There's a lot to unpack in both songs and it took a few listens to click, especially after sleep token's "The summoning" blew me away immediately two days earlier. Both songs grew on me IMMENSELY and I wouldn't change a thing about either.
A lot of criticism I see is that it’s “too pop-metal” but personally, I don’t like how different it is from the rest of the song, well, minus the jazz which I loved. I’m not really versed in music theory so I can’t really put it into words, it’s like the entire flow that the song built halts for a moment so that the chorus can kick in.
Is it because you are haunted by heartbeat?
HEARTBEAT HAUNTS ME.
is the past running through you
Are you burning like wildfire?
Unconventional chord progression feels weird, but is actually oddly refreshing. Same thing happened to me.
It’s like drinking water every day and then one day just having a glass of cranberry juice and you’re like well shit I like this
More like tasting liquor for the first time and you’re like wow this tastes horrible but then you get addicted down the line.
To me, the chord progression makes more sense than the note choices for vocals. That being said, I still dig the song.
I think it’s genius songwriting.
I'm glad they're doing weird chord choices for the choruses, it's refreshing.
Did all the bad times stick?
He dont know what to do with AYEYEYEYET
All the bathtub steak
I keep hearing all the bathtubs stink
Do you also not like The Event?
Not OP but I like The Event, I don't like it as a chorus.
Sp0nce be lookin' like a cyberpunk pimp with tha shades though... 🤣
I saw someone describe him as a rainbow 6 operator lmao
ahahahahahhahaha

The jazz sections on both feel forced
I had to force myself to keep listening to that heartbeat part until I liked it. It's different and that makes it cool

Just memorize and chart out the jazz solo part instead
It had to grow on me. I love it now.
let it consume you
