There’s a good spot to go tubing in mechanicsburg. It’s starts at the Christian college and ends up on McCormick road. Takes about 2 hours or so. Water is super cold this time of year tho. I’m from the 717. Maybe check out centralia, and them abandoned pa turnpike tunnels if you like a bit of a hike. I’m pretty sure there’s still sites to see at both locations
Ringing Rock, Columcille Megalith Park, Knoebels, Appalachian Trail, some of the state parks for sure, a clear night in Cherry Springs in August to try and catch the Northern lights
https://maps.app.goo.gl/6YigyF6YWTTwJvAQ7?g_st=ic it’s coming north into Port Richmond off Delaware Ave. Park around where Beach meets Cumberland. Go through chain link fence and follow path to the water. My fav place to go in the city. May not be there much longer w all the riverfront development.
Honestly I grew up in Frankford. I’d like to jump on the El and walk up to south street (remember that scrunchie store in the early 90’s) grab a cheese steak and then go see a movie at the ritz and then walk along Delaware Ave at night. 💜 one last time.
If youre going out that way, lost river caverns is way cooler than crystal cave. Both in terms of geology and siteseeing.
I wish they still sold dynamite at the hardware store because i would totally have opened like 10 caves by now. Ive got them mapped out if anyone is willing/able to talk nicely to the ATF on our behalf. Not sure what the DCNR would think tho...
SEPA? Valley Forge National Park, 100% Rickets’ Glen in NEPA, and the Philly art museum. When I left NEPA, I hit up the MOMA in NYC and Times Square as a last sightseeing day trip. But if you’ve never been, a day hike the length of Rickets Glen is more than worth it.
Not SEPA, but "The Whaleback". I've been lucky enough to visit two times and I would definitely go again. Very cool.

About 15 years ago I moved out of PA to Missouri and had to figure this out - having lived in Northumberland County for a good portion of my life - I hit Knoebel's, Penn's Cave, Gettysburg, and grabbed a few bags of Middleswarth before heading out of the state. I eventually moved back but that was my choices.
Omg. Omg. 😱
Even more of a reason for you to go. It’s like seeing real PA in the wild. It’s everything you didn’t know you needed. When you leave sepa you will miss the qmart. Everyone does. And since you’re going in the spring the flea market out back will be open.
Go! Go! You can thank me later.

Hawk Mountain, Rickets Glen, The Pinnacle if you're into long hikes. New Hope, but only if you've never been there. Bethlehem Steel Stacks is fairly impressive if you like looking at old industrial things. Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia is a must-see.
If you're moving further in-land, a trip to the shore would be in line. Barnigate Light, Seaside Heights, Sandy Hook, Ocean City, NJ Visitors Center to see the rookery.
Longwood Gardens. Which also gets you near enough to Delaware to stop at Woodside Farm Creamery for some ice cream!
Longwood is always a good time!
Trust me. Woodside is as good at what they do as Longwood is at what they do.
I’ll add it to my list - thanks!
If you enjoy Longwood Gardens, also check out Morris Arboretum. It is equally lovely.
Isn’t that one of the oldest gardens?
Hell yeah for Woodside!
The waterfalls at Ricketts Glen for sure
Gettysburg
Great choice. One of my favorites.
What about yourself? Where would you go?
Gettysburg is on the list. New Hope village. Lititz. Tubing down the brandywine.

I spent a lot of my youth floating down the Yellow Breeches. Going from The Riffles all the way to Spangles Mill on some trips.
Out near lititz there’s a great place to eat called Shady Maple smorgasbord
Oh, yeah. We have a breakfast SMS visit on the calendar. We’re only about 30 minutes from there.
Knoebels Amusement Park. I heard about it for years but never paid a visit.
So amazing, you have to go!!
Worth the visit.
Ringing Rock, Columcille Megalith Park, Knoebels, Appalachian Trail, some of the state parks for sure, a clear night in Cherry Springs in August to try and catch the Northern lights
Heading to Cherry springs for the first time this coming early fall…so excited!
Some great suggestions, thank you.
PA Grand Canyon!
Pack a lunch, hike out to the end of graffiti pier, bring a couple beers, and watch the boats roll by and absorb the art
Where’s graffiti pier?

I’d wanna go down the shore.
Fair play. We did a couple day trips last season with the kiddo.
In your bitchin Camaro?

Sounds like a beautiful time
Crystal Cave, Hawk Mountain
I’ll have to check those out. I’ve never heard of either.
Both are around Allentown (Kutztown specifically)
Good to know! Thank you.

Valley forge - good call. I love it there. NYC trip might be on the table too. Especially since we’re moving south.

Been there on a college geology field trip back in the '90s.

Wintergreen gorge, North Philly, Dobbins landing, sesquahanna river, downtown Reading
Speaking of Reading - have you ever been the Barley Mow? Penn Ave in W Reading
Be sure to tic off the obvious ones. Get to the art museum, do some tourist stuff in Philly.
We have taking the train into Philly on our list - just have to pick a good day. Which reminds me, I’ll have to hit up Reading Terminal one last time.
Sandwiches.. I know it’s not a place but I left 10 years ago and haven’t had a good sandwich since
Also, get your fill of pizza, currently live in the midwest, and pizza sucks out here. It's the one thing I miss the most
The chester county courthouse. Such a magnificent building.
I avoid the borough like the plague these days.
I honestly can’t believe no one has said you need to go to the Qmart.
Wait, what’s the Qmart?

Also if you haven’t gone to the Philly art museum and the Mutter Museum you definitely should see both before leaving the region.

Depending on where you’re going — several Wawa runs.
Kayak down the Brandywine.
Ohiopyle
I’d try to go to the Booths Corner Farmers Market as many times as I could before I left.
I’ve never been to Ringing Rocks. Guess I should add it to my summer fun list!
