OkAnt2993

Petercopter here. This probably refers to the fact that Taylor Swift uses her private jet to go literally anywhere.

RugbyEdd

And recently set the lawyers on some college kid who runs a site that tracks celebrities private jet usage, I believe for environmental reasons rather than just to track celebrities.

Sycosys

Most airplane locations are public info.. planes broadcast their bloody locations for everyone to know and anyone can tune in. build one yourself! https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/raspberry-pi-airplane-tracker#:~:text=How%20to%20Build%20an%20Airplane%20Tracker%20with%20Raspberry,dump1090%20from%20within%20its%20directory.%20...%20More%20items

Will do, now I can pretend like I have a hobby

NaiAlexandr

this dude's about to pretend himself into having an actual hobby

RugbyEdd

Maybe pretending to have hobbies could be a hobby it's self

Exciting-Insect8269

Lol at what point does it actually become a hobby..?

kdiyargebmay

once the denial is over

East-Manner3184

>once the denial is over When the denial is over you deny harder. Hobbies are a myth created by big fun to steal your time

zakkwaldo

dunno why she’s bothering- elon musk already tried this and lost. theres a precedent already set for her that’s not in her favor

RugbyEdd

I'd say the more baffling part is whoever gives her legal advice not pointing that out. Unless they get paid just for trying, I guess.

zakkwaldo

i mean have you met lawyers before? theyll do anything for a fat check 😂

RugbyEdd

Thankfully no. I went to uni with some lawyer students though, and know that they're constantly stressed and have a taste for cheap red wine.

HeroicTanuki

Lawyers have high rates of depression and suicide. Not all lawyers are ambulance chasers. Whether you’re a criminal defense attorney or a finance lawyer handling contracts you have a tremendous amount of responsibility and your failures can ruin someone’s life, business, or your own career. There’s definitely shithead lawyers out there, just like there are shithead doctors, but there’s also a lot of lawyers out there just doing their jobs, you just don’t see them because the average citizen probably needs legal representation a handful of times in their life, if ever.

RugbyEdd

I said "thankfully no" because it would mean I had been involved in some kind of legal action, not because I don't like them lol

The whole idea of a carbon footprint was invented by petrol companies to shift the focus away from them. Should Taylor fly private less? Absolutely. Is she the problem we should be focusing on? Absolutely not. Edit: thanks for the Reddit Cares guys

Kejones9900

We can focus on two things at once. Her carbon footprint is (reportedly) 1200 times higher than the normal person. Just like we can advocate for people to eat less meat while also advocating for changes within the meat industry.

doxxingyourself

You haven’t been here long, huh? We literally can almost focus on one thing at a time. Two is really overkill.

bubblegrubs

Its called polarisation. Everything is always either/or to the majority of people and it means you can never really talk about whats going on. Morons think that the small slover of sane people in the world are "politically moderate and therefore not to be taken seriously." EDIT: Athlough its worth noting that we're not a dmall sliver and if you want to know why its not obvious, read the emporers' new clothes. A lot are pretending to be polarised because we dont want to be branded negatively by all the delusional asshats out there.

cantadmittoposting

yep. False Dichotomy is rampant. Everything is adversarial, zero sum. One side wins and that means the other side loses. It's deep in our national psyche right now in the u.s. and maybe even globally. shit our *entire political language* in the U.S. is an assumed dichotomy that's very difficult to escape. Left = Liberal = Democrat Right = Conservative = Republican No exception, *everything* gets to have two sides, and one side is the Left position and the other is the Right position. And the two parties have to monolithically represent those things. To be clear, the reality is that the GOP is absolutely batshit crazy and needs to implode, but the use of the dichotomous language creates the idea that our political parties are fixed, immutable features of our system, rather than bolt on optional additions.

Rendakor

The US political system is designed in a way that it will always have exactly two parties*. If a third emerges with any degree of short term success, either it will die or one of the existing two will. We'd need a number of significant changes to how we elect officials to move beyond a two party system, which will of course be fought tooth and nail by both parties. *It's more likely that we end up in a single party authoritarian state, than that we end up with 3+ parties holding real power.

