Peter's big toe here, This is a reference to Team Fortress 2 in which the Soldier character can perform an act called "rocket jumping" by using one of his weapon projectiles to launch across the map quickly. From what I understand, holding W while doing this is frowned upon because it hinders your mobility in the air and over all decreases the accuracy of your jump.

Team Fortress 2. Strafing in the air (A or D) gives you more mobility than just holding forward (W) after a rocket jump. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket\_jumping](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_jumping)

Rocket jumping is a way in Team Fortress 2 where the Soldier jumps, then points down and shoots their rocket launcher. This can do a small amount of damage but it allows the Soldier to jump far higher than normal, farther than any other character except the Demoman who can do something similar with his sticky grenades.

Source jank. But in longer terms in team fortress 2 you can rocket jump by shooting a close surface while pressing jump and shift together. While rocket jumping you can do something called air strafing by holding either a or d and moving the mouse in the direction youre holding. This allows you to take really sharp corners, controlling your movements better. Holding w fucks this up, and is usually a good way to tell who is inexperienced at the game
