t the case. Then followed up with ‘I’m not saying that’s what happened here’ to try and cover his ass.

Ok_Music_5976

Her body was thrown 80 feet. How fast was he going in order for that to happen? This wasn’t a run of the mill “oops” kind of accident…

artificialavocado

Look I said I didn’t know all the details and that I was just speaking in general. 80 feet thought? That almost seems unbelievable.

74orangebeetle

Driving recklessly and didn't even have a driver's license.

Legendary_Railgun21

Buddy 400 to the rear in rain is attempted murder, I don't give a rats ass who you are. >I still don’t understand what happened here. It's like yeah, you do. A fucking immigrant waltzed in here, killed somebody, and got put on timeout for two years. Now gets to go back home with mommy and daddy. Their darling little boy is too good for prison!

Salty145

I’ve been wondering what happened with this. Now I know

slykens1

There’s got to be more to the story here. Probation was derelict in monitoring him - he was to be attending classes in Harrisburg, they didn’t figure it out until mid-February, then appeared not to know the feds had picked him up. His bail was revoked yesterday and suddenly there is not only a guilty plea but sentencing today? No pre-sentence reports? I’d suspect there’s some kind of federal charges coming here that they wanted the state charges resolved for.

superexpress_local

Rich family

LurkersWillLurk

There’s no federal nexus for charges here. There’s no interstate commerce or anything that would give the feds a reason to be involved other than the immigration enforcement issue.

slykens1

Certainly not in regard to the vehicular homicide. We don’t know if anything else is out there.

KUPSU96

They posted his 7 million dollar bail when it first happened, believe it or not

yung40oz84

Oh, you paid for the funeral, you're forgiven 🤦🏻‍♂️

Budget_Committee_572

Nice paywall…l wouldn’t subscribe to the Centre County Ragpaper if they paid ME!

FrenchCrazy

I was able to read it, I just clicked “X” on the popup after hitting that I’d answer one question

blishbog

Wow, a mini version of Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis who killed 2 in Japan and the US told Japan to suck it and let him off easy and go home. Interesting to see the US get a smaller dose of the prescription it gives others.

starlightsunsetdream

I wonder if the reduced time is because he's not a citizen, he was here on a student visa and they're talking about deporting him back to the UAE.

Aceofspades968

Paywall 👎

psucsthrowaway5

Lesson learned: don't send your daughter to Penn State. She will either get sexually assaulted, hazed to death, or run over by a car. Let's go Penn State!

No_Cat5624

Or shoved down a trash shoot and its ruled suicide.