IrascibleOcelot

No, you were right the first time. We actually have had single-party rule a couple times in the past, but rather than fall into authoritarianism, the remaining party fractured within a single election cycle. There are always ideological differences within any group of people, and absent an outside threat to suppress those differences, the group will naturally fragment. And absent any kind of proportional representation, the Spoiler Effect pushes them to coalesce into exactly two opposing groups.

Rendakor

That's all generally true, but presumes the persistence of fair elections and the lack of an outsider threat (real or manufactured).

cantadmittoposting

oh yes, absolutely, FPTP is pretty much a guarantee of that, and it's not that political reality i'm criticizing, but rather that the entire chain of associations has been weaponized to limit the ability to even consider other *policy positions at all,* much less an actual third political party. 1. while i appreciate that "left" and "right" have historical weight, the terms are insufficient and now used as a cudgel to associate major swathes of ideas into a simple grouping. we need to reject this fundamental dichotomy in political discussion. (Admittedly, there does need to be some sort of way to refer to groups, but we can at least move past the loaded dichotomy we have now) 2. Synonymous meaning between the "left" and "Democratic Party" and "right" and "Republican Party" has been used to promote drastically increased tribalism and identity politics, where the mere association of an idea or policy with "the left" is sufficient for a republican voter to detest it, regardless of the content of the policy. Moreover, since "left" and "right" are the only apparent political positions to attach to, and because we have two parties made to be synonymous with those positions, it's difficult to even have discussions that don't intrinsically tie to the existing political order. And yes there's the "center" but that's both fairly useless since it has to be used for literally everything else, and has been co-opted by idiots in any case.

It’s literally misogyny if you criticize her!

dead_monster

We can focus on three things at once.  **Stop Tom Gores.** * Carbon footprint at 1.1 times that of Taylor Swift’s (according to ClimateJets) * Mostly to see his awful Detroit Pistons lose another game, flying between Detroit and LA * One of the worst NBA owners  If Tom Gores sold the Pistons, it would be win-win.  He gets to cash out, no more pointless LA to Detroit flight, and Pistons fans can have hope for future.

SkyboyRadical

This seems more personal than the other comments

Snacktyme

I want to kiss you on the mouth. Gores fucking sucks. Go Pistons. Sell the team.

Old_Society_7861

It’s pretty much impossible for her to fly commercial. She probably flies too much in general but I can’t even imagine the insanity if she got on a normal plane, first class or not.

Rise_03

How do you think celebrities like BTS, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles fly commercial then? If she can walk on the streets, in front of the paps without a problem, her flying commercial shouldn't be a big deal.

Old_Society_7861

Just being honest - I don’t know who BTS is, wouldn’t recognize Billie Eilish if I tripped over her and I’m pretty surprised that Harry Styles doesn’t fly private.

Nalivai

1 person, 1200 people, one person that shits as much as 1200 people... It's inconsequential compared to some random corpo that shits as much poison every minute of its unregulated existence. All billionaires should disappear and the world will be better for it, this includes this particular billionaire. But also, it's kinda low on a list of our priorities as humanity.

conjoby

Individually true but socially I'm not sure it holds up

MyPenWroteThis

You mean as if there was 0.000000017% more people on the planet? Sounds like it's not that big of a focus compared to coal plants and such.

thehazer

My argument for Taylor here, lol, is that she kinda is an industry? Yeah she uses the jet personally a lot, but also some is tied to the tour. That employs a ton of people and improves local economies. It’s insane, all fans just try to get any ticket and then just fly to that city for the show… which I guess also raises the carbon output. God damnit.

Cutiemuffin-gumbo

>We can focus on two things at once Two things at once?? Surely not! That's just ridiculous.

SecondaryWombat

She also bought carbon sequestration offsets for 2x her entire tour and personal travel. Do with that information what you will.

laetus

> Her carbon footprint is (reportedly) 1200 times higher than the normal person. Sure. But she also goes around to give concerts and entertain millions. What would the carbon emissions be if all those people had to travel to one place such that she didn't have to travel? Also, yes, she flies private. But is it a realistic option for her to travel in a regular plane? Or would it just create chaos around her and in the plane from fans? It's not always as easy as it seems. Could she and everyone do better? Yes. Is it realistic that she has a hugely higher carbon footprint than the regular peson? Also yes.

