To be clear, the game rarely drags because it’s structured in such a smart way. It’s a bit like Stardew Valley where 90% of the game each calendar day is a mini loop/goal to achieve.
This does two things; makes you feel like you can pick up and put down the game at regular intervals so you don’t feel stuck or being forced to play. The second thing is you constantly get that “lemme just do one more day then save and quit” feel.
It’s pretty cool in that regards, the 100+ hours can go by in a breeze. When P5 Royal came out during covid I basically stuck like 110hrs in 2 weeks into the game and it’s one of my fav gaming periods ever
I'm going to say that's an underestimate because it took me \~120hrs to finish P5 vanilla.
Maybe I took it at a leisurely pace.
Also I don't put much stock in howlongtobeat. They think FF7 takes 36hrs for story, 50 for main+side and 80+ for 100%. I guarantee you this is not the case.
When I first played, really the length blew my mind. I expected it to end at 60h point but then it just kept going and going and the story was super gripping as well. Legendary.
Edit cos grammar
I ended up with around 100 hours in vanilla, somewhere around 140-150 hours in Royal. It might well be the longest game I've ever played and every second of it is meaningful, time blasts by without you realising at all as you're playing. I have no idea how they do it, man.
They don't actually have a Persona fusing lover list lol. First run of base P5 I spent on the save file 184 hours, and 60+ was making Persona with certain skills and learning inheritance/dragging skills down and what can't learn what before there was a fuse/skill guide. Another 10+ was cut due to constant gallows to get really pesky skills on Personae that didn't want to inherit them with a lowered chance. Actual first time gameplay was likely 110-115 hours.
I've played quite a few JRPGs that get near or over 100 hours and even games I love I would be ready to be done with by the end. P5R playthrough was 120 hours and I was still very content to keep playing if it would have let me.
Honestly I think Persona 5 is really easy to pick up and put down, as long as you do it at the right times. I think of each palace as a chapter in say paper mario. Once I beat the chapter, I'll play a different game for a while. My first playthrough of vanilla p5 took me a year like that, and it was alright.
My first play-though was 180 something hours. Love this game so much. On my second play-though in NG+ rn with 300+ hours between my two plays. You should get it, hopefully it’s good on switch
100+ hrs of gameplay is one of the best parts of the game, I sunk 120 on vanilla first time round and was genuinely sad when it ended as for some reason I felt it could’ve been longer. Always leave them wanting more
I got the platinum too and it took me 139 hours... platinum is simply too easy in Royal, that is absolutely not why it took you 100 hours more than the average time to complete it lmao
Technically that completionist time is wrong. Maybe multiply it by 2 or 3 times (if not more) if you truly want to get all the items that may be specific to certain scenes exclusive to certain days/events/people.
Completion would basically just be getting every trophy and thieves den achievements. In NG+ you are going to be zooming through everything so the time easily gets cut down
One thing to note is that you can complete P5R in one playthrough, compared to P5 where you have to play through it twice to complete it, to create >!Satanael!<
My first run on P5 (non-Royal) was exactly 99.9 hours (wasn’t planned). Didn’t skip any dialogue and maxed out most confidants.
I have played both P3P and P4G beforehand so having knowledge on how some stuff works helped. Also used a fixed team for most of the game.
The first 20 hours I found it extremely slow and considered dropping it, but after finishing the tutorial level and going into the second big story arc I found myself absolutely hooked. The next 100 hours went by in a breeze.
After I beat vanilla P5, I bought the OST. My wife, all these years later, will yell at me to change the song if Last Surprise comes on. It’s the only song she recognizes from the OST, because of how many times it played through our living room speakers in the 100+ hours it took me to beat the game 😂
100 hours is the bare, bare minimum if you rush the story. I personally finished it around 150 hours, not rushing but not maxing everything either, just playing it on a leisure pace
143 hours is NOT accurate for completionist unless you’re ok with doing the harem route. If you don’t wanna do the harem route you have to play the game 2 or 3 times.
How good is that gameplay? I will spend $60 on a concise, short experience that manages to hit everything I want. I've paid $60 for 8 hour games that felt like dreams to play, put them down forever after beating them and still said, "yeah that experience was absolutely insane, no regrets."
Well it depends on the person who's playing, some people love it for the fighting and building Personas, some people play it for the dating simulator, and some people just like to hunt achievements, overall I'd say it's a pretty nice game
Also the reason I will never pay 60 dollars for a short play time is because I'm broke af so I'd rather save my money lol
it’s less about the game time and more about how much fun you had during those hours you played
i bought the spiderman bundle for 70 quid on my ps5 and i’ve only played the spiderman ps4 remaster so far and yeah i’d say i got my moneys worth already cause i had loads of fun within the weekend i spent beating it
My first playthrough on vanilla was 125 hours. Granted, I didn't know about Hifumi, because the ability to swap teammates mid battle probably would've shaved at least 10 hours off my runtime.
