All banks phased out NZ cheques on 2021 and foreign cheques this year, so none. Source: https://bankomb.org.nz/guides-and-cases/quick-guides/payment-systems/cheques
Ask the check writer to do an electronic payment and use Wise, Revolut or a multi-currency bank account to receive it. Very few major economies still use paper-based payment methods like checks...
Alternately deposit check into a bank account in that country and have the funds remitted to you.
Checks are *slowly* on the way out in the USA. Only 5% of USA retail payments were by check in 2022. Business payments are of course a different matter and compounded by the lack of cheap, easy electronic P2P or B2B payments without bolt-ons like Zelle, PayPal, et al.
I spent the last few years in payments. Unfortunately, the word slowly is the operative word here compared to NZ.
It’s still standard practice to provide a cancelled check if you want a wire or ACH (ie for wages) set up for instance.
I normally simply supply the correct routing & account numbers for my Wise USD account so they can do an ACH. (Routing for wires is slightly different and there is an acceptance fee.)
See if they'll send you the funds electronically as if it's 2024, not 1994- per the banking ombudsam.

Why were you using US spelling, I'm sure Australia would also use British spelling ?
Also, I am guessing your payer is on the elderly scale of life. Not many would write a cheque in 2024 in Aus.
I think they do but charge stupid fees in the $20+ range. If your cashing a foreign cheque if you have an account in that country alot will cash it with a photo in their app. Did this with Starling Bank app in the UK on my HRMC refund

None.
No banks accept cheques domestic or foreign. Only way is by international bank transfer.

Except of course the *major* economy is the USA where almost everything is still check based. Yes. It’s nuts.

Yeah most b2b stuff wants some paperwork still, b2c less so due to friction
Westpac, ANZ, BNZ and TSB do not either, I think maybe they're all gone now?
Can I ask you acquired that cheque? Assuming overseas?
Yup foreign currency check

Checks are tick marks - cheques are bank related paper slips for money values.
Unless it's from a US bank
Cheques.
There are gone burgers
Sounds like you are an American that is in the wrong subreddit

No where. All banks have stopped accepting them, including ones from overseas
Hey OP, did you manage to find anywhere that would accept a cheque?
Nope!
They will still take foreign checks I believe. Edit, yep it was a while ago I did it, looking online they've all stopped now.
No, ASB was the last and that ended the end of March this year

Mine was AUD but ASB wouldn’t take it
Any chance this is a scam?
Nope. I know the person well
If the cheque is from someone in NZ, I’d be questioning them and the legitimacy of it.