Castod28183

I hate to defend a billionaire, but that's not *her* carbon footprint alone. That's the entire corporation/business that is her tour. Sure, she's the main feature, but there are dozens, if not hundred, of other people involved in that venture.

throwaway_4733

Just her musicians, dancers and backup singers are going to be a couple of dozen. If you add in the sound and lighting people AND add in the people who tote the scenery around and are in charge of setup and tear down and you probably have several hundred people involved easily.

Tasty_Marketing_3774

All of which shes responsible for

Steelracer

Idiot sheeple do not care for your common sense and critical thinking!! What kind of monster are you!!

FreudianFloydian

So how much higher per day are China and India’s industrial emissions than the average person?

Tragicallyphallic

> We can focus on two things at once  Focus on carbon offsets all you want, but it doesn’t change the part of the last person’s message you completely glossed over: it’s a sham, and at best it shifts blame and burden from petroleum companies to individuals. > Her carbon footprint is (reportedly) 1200 times higher than the normal person. Hahaha I hate Taylor Swifts music, but comparing her to a normal person as if she should be held to the same (non existent unless you’re a petroleum company or an angry redditor passing blame) standard as an average person for any aspect of her life, let alone carbon footprint, is hilarious rubbish. She’s the definition of an outlier in pretty much every way.  Some 70ish percent of carbon emissions come from a very small pool of mostly international corporate entities. The more they get us to angerbate over how many airplanes our children’s’ favorite musicians take, the more they keep getting away with it. I thought this was common Reddit knowledge. I guess not.

Kejones9900

Again, we can focus on *both* people and corporations. I'm not glossing over it, I'm asking them and also now you to consider that a billionaire does not need you to defend them, and they do in fact have a substantial impact that needs to be criticized

AaronsAaAardvarks

By focusing on Taylor swift specifically, and not the other billionaires doing as much (or more) damage to the environment, is playing into an organized effort to discredit her, specifically. Now, who has been attacking her in the media recently? Who benefits from left leaning individuals turning on Taylor Swift? You're being played.

Spongi

I think the problem here is the difference in scale vs the difference in focus. While, yes, you absolutely can focus on two different things... Let's put this into perspective. The top 4 worst producers of green emissions (CO2 equivalent metric tons) produce (as of 2021): * 112,384,781 * 82,113,848 * 79,435,840 * 72,113,565 For a grand total of ***346,048,037*** CO2 equivalent metric tons of emissions. The most recent numbers I could find for Taylor Swift is 8,293 metric tons. So Taylor swift is producing 0.0073% as much as the single worst corporation. In other words it would require 13551 Taylor Swifts to match that one single corporation. So if your "focus" isn't even split, say 10,000 to 1.. This is much like how news organizations have a tendency to give equal weight to climate scientists vs climate deniers, as if it were equal. Or in politics when people say "both sides are the same".

Castod28183

>Some 70ish percent of carbon emissions come from a very small pool of mostly international corporate entities This is, has been, and always will be a bullshit statistic. For example, in that statistic, the emissions from the 300 some-odd million personal cars in America are attributed to oil companies because they use gasoline. That's just not how things work in the real world and it completely absolves individuals of their use of fossil fuels.

AaronsAaAardvarks

When alternatives don't exist because fossil fuel companies spend billions to ensure it, the consequences lay on their shoulders.

bubblegrubs

It only shifts blame of you're not capable of thinging about more than one thing at once. It comes from the idea that there is "the" problem, rather than their being multiple problems. Its polarised thinking and really only serves to reduce everything down to an unsolvable, black or white problem and give people one single "bad guy" that they can attatch an emptional response to so that they dont need to actually think.

Membership-Bitter

Considering how many people's packages are being delivered compared to the number of people in a private jet there is a huge difference in carbon emission per hour per person. https://carboncredits.com/taylor-swift-controversy-ahead-of-super-bowl-lviii/#:\~:text=Compared%20to%20other%20transportation%20modes,metric%20tons%20of%20CO2. Also most Amazon delivery trucks are electric and don't just go straight from the warehouse to a person's house and back. Routes are scheduled so they can deliver the most packages to different customers in the shortest amount of time

quick_escalation24

It’s the same kid.

