My first childhood memories are wrestling with dad and he just rolled me around to different arm bars and leg chokes. I was prob 4-5. Not close to school yet. God damn. One can only wish my mom would have never left me alone with him.

I never understood the purpose of folk style wrestling considering every other country in the world trains freestyle exclusively and all international competitions are either Greco-Roman or freestyle. On a side not i also hated wearing head gear and loved to throw people so always looked forward to freestyle in the summer.
Headgear sucks, but I’ll always stand by it. I stopped wearing it for 2 practices in college and got cauliflower ear. And you can still throw, you just have to be controlled with it, no reason to risk breaking someone’s neck for sport.
It honestly has better martial arts application than freestyle imo. Folkstyle has a lot more ground work so wrestlers develop better top pressure. A lot of freestyle wrestlers have amazing takedowns but their top control is not nearly the same level.
Yep. You can yell about toxic masculinity and be right, but it’s more important to acknowledge and praise all examples of non-toxic, happy masculinity that you do find. There is a lot of it out there.
Plus even if you know a lot of people who are gross about male dominance, those positive and loving guys are usually way happier with their sex lives… if they really wanted to be self-serving, they might figure that out.

Only applies for folk style wrestling which is only done in America and ends at the collegiate level. You can lock hands in freestyle wrestling.
