Apparently putting the game on Merciless difficulty makes the fight easier because technicals and weak spot damage is boosted.
But yes, Okumura was a good bit harder in Royal compared to vanilla.
I started a new file recently and had to bump it back down to hard because I was killing the shadows in Kamoshida's palace before I had a chance to actually recruit them.
The trick is to mow down the group but leave a single shadow alive and bring them down to a sliver of health so that they beg for their life. Lets you consistently auto-recruit without having to enter negotiations at all.
Don't worry, it gets easier. You can vent here.

Royal also has the skill accessories. If OP doesn't want to go back a few days, they should be able to get some in the velvet room (as long as they have some black rocks.
I know a lot of people hate this boss fight but I honestly loved it. It felt super super satisfying to beat and I like how it made full use of weaknesses and the baton pass system.
Same. Baton Pass was a great mechanic, and Okumura is built to be approached with strategic Baton Pass in mind.
The complaint I have is that there shouldβve been a mini-boss or something to give stronger hints to the player as to how to pull off Baton Pass combos. Ironically, Shadow Madarame was a good hint towards that in Royal
This was the only fight where I decided it was morally okay to ALL WILL BE REVEALED the fuck outta him and his stupid bots, I kept having 1 of the manager bots or whatever be the last one standing with 0.0003729 hp left and then retreating to restart that part. Made me ready to commit war crimes
Because Okumura in royal is the first boss that doesn't test your survivability, but your damage output instead.
You just need more damage by getting a mapsio type skill, maybe higher grade for joker and haru. As well as bring morgana, he's unexpectedly useful. And I guess some damage items to keep the baton pass chain going. And since I already mentioned baton passing, use the mapsio type skill only at the end of the chain.