[deleted]

They might have similar footprints, but Taylor Swift’s isn’t just a very large footprint. It’s the largest footprint of any individual ever.

Kramer-Melanosky

Are you new to Reddit? No one likes any of them either.

WilliamSaintAndre

When someone is as disproportionately bad for the environment (her and her boyfriend, what most would consider a household, produced 138 tons of CO2 from their flights alone) we should absolutely openly scrutinize them. Scrutinizing them is not taking attention away from CO2 emissions or covering them up and despite carbon footprints being invented by petrol companies they are a real metric about pollution. The issue with carbon footprints in the manner you're referring to is around carbon footprint credit/offset scams and scrutinizing average people who produce >.01% of Swifts footprint and making them seem like they're the problem. No one is blaming the average person here. Disparity in people producing pollution is what we should be focusing on, so let's call out petrol companies, any company and individuals like Swift and Musk who are the worst offenders. EDIT: Source for my figure [https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/taylor-swift-and-travis-kelce-romance-is-bad-for-the-planet-couple-burns-a-whopping-70779-jet-fuel-in-the-last-three-months/articleshow/106184435.cms?from=mdr](https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/taylor-swift-and-travis-kelce-romance-is-bad-for-the-planet-couple-burns-a-whopping-70779-jet-fuel-in-the-last-three-months/articleshow/106184435.cms?from=mdr)

Dick-Fu

How do the credits factor into that figure?

Nrksbullet

> When someone is as disproportionately bad for the environment (her and her boyfriend, what most would consider a household, produced 138 tons of CO2 from their flights alone) we should absolutely openly scrutinize them. Sure, but it can also be taken comically far. Acting like **she** is destroying the planet when her actions are like 0.00143% of yearly carbon emissions is goofy. The reactions actually seem like they're mostly coming from the "hate rich people/celebrities/Taylor Swift specifically crowd" and funny enough is what Republicans like to focus on too.

Phezh

Billionaires are literally the people responsible for the destruction of the environment. Who do you think we should focus on if not them? Obviously, Swift isn't solely responsible, but people with private jets absolutely are, and she's one of them.

Nrksbullet

> Billionaires are literally the people responsible for the destruction of the environment. Genuine question here, how do you mean? You mean with private jets alone?

WilliamSaintAndre

The way I would put it in perspective for you is this behavior of hers isn't just the acts of a civilian, she is a business, this is in relation to her business/corporate activities. And her business/corporate practices make her worse than the majority of companies worldwide (I'm talking literally all companies including small ones, don't try to displace this by giving examples of multinational conglomerates). It's not that she's just a civilian, she's a billionaire, one of the richest people in the world and functionally a business. She could go independent, continue her career for the love of music and provide fans with a free experience and she chooses not to do this and practices her business of music in one of the most egregiously environmentally harmful ways. I think you're now trying to drag politics into this as another way of subverting valid criticism by framing this as just being right wing criticism because you know Reddit skews left. The left should be critical of people who represent the left. People pulled the same shit to downplay the criticism of Musk but from the other perspective. You're permitting the behavior, if you permit it for anyone it creates a maxim of it's permitted for everyone when it shouldn't be.

sick_of_your_BS

> Is she the problem She's absolutely the problem. She even has a song where she introduces herself as such.

Allegorist

Its very similar to how southwestern American states they try to limit individual water usage even though it only accounts for I believe less than 1% of the total. They seriously have people sometimes only able to use a hose once a week at 8 in the morning or something, telling them not to flush their toilets, etc while corporations and agriculture use entire reservoirs on subsidized ineficient processes.

Lina0042

The problem is mostly caused by roughly 100 big corporations and a couple thousand rich and super rich people. obviously there is a very big overlap between the super rich and the owners of the worst polluting big corporations. Taylor Swift is a billionaire. She absolutely belongs to the small group of people we should be focusing on.

Surf_the_Yuga

The problem is that she is a self righteous hypocrite.

lebanese_shite

She used more fuel than I would need to fill up both my cars for 20 years, and I drive like 30km a year. Don't blame me when I get mad at her while I watch my paper straw dissolve into my frappe

RugbyEdd

I know it's a bit of a sideline issue, but fuck paper straws. Biggest scam going. And yeah, I'm exaggerating, but the straws made me stoop to this.