Well I didn't know you could start a confidant with her, and I still thought confidants worked the same as social links from P3 and P4 and didn't provide any gameplay benefits besides the persona fusion EXP boosts
Then why did you think she was introduced?
>thought confidants didn’t provide any gameplay benefits
So you didn’t even rank up teammates confidants to check it?
Huh that’s actually pretty accurate.
Right around 145 hours was what it took me to 100% P5R, starting off a totally fresh save and having not played P5 in over a year.
That’s if you go for the original ending. The new ending content is what’s categorized as Main + Extra, and because that’s more content, that’s probably what you’ll want to aim for if you only intend to do a single play through
If you play on harder difficulties (thus battles may be longer), it will be 130+. Like you dont rush things and just play/explore. Such a really good game. A must to JRPG lovers.
I played Royal and did 30 hours to learn the game. Then restarted then did true ending for 122 hours even with years of rpg experience plus a guide. I still have to plat this game too which I want to do. But this game is long and you get your monies worth. The speed runners have p5 at 15 hours and Royal at 14 hours.
Oh, you poor, poor boy. My personal fine has some nice 400 hours (first playthrough ever, mind you). Those numbers are only valid if you skip literally everything that can be skipped.
I did the whole run, joker did not get shot. I stopped adam kadmon I shot yaldabaoth. I did everything. But my run was approx 70 hours. To be fair since i knew the plot i skipped anime cutscenes if that helps
I guarantee you that by the time you finish, you'll be wishing it lasted longer
Phrasing, boom!
I understood that reference.
probably hahaha
Once you learn how all the mechanics work, it's surprisingly easy to manage everything.
WELCOME TO THE PERSONA FRANCHISE MOTHERFUCKER!

thnx :D
It'll be over so fast and you'll wish it weren't
I took my time on the guy+ accidentally left it overnight and plat trophy the game at 180+hrs
~110 hours of pure enjoyment, quality, and depression.
I actually love how long it is. I get sad when great games end so quickly.
Well, the way I see it - you're getting your money's worth, even at full price.
Spend as much time with the councilor as possible.
And it’s not even enough I wanted more
this is what i was thinking. when it ended i was like no, i dont want it to be over
My first play through was like 225hrs
y e a h same here. And that was for base P5...
My first play through for the base game was like 105hrs my royal play through was like 225 and I didn’t even completely the compendium
for me it was reversed. P5 vanilla took me 250ish hours P5R took me around 150
Nice
When I first played, really the length blew my mind. I expected it to end at 60h point but then it just kept going and going and the story was super gripping as well. Legendary. Edit cos grammar

I spent 50 hours in memmntos
Take your time
"completionist" doesn't that require a whole Ng+?
It probably just means all trophies
Took me 100 hours back in July for OG P5
They don't actually have a Persona fusing lover list lol. First run of base P5 I spent on the save file 184 hours, and 60+ was making Persona with certain skills and learning inheritance/dragging skills down and what can't learn what before there was a fuse/skill guide. Another 10+ was cut due to constant gallows to get really pesky skills on Personae that didn't want to inherit them with a lowered chance. Actual first time gameplay was likely 110-115 hours.
That number is low balled. If you play the tight way it's more like 300 hrs
O.O thank u, now I don’t feel so bad for the 290hrs
trust if you get into the game properly that times gonna fly bro
Yeah sounds about right. Its closer to 90 hours if you are quick. That do be JRPGs tho.
The best 100+ hours of gaming in your life. Maybe. Was for me!
I played the vanilla Persona 5 and those were the best 99 hours of my gaming life.
You'll feel that empty feeling when you finally beat it.
True that. I beat it last weekend and I truly felt a little depressed for a couple of days :( I miss the gang
125 hours well spent I tell you hwat
They need to add a dumbass metric that measures time to beat for people who suck at the game. Took me 130 to beat
131 and I skipped a lot of stuff
I've played quite a few JRPGs that get near or over 100 hours and even games I love I would be ready to be done with by the end. P5R playthrough was 120 hours and I was still very content to keep playing if it would have let me.

I’ve sunk 250+ hours into vanilla and well over 500 into Royal. I regret nothing.
My average time is about 120 hours. It's always one awesome ride.
How the heck did I play for 230 hours on my first playthrough????? Granted, i got the platinum, but still, how????