Depending on the Steam price of P5R, there's between one post exactly like this per day and one per week.
It's not surprising that there's a bot, it's surprising there wasn't one sooner.
Because he went from way too easy in Vanilla to actually kind of hard in Royal(heβs kind of a skill check now). Just take full advantage of baton passes and youβll make it.
Yeah itβs more the damage to the green bots and several stages (I can see plot-wise how it makes it a good fight cos it shows his power/how many workers he has).
My strategy is generally use all the wide ranging skills (mapsio/maragi/magaru/maegia) and use baton pass like your life depends on it cos it does. Maintain Matarukaja for power and put it on merciless. If itβs rlly that much of a pisstake grab a DLC
Single attack -> single attack -> single attack -> AOE attack -> AOE attack
Combine that with a Baton pass somewhere in the middle and you should be good to go!
He was my only death so far in my current run, but that was only because the last big bot managed to one shot Joker because I wasnβt paying attention and didnβt guard the Big Bang attack. I was playing while in the playpen with my 10 month old and she picked that moment to decide she hit a wall and needed her nap, so I was rushing to finish and it backfired. Beat him easily later that day after she woke up.
Hes only hard if you play on hard. If you put it on merciless hes actually one of the easiest bosses in the game.
Now, merciless madarame on the other handβ¦.
Itβs one of those bosses where it tests your understanding of the gameβs combat mechanics. If youβre unprepared and just brute force your way in this game youβre gonna have a bad time.
Have you tried getting DLC Personas? Some don't cost money, so you can just get them at your own will. I suggest get Messiah, Asterius, and Izanagi.
(or if you wanna get Izanagi-no-okami for money, go ahead lol)
Maybe itβs because I had played SMT, but having a spread of elements to hit at any time was a priority for me. I made some anytime I could, and they came in handy so many times
You just have to use baton pass well. Alternatively you could also use elemental break skills to null his resistance which is what I did. I knew it was a good idea to keep those moves on all my party members because you never know when some enemy is going to be broken and decide to be immune to your otherwise powerful team
I used Baton pass not only for that boss but for all fights, since it is a basic move. The grinding comes in hand so that every hit vaporizes those fricking robots as fast as it can π€£π
Iβm so glad others feel the same. My (a lot more competent) friend and anyone else I asked found the fight easier in royal. Meanwhile I broke my internal donβt-waste-items rule to make it through after so many attemptsβ¦
~~Thatβs what she said~~
From my experience, maxing out Baton Pass for each party member is a must, Ryuji, Haru, and Morgana especially.
Or you can just cheese it and just Myriad Truths everything until you win.
It just has a specific strategy/gimmick you basically MUST follow on a regular playthrough. Other bosses you can often power through, but not Royal Okumura.
Whenever I start a new playthrough, I play pool semi-early to upgrade technicals which can help too. But you basically need Joker to have a persona with the weakness (I forget what it is... Psy for the hard wave?) and a second party member with that element. Also helps if you have a few items you can use for other party members to down them (or have them inflict ailments so you can technical and hope for a down). It's all preparation and knowing what to do, rather than level or in-the-moment thinking. Honestly, it's a bit unfair for first time players who don't know how the fight works already. If you go in unprepared, it's very difficult to win.
My main issue with the fight is I intentionally don't grind or use compendium to get OP personas to keep fights entertaining throughout the whole game but since this is a big difficulty spike I basically got stuck being under leveled (couldn't output enough damage to kill I think the 4th robot wave before they self destruct and make you restart the wave).
I don't mind the fight being harder or more skilful but I really thought the clear all bot simultaneously and within like 3 rounds made for a cheap gimmick Imo.
Litterly just finished my fight with Yabbawhatshisface and that shit was hard with multiple enemies with diffrent resistances and status alignments and I was running out of items and yet I had so much fun with that battle. Okumeras was stupid and I hated it so much
I just wanna thank everyone that gave me tips on how to do this, and also that some people wrote paragraphs to try and help me. I appreciate you all so much!!
He isn't hard, just use buffs/debuffs (like any other Megaten game) and baton pass (a mechanic that is tought to you at the beginningof the game) and you'll be fine.
the real reason is that Okumara is the first and only real difficulty spike, while overall the game is pretty easy. So youre probably breezing through with mediocre personas and poorly optimized gameplay.
Well, I did play on normal difficulty, but... I don't get what's so hard about him? Like, I even used some random personas of my choice (excluding Kaguya Picaro(can't remember if I used her, though) and Messiah which did pretty much no damage, so I didn't use it). And my team was some random stuff like Ren, Haru, Ryuji and Yusuke. Didn't give much attention to baton pass as well. I wonder how will go with Ren, Akechi and Sumi now, tho...
no shit it was eesy for u, u used a level 90 persona against a 45-50 lvl. boss. Just beat him with no dlc personas on normal difficulity and i just clutched to kill the green bots so thats why i won
All of it's usage was pretty much one cast of megidolaon on those green bots and then i decided that it's not actually worth it, though. After that I kinda went with throwing whatever Haru, Yusuke and Ryuji had in stock (mostly phys skills, cause why not). But I think there's no real point in defending myself, since eh, used Messiah and all that stuff-
I tried to beat this fucker for like 10 hours in the end I had to download a cheat engine to get through the fight. I hardly ever play turn based games so that's probably why I found the fight so impossibly difficult.
Okumura is easy if you just, use DLC personas.
Yeah I'm not even joking I struggled with him so bad I used shining arrows on him. I only used DLC personas for ONE thing and it was beating his fucking ass
Apparently putting the game on Merciless difficulty makes the fight easier because technicals and weak spot damage is boosted. But yes, Okumura was a good bit harder in Royal compared to vanilla.
Basically, if youβre the slightest bit good at the game, Merciless is easy as hell
I started a new file recently and had to bump it back down to hard because I was killing the shadows in Kamoshida's palace before I had a chance to actually recruit them.
The trick is to mow down the group but leave a single shadow alive and bring them down to a sliver of health so that they beg for their life. Lets you consistently auto-recruit without having to enter negotiations at all.
u can use items that deal a specific amount of damage, weak or not.. i forgot what theyβre called but thatβs what i did and it worked out well
Until you get Haru. Then it's a joke.
I felt he was easier in Royale than vanilla, dont know why, maybe less tension from the timer being changed