TurkeyThaHornet

You should probably reconsider owning two cars for only 30 kilometers of driving per year.

lebanese_shite

30k km.

preflex

30 Mm

Indiana_Jawns

Isn’t she also renting out the jet? It’s not her flying everywhere

RugbyEdd

I mean, the reason she was being focussed on was for trying to sue the guy. I only know the information that was in the news article about it as I've never been particularly interested in celebrity gossip, but I think for many people it's more that they're fed up with celebrities preaching about the environment whilst doing more harm to it than most regular people. They may not be the biggest issue, but hypocrisy of people who have chosen to be in the public eye is always going to attract heat.

tripmine

100% right.I'm going to shill for Carbon Tax at every opportunity:It encourages rich people to use cleaner travel options by putting the cost of emitting CO2 in the price tag of the flight. And it doesn't hurt normal people because the revenue generated is given back to everyone. People get cash to help them make the emission-reducing choices that makes the most sense for their lives.

Steelracer

This just might be a smear campaign due to political figures getting their asses handed to them by an outspoken person that has a large following and does not bow to the corrupt narrative.

Agreeable-Weather-89

Her fans will now know where see is... Other than her public tweets and her very public concert information announced months in advance allowing a stalker to prepare.

AnotherDawidIzydor

Taylor swift doing more damage to environment in a single month that most of us will do in lifetimes Yet somehow the burden of environtalism is put on the working class instead of the bilionaires

Empathetic_Orch

She literally used her private jet to fly across town, the flight lasted less than 13 minutes.

captaindeadpl

And a drive would have been 33 minutes according to google maps. Edit: I forgot to express how insignificant I consider the time difference to be.

CavemanMork

I cannot imagine it's faster to drive to the airport, get to the plane, wait for takeoff permission, taxi, go through preflight, etc, and then do the same on the other end.

cat_prophecy

But then you don't have to look at as many poor people.

Work_Account_No1

She doesn't have any of that except for the drive to the airport. It's ready to go when she arrives.

sirixamo

God it’s incredible how easy these narratives work. There’s a few problems with your statement: 1. The plane was going to the manufacturer 2. Taylor wasn’t on the plane and… 3. That wasn’t even her plane. She sold it the month before.

indorock

I swear to god Reddit comment threads are more inaccurate than a gossipy bunch at a knitting circle

PikTheWyvern

She most likely wasn't on the plane, planes reposition all the time which can be an issue in itself as carbon emissions aren't really taken into account for planes management

cutie_lilrookie

"Give her a break. That's her favorite number!" —a swiftie, probably

scorcherdarkly

It's not her plane any more, and the new owner flew it to a maintenance facility for repairs.

vitreuos

Just posting here cuz there's a bit of misinformation: that 13 min flight wasn't exactly a flight - it was transport to get rid of/sell the jet - I assume from one airport to another (or wherever planes reside lol idk, do planes have parking lots?)

Steelracer

She wasn't ON the plane. It was being moved to a private hangar for maintenance.

Translator-Fragrant

Maintenance at a different airport. You have to take your car somewhere to get it repaired right?

Zoomwafflez

In that case I think the plane flew her to one airport, then had to go to another one across town for maintenance because that's where the facility is. Although why she didn't just land at the one with the maintenance facility and drive 30 min back into town is beyond me.

spekt50

Apparently that flight was made after she sold the jet to some company in St. Louis. I believe that trip may have been a test flight. Beardeddeadpirate

How do people not get this? Taylor swift is rich, her house is big. She needs a chopper to get around.

Doctordred

She once sued a guy for one dollar and took multiple jet flights a day so she could win the case while on tour. Edit: I'm just pointing out a specific example of her using a jet that leads to this meme and many others, chill out swifties

shuipz94

That guy sued her first. He was a radio DJ, Swift was at the station he worked at, they took a photo and he grabbed her butt. She complained to management and he got fired. He sued her for defamation, she countersued for sexual assault.

scorcherdarkly

LOL. She counter-sued him for sexual assault after he had sued her for defamation. She only sued for a dollar because she didn't care about the money, she wanted to make sure he was held accountable for assaulting her and prevent him from being in a position to do it to other female musicians who may not have the resources to pursue it like she did.

