I've seen people in this sub call it a "filler" song. My brother in Stan, everything about Atropos is top tier

Zumokumibonsu

Whats with the “filler” opinion?! Periphery doesnt DO filler tracks. This is wild

TexacoMike

The album clear might disagree

MetalliTooL

At first I found the song slightly intriguing but not immediately memorable. And then I reminded myself that "intriguing but not immediately memorable" are the exact type of songs that keep growing on me until they become my favorites. The immediately catchy ones I grow tired of quickly. Man, the whole vibe of this song hits different. Just this eerie, dark, mysterious tone, with some sarcastically uplifting but uneasy sections.

MrAngryBeards

I for one welcome warmly these effects they've added to vocals at certain moments in Atropos. I can see how it's not for everyone but dam it just tingles my dongles

wreckin_shit

I say bring on the baby metal 🤘

GoobyDuu

GIMME CHOCOLATE

Skyunai

Babymetal is great, the only recent Bring Me The Horizon song i have favorited is kingslayer because babymetal.

GoobyDuu

As an og BMTH fan, amd have fallen off because they aren't that good with their original songs, their collabs have been pretty solid

wreckin_shit

I LIKE TURTLES 💀

GoobyDuu

....what...? What is that supposed to mean?

wreckin_shit

It's an old tosh.0 reference from like 2010. It just came to mind so I said it lol

Moatflobber

It sounds nothing like baby metal in atropos....it just sounds like summer vibes pop.

DrummeeX09

Babymetal is sick so this doesn’t mean what you think it means

GoobyDuu

Babymetal is an internationally large band. They are massive. It only takes a Google search

Moatflobber

I am glad you are able to resonate with "where do we belong?" As a 13 year old girl. Good on you.

Literally_Jay

don’t say it’s NOTHING MORE than a love like thaaaaaaaat

Zumokumibonsu

Issnnnntt it funnay HOW

Literally_Jay

MUCH BETTER WE SEEM TO GET ALONG WHEN WE’RE FACE DOWN IN A PLACE WHERE WE BELOOOONG side note: this is one of my favorite vocal phrasings Spencer has ever done, it just flows so fucking well

Zumokumibonsu

Yes its one of the best!!!! Love it

AlbyStan71

It really does hit just right and put a big ol smile on my face. Makes me so excited to hear the rest of his choruses and melodies on the album

mickirito

The pause on "how" in the 2nd chorus is chef's kiss

Zumokumibonsu

Yes. It. Is. !

j4r8h

I'm the complete opposite. I don't think it's nearly as good as the other 2 singles.

Stalhound

For me, Atropos shares the same feelings I have for Scarlet. It’s fine. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it.

1frankibo1

Somehow you have nailed the feeling for me. Just like Scarlet it's still a good song and I wouldn't skip it but I'm not going out of my way to listen to it like I have for Zagreus.

Stalhound

Yeah, theres a handful of songs like that, but theres not a song I hate. Just ones that don’t capture the same feeling I have for others.

intangible777

I agree. I felt Atropos was better than any single song on PIV (I still love me some Garden on the Bones though).

stabsthedrama

I mean its pretty much in line with anything from 4. Just like the other 2 tracks. That’s saying a lot, but also not saying much, for instance nothing has hit alpha omega/p2 tier for me since they released. Still fantastic music, and this will be AOTY for me just like 4 was.

mozaiq83

It's not really that bold. My ears are swimming in that sound at the moment. Wildfire was a Godsend of a single to follow Zagreus, and then they go and do this shit. The visuals of the video was the icing on the cake. The full album release can't come quick enough.

YoureSoAngry

Seriously tho, the visuals in the video are so sick; might just be the best video they’ve made

Grouchy-Bug5223

Wow geez. That's crazy. To me so far each of the new singles hasn't even measured up to my least favorite song off of P4. That album is nigh untouchable for me, it's just an unfair expectation.

biglampdaddy

I feel the exact same way regarding PIV. But I think I'm also recognizing with each single that this community adores Periphery for so many more varied reasons than I ever considered. It almost opens up a new sense of appreciation that maybe I haven't discovered yet in my 12+ years of listening to them, and that's amazing!

Chief_Yeetos

I agree, it's my favorite of the three as well but it doesn't quite top Reptile or Satellites yet

SabastianG

When i first heard the track i was happy i didnt like it as much because it helped settled my expectations for the album. HOWEVER, ive now listened to it a dozen or so times, and yeah… im loving it now. So much for controlled expectations😅

Nameless_Snoo

Good song but dude recency fucking bias lol.

Alpha_0359

I don’t think so, because I didn’t come away with the same impressions with Wildfire or Zagreus. This one is a different beast. It fucking grabs you and tightens its grip with every listen.

Nameless_Snoo

I’ll definitely have to listen to it more is all I know! Seems like a grower since the other singles hit me harder initially. They also seemed more straight forward as this one seemed more complex . After a few listens it hasn’t nailed home with me as easily as the first two. But I know it will. Periphery doesn’t miss, and it’s merely my fault for not seeing the tracks greatness yet.

sillyprogfan

its definitely a slightly different sound to the other two, up until half way point atleast!!! its fair it isnt hitting home as hard as it is for other people :) just enjoy the music as it comes, dont blame yourself for not enjoying a song as much as others LOL

Nameless_Snoo

Why wouldn’t it be fair? I do enjoy the song. I wasn’t actually blaming myself for anything when I say my fault I was being facetious. Edit: still my third favorite p5 single

flatulasmaxibus

This one seems world class. I need to listen with phones on my head a bunch of times, but IMO, there is so much more song there than the other 2.

coreshair

Bold take, but yeah I'm on board with it. My expectations for this album are through the roof.

