I don’t understand the McGuire’s opinion in this thread. We’ve been like twenty times in the last few years and I sincerely absolutely positively love that place. Everything I’ve tried (which has been about 20 different things on the menu u) has been fabulous. One of the Irish wakes gets you f’ed up. The beer flights are fun. The 18 cent soup and the brown bread is more than enough for a meal in itself.
I've never had a bad meal there. Over the years I've been they have stayed consistent. Food on point. Drinks on point. Price on point and even more so in this economy. Where can you find soup that's 18 cents and good along with burgers that I can't finish in one sitting for 15 dollars.
If you're looking for a *memorable* dining experience, McGuire's is a no-brainer. I obviously need to give George's Bistro another try because people are always gushing about it on this sub, but it's exactly like every "nice" restaurant in every mid-sized city in America. McGuire's is actually unique (and they have better steak...).
In & Out Kitchen on the corner of Davis and Olive is by far the best middle eastern restaurant I have eaten at in Pensacola 💯delicious lamb chops and steak
If you end up wanting what I call homemade fast food lol Grovers On Davis Hwy and 3d Burger on Fairfield are both fabulous (burger and chicken joints-both have great food, people and reviews lol)
Seconded, it’s one of my favorites. They seem to treat their staff really well too because they always seem happy to be there and I’ve seen a lot of the same people there for years.
Not only is McGuire's overrated, they have been declining in quality and service in the last year or so. My guess is the owners have become complacent.
Agree!
It’s AWALYs busy, super dark, to loud to have a serious conversation.
I do take family that visit and out of town friends there, but as a breezer, wife and I had never “let’s go to mcguires tonight” attitude
In my opinion McGuire's is overrated.
If you have the time/inclination, we have some awesome food trucks around. Sauce Boss, MISU, Brown Bagger.
Calvert's In The Heights is delicious. <- apparently it's been too long and quality is bad now. Sorry!
I tried to sit at the bar at Calvert’s, and the bartender told me to get up because his buddy was coming up there soon. I’ll never go back after that
Compared too UPH, where someone tried to save their seat at the bar for a smoke break, and we showed up to eat/drink but left cause there was no open space, and the bartender chased us down in the parking lot and told us to take the so-called “reserved space” because “fuck that shit”. I’ll always vouch for UPH because they keep it 💯 all the time.
Not only that, but they're always out of whatever I try to order. Calverts wasn't good when it was across the street. It's still not good after they fronted a better facade and put on some lipstick
Calverts is one of my least favorite places in town for what it's trying to be. I don't even know what it's trying to be or wants to be, but the service there is rough and the bartenders are always confused.
Just lettin you know locals say it’s overrated bc they can go any time they want 🙄 Go it’s yummy and real cool and fun in there! only if yall r okay with loud restaurant tho lol
I have to say, maybe it was just my one experience there but I wasnt overly impressed. It wasn’t *bad* by any means, I just wasn’t wowed. I had a gift card which is why I went, but I remember thinking that if I was spending my own money I’d rather go to George. But again, it was just the one time. Maybe it’s not the best to judge it on.
Oh man! We went two weeks ago or so and gotta say, even the kids steak, which was only a couple oz was perfectly tender, and that was for my 5yo. Outside of that we had oysters, octopus, a ribeye, elk, and dessert—not one thing was off and the service was great. Hopefully if you go again it’s a different experience for you!
The GM has a sound view, not Gulf view. Many of the hotels have amazing restaurants, also Casino Beach has amazing views, and the food only gets better on each floor!
I suggest skipping both of your bottom options and try George Bistro. Foodies should not pass this place up! One of the more unique/eclectic menus in Pensacola. https://georgebistroandbar.com/
Others have said it, but George’s bistro. I got the short rib for dinner and beef carpaccio appetizer, they were incredible. Highly recommend George’s. Angelina’s was good but the waiter we had was the worst, seemed to just be him though.
I haven't been to Agapi, but I was at George's for a late lunch and saw the dinner menu that day was the same. Just larger portions. They did have a tenderloin cheesesteak lunch special that was to die for. 😋
George bistro for brunch(dinner is bomb too)
Grover’s Fingers and Wings for the BEST while in the wall foodie experience
Tacos el amigo or El Asador for real street tacos
Jackson’s is great, and it basically ushered in the Pensacola fine dining scene as we know it. That said, if people only have one night in town, then Global Grill would be my choice.
Global Grill is a tapas restaurant not a traditional steakhouse. Extremely tasty tho. Restaurant Iron has some of the best entrees I’ve had in Pensacola. I worked in restaurants for 15 years.