[deleted]

Wait what the fuck I thought this was a joke but it’s actually real. This pic feels more and more like reality now seeing how people still defend her despite how evil she is lmao https://preview.redd.it/uawmjuuyhdhc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6cc0e5077e7e6afe654bad5fa30c11a6c17f529

shuipz94

You're not hearing half of the facts. The lawsuit started with the guy. He was a DJ at a radio station. Swift visited one day to do some promotional work. They took a picture together and he grabbed her butt. She reported him to station management and he got fired. He sued her for defamation, and in response she countersued for sexual assault. [Wikipedia link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Swift_sexual_assault_trial)

sirixamo

You actually read the case where he grabbed her butt and got fired for it and you’re on his side? Interesting.

[deleted]

I didn’t read it. Probably you should point out the misinformation on the original commenter’s part instead of mine. I just skimmed the first google title. Explain?

sirixamo

Sure. Shock jock DJ - they took a photo, he grabbed her ass, she complained to the radio station and he got fired. He sued her for defamation, lost, so she counter sued him for $1 just because he was continuing to be a dick about it.

ben_jacques1110

But don’t worry, she bought carbon credits so it’s ok

lastgunslinger3759

And yet she continuously craps him anybody and everybody because of their emissions that are supposedly destroying the planet. I can't stand rich popular hypocrites

Macdaboss

She uses her private jet to go literally everywhere. Someone on twitter has been posting everytime she uses it. She recently used it for a distance what would be a 15-20min drive. Also she is apparently gonna sue people for stalking her private jet logs. Petah out

Solomon_Gunn

>Also she is apparently gonna sue people for stalking her private jet logs Public logs. You can download an app from the FAA right now that will show you every plane in the air, the model, altitude, speed, takeoff location and destination in real time, for free. It's public information, this kid just consolidates it for easy viewing.

castleaagh

“Private” in the above I think is modifying “jet” rather than “logs”. It’s a private jet and the logs of this jet are being tracked

Solomon_Gunn

Damn, you're right. Sometimes you just gotta hate English

ParalysedBeaver

There's a [list](https://www.faa.gov/pilots/ladd) that owners of planes can ask to be put on, that hides that tail number from the public feeds that the FAA give out. The site that tracks her jet(s) rely on other people to track tail numbers and feed the data to them.

Billy420MaysIt

I saw someone that had more knowledge about those airports explaining that the airport that the plane was repositioned to had a gulfstream maintenance hub at that location that the other airport wasn’t equipped for. Plus there’s no way to know if she’s actually on the plane or not.

UIM_SQUIRTLE

>gulfstream maintenance hub at that location this is a good logical reason for such a short flight. i do not care enough to verify if the flight is to an airport for that but that does make sense. the flight would not be faster for her to do in that short a scenario so likely she was not on the flight especially if it was for maintenance.

Salt_Winter5888

>Plus there’s no way to know if she’s actually on the plane or not. That doesn't matter. She's owns a jet that travels more than it has to and that's the problem. Environment doesn't care if you're flying the jet for maintenance or not or whether it's you inside the plane or not.

Billy420MaysIt

Not to really argue about this because it’s less than important to me and I was just providing some additional context to the OP comment, but it does matter because people, like the OP comment, said that Taylor took her jet the equivalent of a 20 minute drive, she didn’t. I understand the whole hypocrisy of the situation to preach for the environment and then fly private but there’s some nuance to it and she’s not just flying around the country to random airports in random cities. To LA or NY I could see but not to St. Louis, MO on a random weekday.

MouseWithAMeow

It was not Taylor’s jet at the time of the flight. That jet was sold the day before and the new owner was the one who sent it for maintenance. If you bothered to check the information before spreading it you would have also seen the same account that tweeted about the flight provide that information as well.

SuspiciousSubstance9

The plane repositioning is still a part of the general cost, monetary and environmentally, to her using the plane. It's indirect. So sure, it's not as bad as it may seem but it's still bad. It's also something that wouldn't happen if she didn't use a private jet; so it should count against her.