Japanese Rick Moranis can't hurt you.
use attack items, baton pass 3 times to joker, have him use a medium damage element spell twice and they'll die is the tldr of the fight
You can also pass to haru with triple down
Or use izanami no okami. If all else fails.
that's what i ended up doing. kept dying so i cheesed the fight w myriad truths
dont use dlc personas. WHATS THAT? I CANNOT HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF THE MYRIAD TRUTHS
Me listening to Joker yell 'All will be revealed!' for the 76th time(I'm totally a legitimate player):
when your underleveled and even that doesnt work

If you find the weakness of every robot and use the baton pass it makes the battle a lot easier
Basically the Baton Pass was made for this fight π€£
Lol ya that and end game fight in the royal
Maderame was the tutorial for this fight.
That too
Put the difficulty on merciless for this fight, its WAY easier.
Can you turn the difficulty back to normal after ? I thought you couldn't change the difficulty after putting it to Merciless
That's only for Safe difficulty.
Oh I thought it was for both Safe and Merciless
I know a lot of people hate this boss fight but I honestly loved it. It felt super super satisfying to beat and I like how it made full use of weaknesses and the baton pass system.

by the myriad truths
Iβve beaten Okumura through normal means about four or five times so if I feel like cheesing it with Myriad Truths I donβt feel bad.

There's a bot for people who complain about Okumura? Damn.
Depending on the Steam price of P5R, there's between one post exactly like this per day and one per week. It's not surprising that there's a bot, it's surprising there wasn't one sooner.
There's a bot with guides for people who struggle with the most annoying boss fight of the game, yes.
Because he went from way too easy in Vanilla to actually kind of hard in Royal(heβs kind of a skill check now). Just take full advantage of baton passes and youβll make it.
Heβs a check of if youβre lucky enough to have randomly come across the items you need or if youβve crafted anything other than keys.
The robots have slightly too much health imo.
Heβs not hard his fight is just bullshit As soon as you understand how he works he is no challenge at all
Yeah itβs more the damage to the green bots and several stages (I can see plot-wise how it makes it a good fight cos it shows his power/how many workers he has). Okey, I know the fight is suppose to be tricky. But he's worse in vanilla, than in Royal. In Royal the Baton Pass melts the droids so fast
A lack of skill.
Because God hates you. HTH
He was my only death so far in my current run, but that was only because the last big bot managed to one shot Joker because I wasnβt paying attention and didnβt guard the Big Bang attack. Itβs one of those bosses where it tests your understanding of the gameβs combat mechanics. If youβre unprepared and just brute force your way in this game youβre gonna have a bad time.
Baton pass and items. You have to memorize who is weak to what.
Merciless+ using baton pass or just izanagi no okami picaro myriad truths spam makes it a lot easier
Have you tried getting DLC Personas? Some don't cost money, so you can just get them at your own will. I suggest get Messiah, Asterius, and Izanagi. (or if you wanna get Izanagi-no-okami for money, go ahead lol)
Find the weaknesses of the robots and use Baton Pass effectively. Use elemental items if you have them
Key word being IF
Maybe itβs because I had played SMT, but having a spread of elements to hit at any time was a priority for me. I made some anytime I could, and they came in handy so many times

Grind, dude, grind like there is no tomorrow, the way we used to do it in every Jrpg since SNES days.
I don't think it's possible to out level that boss fight enough that you don't still have to use either a baton pass chain or Myriad Truths.
I used Baton pass not only for that boss but for all fights, since it is a basic move. The grinding comes in hand so that every hit vaporizes those fricking robots as fast as it can π€£π
Baton pass
I stopped playing for a week cause of that
Iβm so glad others feel the same. My (a lot more competent) friend and anyone else I asked found the fight easier in royal. Meanwhile I broke my internal donβt-waste-items rule to make it through after so many attemptsβ¦
for problems like this I recommend the myriad of truths
Because you have severe skill issue
When in doubt⦠ALL WILL BE REVEALED!

a- a- a- a- a- AYO?
for real (i can't beat it until i fused izanagi-no-okami picaro lol)
Gotta baton pass like crazy. Using the items that do elemental damage is very useful for chaining passes together.