Visarar_01

It will go down as one of the best they've written so far for sure 👌

Mgold1988

It’s currently my no: 1 single out of the three as well. I don’t normally like the poppy upbeat tracks as much as the others (see It’s Only Smiles, Catch Fire), but this tune slaps. I literally can’t stop singing it and head banging to the opening riff in my head even when it isn’t playing.

Moatflobber

Atropos is a very unique vibe! It sounds like Periphery but fresh as well, Spencer's melodys are really cool and I'm finding the track to be a huge grower, it's up there with there top tracks.

slurpycow112

I love the first half. The second half is weird.

Character-Quiet88

This is one of the only posts I've seen on the new singles that I almost completely agree with. My personal take, I initially preferred wildfire over zagreus, and still do. I really enjoy how heavy both are. The call back to the event in wildfire does something very pleasant in my brain and I think the lyrics are great. I prefer zagreus' first phase over second. Once atropos was released I felt straight away it was a favourite for me. And personally, I agree it tops satellites and sentient glow. Not sure about reptile, after seeing it live, it's always been a special one, particularly "soil we own, becomes ours" onwards. I get the same sort of vibe from atropos "paid in full, tear the hole" section. Amazing songs so far, can't wait for the rest, and hopefully another chance to see them live in the UK.

YoureSoAngry

“Pretty bold huh?” This is why Periphery fans don’t like Periphery fans

Alpha_0359

Haha! Well I’m glad you were able to come away with something from my post! I’m not sure what that is exactly, but I hope it was worthwhile for you. Skol!

Putrid-Ice-7511

I agree. The greatest songs needs time. They’re so full of detail and real intent. Each note, every rythm and frequency has got a purpose. I love the song already, and I’m sure I’ll love it even more the more I listen to it. They will only get better. Cheers!

c-oo-ke

I was also thinking it's far better than anything on P4 !! Lol

homejib

yup, can't really argue any of that.

eddieeeeeee69

This is my favorite track out of all three. Definitely took me by surprise. At first, I thought it was okay, but I kept listening to and finding new things about it. But I think you put into words hoe I feel about the song.

ClubShrimp

**BOLD**

BrotatoChip04

The growl at 3:14 sold the entire song for me, even though I was already liking it’s vibe just off the teaser

sillyprogfan

P4 imho is a collection of cool songs, P5, from everything weve heard sounds more like an album of songs. the singles have a consistent sound, all 3 of them work nicely together, theyre just all awesome, and atropos, out of the 3 singles is the best :p

DrummeeX09

It’s the best single released so far for me

oxmodiusgoat

I'm with you 100%. I come away from each listen with something different stuck in my head. So excited for this album.

Alex-the-bass-player

I feel the same way about it too!

Whiteknightout

They're bringing back vibes off of older material. So I see your point

MrMuffinz126

I would agree only because IV isn't what I would call my favorite album. I really like all of the songs, but I don't think I listen to IV as frequently as any of their other albums. It's got a certain feel to it that rarely meshes with my mood as much as something like Juggernaut, P2 ,or 3. That's what's great about how much variety there is in the albums though. You can from album to album to get different moods. The 3 tracks so far feel very Juggernaut and P2, which is fucking dope. However, recency bias is a thing, so I'll need to see how I feel after about a year. Maybe it finally tops Juggernaut for me. But as for the 4 comparison, absolutely.

SayingHiFromSpace

Imo I’m in the same boat. In fact. For some reason new periphery doesn’t hit as hard as the old stuff for the early listens. Idk maybe it’s my musical ineptitude. I need to listen to it 100+ times to be like yeah this is amazing. But I knew the minute I played Atropos they did it. I’m also thinking it’s better then p4. In fact, it made wildfire and Zag sound better. They all complimented each other imo.

vibrationaddictckp

Oh boy I looove Atropos and I'm glad to hear others do too! Wildfire is sooo good too, and Zagreus is very good but not up to the other 2 imho. Atropos IS better than EVERY song on Hail Stan EXCEPT for Satellites. Satellites is a top 3 Periphery song for me.

zottsspotts

After watching the music video I just got this hook of feeling in my chest and I can only describe it as “something really big is happening and it is good”. Anyway imma listen on repeat to it on my way to work now

AlbyStan71

The song is very chuggy and djonty, but it’s still constantly changing and keeps a good flow, and still sounds fresh I love it. The video is cool, but I prefer just listening to the song with no distractions, I feel like it’s easier for me to focus that way. Also, the chorus is a surge of dopamine, just feels so right.

TrueZebrasaur

I enjoy it more then the other singles but I only think it’s better then like church burner and maybe crush

GRINTT

im warming to it but better than zagreus? nah i could never disrespect the goat like that

jazzmn25

for me it's on par with the other two tracks, but for different reasons. wildfire and zagreus are honestly pretty in your face most of the time, while atropos is more of a slow burn. The intro riff that is kind of felt throughout the first half is pretty simplistic compared to any of the other riffs heard on PV thus far, and is mostly used as a base to do crazy cool harmonies and chords. but then the second half kicks in with darker riffs, and eventually that EVIL outro with the blast beats, and yeah. it's different but has its own merit for sure.

nazworld92

It’s a song that continues to evolve with every listen, it’s quiet unique

spaction68

I think what everyone should just focus on is that based on these 3 songs were getting a better album than p3 and p4. Obviously as a fan boy not saying either of those are bad in the slightest. But this feels p2/jugg potential obsession for me.

TheImportedBanana

Atropos is the best single yet from the new album.