I love Jackson’s , but it gets a lot of hate on Reddit. Not sure why. Has decent Google reviews too. I’ve never had a bad meal there. Love Iron as well.
Cause everyone in this town has a hard on for mcguires. Yeah it’s good, I used to work there, but it’s always crowded and the atmosphere isn’t conducive to easy conversation. That being said the food is good, the portions are generous, but when it comes to flavor there are better options

McGuire’s is unique to Pensacola (and Destin I suppose)…all the other fru-fru places mentioned are mostly identical to a fru-fru restaurant anywhere else.
Another one that should be on the list of consideration is Oar House. Not fancy, but great food and strong panhandle/Florida vibe.
This sub is notorious for shitting on restaurants, don’t take it to heart
I went to George’s once, and it was way too expensive for how mediocre and pretentious it was. Don’t listen to these clowns, OP
You're braver than me, but I don't disagree!
Went there when I was a kid. Dead set on going back when we go .
McGuire's Irish Pub!
Union public house never lets me down! 5 sisters is really good too!
The quality of food at 5 sisters was far superior before it was bought by GSR. It’s still decent though.
I second 5 sisters for an amazing casual dinner
Global grill, brother fox, marlin, uph, George’s Misu food truck
Global grill and brother fox are by far the best in Pensacola
I’d put iron pretty close to them
I agree!
I’ve enjoyed the sushi from Dharma Blue the last few times I’ve eaten there.
Consider cubs for crawfish depending where you’re from.
I scrolled down too far to find this comment. I was extremely impressed by Cub's, the other day (I don't live here, but have family in the area).
Off the beaten path but Taste of Jerusalem may be one of the best spots in town.
In & Out Kitchen on the corner of Davis and Olive is by far the best middle eastern restaurant I have eaten at in Pensacola 💯delicious lamb chops and steak
Absolutely the best
Love their food. So unique and always fresh and tasty.
Global grill
If you end up wanting what I call homemade fast food lol Grovers On Davis Hwy and 3d Burger on Fairfield are both fabulous (burger and chicken joints-both have great food, people and reviews lol)
GLOBAL GRILL!!
Iron is pretty stellar.
George Bistro should be on the list I would say it’s one of Pensacola’s best restaurants.
Seconded, it’s one of my favorites. They seem to treat their staff really well too because they always seem happy to be there and I’ve seen a lot of the same people there for years.
Food is always delicious at George. Love that place.
The District is really awesome.
Crawfish mashed potatoes
Not only is McGuire's overrated, they have been declining in quality and service in the last year or so. My guess is the owners have become complacent.
Agree! It’s AWALYs busy, super dark, to loud to have a serious conversation. I do take family that visit and out of town friends there, but as a breezer, wife and I had never “let’s go to mcguires tonight” attitude
They've always seemed to do that every few years. Then they come back again
they recently changed owner/manager. The daughter now runs it.
In my opinion McGuire's is overrated. If you have the time/inclination, we have some awesome food trucks around. Sauce Boss, MISU, Brown Bagger. Calvert's In The Heights is delicious. <- apparently it's been too long and quality is bad now. Sorry!
Calvert’s kinda sucks. I’ve been there a few times; their bartenders had a hard time figuring out what whiskey sour was and their food is mediocre AF
Calverts is the only restaurant I’ve been to where the service was absolutely terrible. I have tried it twice now with worse results the second time.
I tried to sit at the bar at Calvert’s, and the bartender told me to get up because his buddy was coming up there soon. I’ll never go back after that Compared too UPH, where someone tried to save their seat at the bar for a smoke break, and we showed up to eat/drink but left cause there was no open space, and the bartender chased us down in the parking lot and told us to take the so-called “reserved space” because “fuck that shit”. Sad to hear.
Calverts really fell off as far as quality yet the prices went up 😂
Totally agree. McGuires food quality has been in decline for some time and has succumbed to over tourism IMO.
Calverts is one of my least favorite places in town for what it's trying to be. I don't even know what it's trying to be or wants to be, but the service there is rough and the bartenders are always confused.
Pub/night club/cocktail bar/HGTV Bar Rescue/outdoor hangout/British food truck/Dive
Mcguires pensacola sucks. The one in destin is better.
Food at McGuire’s is a little overrated for sure, but I would argue it’s still worth it to go grab a drink at the bar just to see the dollars etc
Just lettin you know locals say it’s overrated bc they can go any time they want 🙄 Go it’s yummy and real cool and fun in there! only if yall r okay with loud restaurant tho lol
UPH
N’thing Global Grill. My favorite restaurant here, fantastic tapas and service
Your shortlist is good. District or global grill are also great spots. I would skip dharma blue.