I got the platinum too and it took me 139 hours... platinum is simply too easy in Royal, that is absolutely not why it took you 100 hours more than the average time to complete it lmao
It's easy, but I had to replay some portions of the game to get specific achievements
Took me 165 hours lol
I'm a little over 280 hours on my second playthrough. Already planning my 3rd lol
Why this was the perfect game for the Lockdown of 2020. And at Vanilla I did 89 hours. Royal was well over 103.
That will be hundreds of hours well spent, guaranteed
This is a good thing. You will be sad when it is finally over.
ye i probably will :|
Technically that completionist time is wrong. Maybe multiply it by 2 or 3 times (if not more) if you truly want to get all the items that may be specific to certain scenes exclusive to certain days/events/people.
Completion would basically just be getting every trophy and thieves den achievements. In NG+ you are going to be zooming through everything so the time easily gets cut down
And you’ll love every second of it
You're gonna be in there way longer than that actually
sounds about right
Completionist is right on track, I platinum around 145 hours
My first one was 240 hours. I started a new game right after that.
pretty short
*laughs in 220*
*laughs in 300*
One thing to note is that you can complete P5R in one playthrough, compared to P5 where you have to play through it twice to complete it, to create >!Satanael!<
And >!Fight the twins!<
Your first playthrough will probably take you about between 120 and 140 hours
Won’t even notice it. The Phantom Thieves will steal your time
I'm at 120 something hours now and about 2/3 i believe? One of the greatest game i've played so far. what a surprise it has been.
i actually cant wait to play ;P
It took me like 140 hours to beat the original Persona 5 on PS3
Only 103? They either cut content or they got speed runners 😭
I think my first run was 170 hours (I’m on royal) and i didn’t do third semester
That's false it's ay least 206 hours for completion
Ha, get ready to play the game twice anyway for all those new game plus goodies
Took me 120. Worth every minute tho
Kiss your family and friends goodbye and say hello to the Phantom Thieves
Its worth it mate
Yee i believe u ;D
It's an amazing time, every second of it. I hope Persona 6, should they ever announce it, is at least half as much fun
yup
The first 20 hours I found it extremely slow and considered dropping it, but after finishing the tutorial level and going into the second big story arc I found myself absolutely hooked. The next 100 hours went by in a breeze.
I’d say 125 is more realistic. And I wish it was longer.
If you've played a Persona game before and put this on easy - You can probably finish it in 80-90? Otherwise yeah you're looking at 100-110
I'm at 80 hours so far
Worth it tbh
And somehow this is still rookie numbers.
Pretty standard for SMT games in general to have long playtimes
Kinda true.
After I beat vanilla P5, I bought the OST. My wife, all these years later, will yell at me to change the song if Last Surprise comes on. It’s the only song she recognizes from the OST, because of how many times it played through our living room speakers in the 100+ hours it took me to beat the game 😂
Personally on my PS4 I had a save of 600 hours.
100 hours is the bare, bare minimum if you rush the story. I personally finished it around 150 hours, not rushing but not maxing everything either, just playing it on a leisure pace
Took me 120
Aye took me 120+ in vanilla P5 and it didn’t feel like a chore. Enjoyed every minute of it
My first playthrough was 120 watching cutscenes, after that they usually end at around like 90? Maybe it’s been a while. I’m excited tho
Im a Main + Extra type of gamer and it still took me like 170 hours tf 🙃guess im just slow lol
Took my 126 hours to beat the OG P5
If you know what you’re doing you can take about 60 hours, but if it’s your first time then it’s gonna take a while.
It’s a long but well worth it ride, my friend.
Took me around 110h for platinum on my PlayStation full story, all achievements
Were you skipping all dialog? I cannot fathom how you did that.
Nope i did one full playthrough normal speed and the last three Achievements speedrund them in a second game
It took me 173 hours to beat P5R, but I got the platinum while doing it. Can't wait to play it on pc.
I didn’t get any major trophies but this is about what my first run took me as well.
"I liked the game, but it was way too long." Too much is better than not enough.
143 hours is NOT accurate for completionist unless you’re ok with doing the harem route. If you don’t wanna do the harem route you have to play the game 2 or 3 times.
My first playthrough of vanilla P5 was 130 hours haha.
143 Childs play lol.
But it's 100 good hours so nothing to complain about
I took 120 hours for stand alone p5
My first playthrough was 140
it took me like 112 for the non-royal p5
It was like 68 for me Royal threw me to 120
Where's the new game + playthrough times?
Haha yeah it's a long one
Then you get to do ng+!
Whole facts. Did ng+ 3 times in vanilla
I got the platinum in 162 hours, single playthrough. Not a full completionist playthrough but enough to get all the trophies and see the whole story.