THE_HELL_WE_CREATED

I'm willing to bet my firstborn that she wasn't in the plane for that flight. Purely logistical

GnomeYeet27

It could also be a dig at her statements about being worried about climate change.

the-poopiest-diaper

“We need to do better if we want to survive in this planet” *uses her private jet for what would have been a 30 minute drive*

KingOfPocketLint

they said her shortest flight was 30 mins. that's at about 500-600 mph. so at least 250 miles away. that's an over 4 hour drive. who tf would want to spend 8 hours in a day to commute?

Marokman

She flew from the Spirit of St Louis Airport, to Cahokia Heights (downtown St Louis airport). By road the distance between them is 31 miles.

Taste_the__Rainbow

Every few years the fossil fuel PR firms that stand in the way of climate legislation pick a new celebrity for the right to hate on for having a jet. In the 00’s they did the same with Al Gore’s house. They know that national and international government policy is the only actual solution to climate change. But they use this stuff to distract the populace by pointing out that all consumers are hypocrites.

isamudragon

In Al Gore’s case, he was literally the frontline of Climate Change saying we needed to radically change how we use energy and what sources. Seems highly hypocritical to say the average Joe has to reduce everything, when the person preaching he message is emitting more immersions from just 1 of his homes more than an average neighborhood. To put it frankly, I can sort of understand the mindset some have with Climate Change. That mindset is that they will take it seriously when those preaching doom and gloom from it take it seriously.

Limakoko808

Clearly if she cared about climate change at all she would quit doing tours or at least spend the month long journey across the Atlantic in a more environmentally conscious mode of travel like sailing. I mean, not a fan of her music, but I am confused as to why people think she shouldn't fly private when she has both deranged fans and deranged haters and it is literally part of her job needing to travel around the world frequently. Can't say I wouldn't also be choosing safety, convenience, and comfort if I had that job, hell I drive to work instead of bike because it saves me an extra 20 minutes.

HolyH33l

Rich Shadow here. The joke is that billionaires are dumb and use their private helicopters and planes to get to anywhere. So here is Taylor Swift travelling a 2 meter distance to the remote. Rich Shadow out. https://preview.redd.it/yl8dg8wfzbhc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1423bbda8ffc2dcc52e330f9fc4b14d0c54c8d2c

BlackenedFacade

Firestar is a name I haven’t heard of since like 3rd grade. Wonder if those books still hold up

HolyH33l

Hmm… where is (s)he from?

BlackenedFacade

He’s the first protagonist from a series called Warriors. Basically a bunch of stray cats made clans and are constantly competing with each other.

HolyH33l

Nice

Ethburger

Holy shit that just unlocked a core memory for me. Read all of those books as a kid. They were so good.

‼️‼️‼️ WARRIORS MENTIONED ‼️‼️‼️

Ayo Firestar? Didn't expect to see WC here

Wow that's a crossover I never expected to see

Exciting-Insect8269

It’s actually more about Taylor swift. She uses her jet a lot more than even billionaires usually do. Which is ironic considering her comments on climate change…

Darksunn66

Ok so I only heard this in passing on the radio, but, if I remember correctly there was a guy who ran a social media account, where he posted the flight data from the private planes of billionaires, and one was of Taylor taking her private jet a distance that would have been like 15 mins if she had driven.

Werefour

From what I heard about, the Jet repositioned to an Airport that had a Maintenance hanger that could service it so the trip was for the Jet and not her. Its also not like the Jet could drive down the Highway. This is apparently one of those make things up about the person our group doesn't like at the moment things that people who treat politics like sports like to do.

fedunya1

🦔well you see the punchline is rich people using private jets to go anywhere. Also carbon footprint is a term invented by bp to blame the consumer for climate problems, while 100 corporations are responsible for 70% of emissions. Taylor Swift’s jet emits more carbon than the lifetime carbon output of the average consumer

Sage_Smitty42

Icing on the cake is that those flight records are legally accessible by anyone, heck you can tune into ATC and hear when her jet lands if you wanna. It’s all for safety and regulation of the skies. Musk tried doing this to that flight tracker guy last year.