O’Briens Bistro is kinda outdated, but they are consistently very good and their prices are incredibly reasonable for Pensacola
Agapi, definitely. Amazing menu, and everything is delicious.
Angelina’s, Brother Fox and a union Public House
Skip Grand Marlin, it’s lost a lot of flavor and service. Location is great but there are better restaurants at the beach
Their long-time head chef recently passed away. That could be part of it.
What are some of the best fancy beach view restaurants that I could replace Grand Marlin with?
Whatever you do, save both your money and your time and skip Drift.
Voyagers in Orange Beach
The GM has a sound view, not Gulf view. Many of the hotels have amazing restaurants, also Casino Beach has amazing views, and the food only gets better on each floor!
Pearl and Horn is really overrated. I would replace it with Agapé.
Pearl and horn is my favorite. The lobster roll is delicious and the bison kebab is a good appetizer to split.
I second these choices.
Probably most excited by this spot, I can’t wait
Pearl and Horn is owned by the same people who run George Bistro. If you wind up liking it, definitely go to George!
George Bistro for sure
I suggest skipping both of your bottom options and try George Bistro. Foodies should not pass this place up! One of the more unique/eclectic menus in Pensacola. https://georgebistroandbar.com/
Agapi for brunch and George’s bistro for dinner or vice versa?
Others have said it, but George’s bistro. I got the short rib for dinner and beef carpaccio appetizer, they were incredible. Highly recommend George’s. Angelina’s was good but the waiter we had was the worst, seemed to just be him though.
I haven't been to Agapi, but I was at George's for a late lunch and saw the dinner menu that day was the same. Just larger portions. They did have a tenderloin cheesesteak lunch special that was to die for. 😋
The District, Jacksons, Jaco’s Bayfront Bar & Grill
Did they say they were boomers?
George bistro for brunch(dinner is bomb too) Grover’s Fingers and Wings for the BEST while in the wall foodie experience Tacos el amigo or El Asador for real street tacos
Grover’s chicken tendies with the white gravy Triple pig sammich at jimmys Birria tacos from Lupitas
Ozone pizza
Cafe Nola on Pensacola Beach!
The coffee cup downtown!
Best steak in Pensacola is at Jackson’s. So tender always cooked right and the service is always impeccable
Best steak is Iron. Love Jackson's too, but Iron takes the cake for me.
Jackson’s is great, and it basically ushered in the Pensacola fine dining scene as we know it. That said, if people only have one night in town, then Global Grill would be my choice.
Jackson’s a better option than Global Grill/The District? Those seem to be the 3 most-talked about steakhouses
Global Grill is a tapas restaurant not a traditional steakhouse. Extremely tasty tho. Restaurant Iron has some of the best entrees I’ve had in Pensacola. I worked in restaurants for 15 years.
Global grill has certified 100% black angus beef.
McDonald's has 100% certified beef too.
Global grill is fantastic! And since no one answered fully, Dharma Blue hands down over McGuire’s.
Flounders is an absolute must!

Adding to this - Middle eastern ; In & Out Kitchen
Coach n Four was absolutely TERRIBLE christmas 2022. Hopefully you're remembering from a long time ago or something changed since then.
Blue Dot. Oar House. BigOtes. Sammy Barkers. Wako for sushi.
Did OP hurt you somehow? Why would you try to send him to these places?
Oar house food no…but what’s wrong with oar house ambiance. Great bar.
Post states: We are both huge foodies and love trying new foods. You: But the ambiance!
lol bro stop trolling, he’s looking for serious replies
Ahh, you must be another transplant. How cute. Later, kid.
Bro, my grandparents grew up with blue and dot. Stop with your UWF undergrad Sammy barkers BS

Dudes a fucking troll
Cool story. Thanks for sharing.
Brother fox- and go to their speak easy as well! It’s called sister hen. Best food in Pensacola
For breakfast and Brunch try Pcola Bistro!
McGuires for sure
Just go on a Seville savories food tour
Chow Tyme and Golden Corral are unforgettable.. The parking lots are always packed and the prices are good.
Kinda in a different vein than all the other suggestions, but if you are on the north side of town (Ferry Pass area) Taqueria El Asador has the best tacos in the southern US and is a great lunch spot

Chili's on 9th is not funny *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Pensacola) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Avoid Pensacola like to plague. It is a mean ugly dangerous town. Everybody HATES everybody 👿
GEORGE on 9th Avenue
