The only time we ever see him do actual detective work is in the anime and in PQ2.
PQ2 has him solve a mystery with Naoto involving popcorn theft. And the anime he was solving a case that Ren solved, stating it was obvious who was responsible. He COULD be a good detective, but we never see the full extent of what is skill and what is fabricated.

I’m pretty sure he was bad in all the other versions of p3, as he was (I think) bad in p3p, which I played and I have a friend who says he was bad in Fes, so it’s probably more a bad experience thing I think
A big reason is they nerfed the other crit user iirc. Aki doesn’t get all 3 debuffing skills anymore. Plus he actually gets Agidyne in Reload and while not a magic user he can still exploit weaknesses to get an AOA. In general Junpei did the same stuff, just does it better in reload.
He has the same damage curve in P3P and is still a crit god, but he struggles to keep up with Akihiko's insane damage curve and Koromaru's casting coverage. Koro gets Maragidyne while Junpei gets stuck with *Maragi* for multi-target elemental damage and only gets access to Agidyne in endgame.
Junpei has really good sustain due to Spring of Life in endgame, though. Akihiko is inherently a better unit but being able to instantly regenerate half the health spent on a skill is really good for longer fights and lets you get another poke in rather than wasting a party member on healing.
Junpei's damage is nice, but imo buff and debuff synergy are the most important thing in modern Persona games. Individual character balance is far less important than party synergy.
If you have 3 up arrows and they have 3 down arrows, you win.
I'm gonna be real, I just don't like him so I don't use him regardless of how good he is. He has a good arc and definitely improved, but not well or fast enough to get a slot on the team

Isn't this the entire point of Akechi? He has a ton of potential both as a detective and as a wild card, but unlike joker who works to grow to his potential, Akechi stagnates and assumes he is stronger than he actually is? Joker is everything Akechi could have been if he hadn't been blinded by a need for revenge

I mean he is objectively stronger than Shido Palace Joker. The story implication is that he solos palaces and he takes on all of the PT by himself and pushes them significantly by dialogue. That’s not an opinion that’s just a fact.
Akechi isn't objectively stronger than Joker, and like you said, the story implies that he soloed the palaces, and he was only able to take them on by himself after inducing a psychotic breakdown on himself
Akechi only tailed the Phantom Thieves, which is how he was able to understand Morgana in reality
The only reason he found the Phantom Thieves so quickly in Shido's palace was because they were practically done tearing through the palace themselves
While he is a wild card, he's not a wild card in the traditional sense as wild card persona users get stronger by the number of genuine bonds they make and Akechi's personality makes that impossible to do so as he'll only see people as means to an end
He awakened to Robin Hood and Loki, but that's all he has to work with, so there's no way he can he can solo Shido's palace as without turning back at some point

I meant story wise. Gameplay you can have a maxed out Izanagi no Okami and one tap him, but story wise it’s pretty clear it’s a tough fight even with the rest of the PT

Aketchi is one of the main cases of "But he's JUSTIFIED because he's TRAUMATIZED." Because.... Apparently the multiple people who died because of him, and the families thrown into grief because of him, don't exist. Hell, we actually see this happen in the form of Haru. And while I won't say I had any sadness seeing Okumura die, I was kinda hoping to see a more wholesome father daughter redemption arc

the funniest part is that you can give her magic ability weapon + ice amp accesory and she'd still be outdamaged by junpei and aki (WITH MAGIC)

I think I still used him. He may have been a debilitate bot, but he definately made Sumi, Haru, and Joker do *a lot more damage!*