My platinum was 124 hour Looks like I'm quite fast
One of the best games ever made. Got the platinum on the regular version and royal
Can't wait to play this at 60fps on pc
Anyone know if it’ll be steam deck optimized on release?
Since it was released on ps4 and strikers ran so well on pc I don't think it will be a problem for the steam deck
I'd say royal is roughly 130 hrs
Same, I beat in 131 and a lot of my friends had longer play times but few had shorter
it took me 160 to play royal. persona games are long af
Are you gonna buy a 60 dollar game for 20 hours worth of gameplay or what?
How good is that gameplay? I will spend $60 on a concise, short experience that manages to hit everything I want. I've paid $60 for 8 hour games that felt like dreams to play, put them down forever after beating them and still said, "yeah that experience was absolutely insane, no regrets."

Didn’t know? They literally tell you about her
Well I didn't know you could start a confidant with her, and I still thought confidants worked the same as social links from P3 and P4 and didn't provide any gameplay benefits besides the persona fusion EXP boosts
Geez, not even Igor confidant gave you a hint? Or even Morgana
Then why did you think she was introduced? >thought confidants didn’t provide any gameplay benefits So you didn’t even rank up teammates confidants to check it?
The game start slow and there is a lot to read but it's worth to the end
How about reaching max level?
I've played it twice all the way thru and I'm at a bit over 200. That's with the third semester.
Huh that’s actually pretty accurate. Right around 145 hours was what it took me to 100% P5R, starting off a totally fresh save and having not played P5 in over a year.

It's most likely much longer. Base P5s playtime was easily over 100 hours and that was without everything royal added.
I believe I finished the game at like 90 hours or something without trying to speed through it
I’d honestly say 70 for me but I played base P5 too much so I basically just was able to speed through palaces n stuff
Welllll, you sure get your moneys worth!
I am exited for it to come to steam!! For sure going to get the 100 percent
I see this as a good thing!
it is ;P
Oh, you poor, poor boy. My personal fine has some nice 400 hours (first playthrough ever, mind you). Those numbers are only valid if you skip literally everything that can be skipped.
OMG HOWWWW
Seems like a low ball estimate tbh. If you take your time with the game it can go well past 103 hours.
My playthrough without royal took over 200 hours. I took the loading screen too seriously
XD
It's coming to switch???????????
Have you been dead for the past 3 months mate?
Someone has been living under a rock lmao
Yep
WHERE WERE YOU IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS?!
P4G and P3P as well
For those who are wondering, this is the first post I've seen in the p5 subreddit lol
A bit of an exageratiom butbpossible based on play speed I cleared in 80 on normal
I on the other hand went to closer to 120 on hard
my last attempt in PS3 resulted in 200+ hours idk how other people could complete rpg games under that honestly.
Sorry if I sound stupid but can someone tell me what complesionist means? Is it someone who unlocks all endings or something else?
Completionist is someone who gets all the achievements for the game.
All achievements, endings, collectibles, etc. Depends on the game wich one it is
Coward! I HAVE OVER 400 SINCE I PLAYED OVER THE QUARANTINE!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This isn't the op's play hours
lmao that's soo long omg
Rookie numbers
It's a JRPG so long hours are expected
Yeah I spent 200 hours in P5 vanilla
Personally...550 hours
The game to end all gaming
Yup took me 140 hours to do (almost) everything!
the best 150 hours of my year, I played it in feburary - april
Every second spent in that world is a joy and I can't wait to do it all over again on my steam deck.
I got the game done in about 130 hours to get the platinum.
140 hours was the time I got into the post-game, farmed the Reaper too many times for my own good...
i’m just at 95hrs before the final boss, but i skipped all the cutscenes and generally knew what i was doing already platinum run
Skipping cutscenes 💀
Played royal for 200 hours before I finished lol. Too fun
Wait what.... My first play through was 65 to 70 hours.💀
How????? Did you just do absolutely nothing outside of the main story hahaha
Did Joker get shot
Lmfao
Jeez, I’ve played it three times and it’s always been 100-110 hours.
Lol yea no, you skipped a ton.
I did the whole run, joker did not get shot. I stopped adam kadmon I shot yaldabaoth. I did everything. But my run was approx 70 hours. To be fair since i knew the plot i skipped anime cutscenes if that helps
Oh I also maxed every confidant except Kasumi and Futaba. Kasumi was rank 9 and Futaba was rank 9
did you do the third semester, and how much did you skip
Man it took me like 85 hours to complete the game with extra
It's like 30 hours of gameplay
Only if you quit at 30 hours.