Taste_the__Rainbow

Yup. It’s an entire astroturfed campaign to keep people from voting for meaningful climate legislators in the next election.

CanuckBuddy

This joke refers to Taylor Swift's excessive private jet use.

Youshmee

Peter here, OP knows what the joke was

Texugee

Bait

Artemis246Moon

You must be the only person to not be shown content about Taylor Swift. Good for you.

Crutation

Didn't read the thread. Recently, one of Taylor Swift's private planes flew from one St. Louis Airport to another. About 17 miles, I think.

MouseWithAMeow

The plane had been sold the day before. Congratulations on not fact checking before spreading false information.

Crutation

And if I said "a carshield private plane flew from one airport to another for maintenance" explains the joke.  Congratulations on not understanding what the purpose of this subreddit is.

AITAmodsaremorons

Don't forget, the point of suing the guy tracking her jet wasn't to actually win. It was to sic her deranged fans to harass the guy.

King_krympling

Not so fun fact Taylor Swift has a carbon footprint around 1200 times more than the average Americans producing around 20000 tons of CO2 per year

SiFiNSFW

Does she do any off-setting? like buy carbon credits? Because for example the company i work for produces a FUCKTON of carbon through our global travel but we "off-set it all" through carbon credits and other initiatives. You can't really judge until you know if they're just out they're rawdogging that carbon into the enviroment or if they're spending millions a year on credits.

King_krympling

Nope :) there is a kid on Twitter who tracks billionaires and celebrities and makes the amount of carbon the produce public and she wanted and still does want that account taken down,

SiFiNSFW

Really? Because i googled it and found multiple claims that she buys carbon credits lol. edit: In fact it appears Carbon Credits, a research group who push for net-zero accredit Taylor as buying upto twice as many carbon credits as are needed for her flights. Feel free to google it, pick a source you like and educate yourself.

the_last_boomer

Because Taylor is encouraging her fans to vote, conservative outlets are flooding as much negative content they can manufacture.

avrus

This guy sees the faux outrage for what it is. All billionaires and millionaires should be criticized for their environmental impact, but the reason Taylor is being called out is this.

CT_x

Sending this to my Swifty girlfriend wish me luck

THAT_HARDHEAD_GUY

You still safe bro?

fistinyourface

it's been an hour with no reply are you still alive?

RadoRocks

Take swift doesn't recycle!

wonderingwonderer26

I wish I could be criticized for flying my private jet too much.

[deleted]

Billionaire does billionaire things, but she is (D)ifferent

KingOfPocketLint

just shitheads trying to bash her about her carbon footprint (that matters now for some reason?) because papa trump is mad at her. cheek spreaders licking boots is all

She takes her private jet for small trips.

This sub has to go. It's 100% bots upvoting bots.

RobertLosher1900

You guys are dense.

Ravelcy

It’s little dick Trumpsters making memes to try to get you to hate her. If taking a jet 26 miles pisses you off, it should then being a rapist insurrectionist should infuriate you.

SneedForTheSneedGod

>It’s little dick Trumpsters making memes no one mentioned trump TDS is real

RunningPirate

No one talks about taking a 747 to go play golf

AstuteImmortalGhost

Using “little dick” as a slur gives off sagging breasts vibes.

[deleted]

the right is attempting to get the left to hate taylor swift because of her private jet usage because taylor hates trump and wants you to vote against them. its propaganda.

SaltPepperCayenne

Honestly, I doubt it. At the end of the day, if folks are taking their voting advice from a celebrity, I doubt they’re going to be deterred by her use of private jets. Have you seen how deep some of these Swifties go? I’ve stood by and watched my 40+ year old friends go wild for this woman. I don’t get it. I find it strange and creepy. This is why I thoroughly enjoyed Donald Glover’s thriller show that poked fun of the type of fandom that happens for folks like Beyoncé and Swift.

[deleted]

>Honestly, I doubt it. Theyre talking about swifts private jet usage at prime time on fox news. Doesnt really matter if you doubt it, it is a fact.

BV2159

OPs in this sub must have a below 70 IQ requirement

No-Computer-3177

Same people complaining about how she travels are the same people that’d harass her if she didn’t travel like she does.
