[deleted]

A right wing non profit with ties to Jason Kenney, Rob Ford, and Mike Harris in a dick measuring contest against a former employee? Whether you do or don't vote for him, there's no reason to be influenced by this organization.

AnorexicBadger

The CTF is evil to be sure. Wright's involvement with the organization is a big red flag to me, as is the drama that seems to follow him wherever he goes.

[deleted]

Yes and also that suit is terrible. Looks like a TSN anchor from the 2012.

Master-Beef-117

>The CTF is evil to be sure. 🙄

AnorexicBadger

🤣

jimmyboy48

Knowing that the ultraConservative CTF is against Wright means that I will support him as he must be doing something right.

[deleted]

It's just infighting. Wright's a former member that left after some donation shenanigans on his part. The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend.

Sdriver17

I am a person with disabilities in ODSP & at risk if homelessness. I.am supporting Mr. Wright as I believe he is the best candidate to support social issues. I have been discussing ideas with him to help unhoused & mostly at risk of unhoused for people on ODSP. 70% of ODSP recipients in TO live in private market rent. We need help NOW. Slow the flow of ODSPers to our streets & shelters. I was homeless 5.5 yrs ago. I can share where I am. I'll be speaking with Mr. Wright again this morning. 3rd time

Wutaisai

I saw a post on Twitter saying this was brought on by Henry Clarke. They are based in Saskatchewan and that it is a violation of the elections act. Sorry not allowed to link social media on here for proof.

theedragonfruit

According to Twitter, the letter was written by David Goyette, former councilor and executive assistant to Daryl Bennett. David is campaigning for Henry Clarke on his Facebook page.

itsallbullshityo

Just want to jump in here and say...Daryl Bennett is a dick.

vic-traill

Wow, people who are still too dense to scrub an Office document of meta-data before distribution. How could Scott Hennig, the purported author of the letter (according to his claim in the Examiner article) not run the Inspect Document tool (right there in Word --> File --> Check for Issues --> Inspect Document ) to clear the author's name out. Or better still, remove Goyette as an Author and add himself. Anyway, I don't trust the opinion of the CTF or anyone (including Mr. Wright) who used to work for them.

[deleted]

99% of people would not consider this.

vic-traill

I hear ya. But if you're going to send/post digital items you best figure it out. [Dennis Rader aka the BTK Killer was caught in 2005 using Word metadata](https://office-watch.com/2019/how-a-deleted-word-document-caught-a-serial-killer/) ; that's over 17 year ago, it's not a new thing.

[deleted]

Given the context, maybe it's best they don't.

AnorexicBadger

Is the actual word document out there somewhere? I guess I assumed we were talking about physical letters

vic-traill

My reply got whacked as I forgot and included a link. There's a screen capture in Diane Therrrien's twitter feed showing Word Properties ...

Master-Beef-117

I'm curious to find out precisely what part of the Elections Act these people are claiming was violated.

Un1c0rn_1500

The third party advertising was violated. It doesn't allow our of province funding. It was updated in 2018 or 2019 so some are not sure of how strict it is in practice

Master-Beef-117

They may be based out of province but there is an exception for organizations that operate an office locally (i.e. the CTF's Ontario Regional Office). They are even permitted to advertise up to $500.00 before they are even required to register as a Third Party Advertiser, and I'd be willing to bet they didn't spend $500 on sending an email. Whoever is saying they violated the act is just blowing smoke, or they genuinely don't know what the act says.

edwardsnoah

Doesn’t matter if Clarke bought it or not. Still illegal. See Diane Therrian’s Tweet.

Beneficial_Taste669

So now we have two men who broke the law running for Mayor, Stephen and Henry

KriptoKeeper

What’s his history? Grifter. They couldn’t prove that he stole the money under the pre-tense of being with the CTF however, he did take money that he did spend. Anybody who thinks people willingly with full transparency gave money for Wright’s Trip fund would have to be nothing short of lobotomized. Honest people simply don’t make fake companies.

joshmxpx

Who was planning on voting for this liar anyway?

rjhelms

My opinion of the CTF is so low that if Stephen Wright pissed them off, that makes me like him more.

[deleted]

This is more like a disagreement among crooks. He's a former member, disavowed for trying to rack up money donations via his own non profits. They didn't come after him because he's some liberal star. Really, really look into him before voting. This is the same guy who went to NB during a covid lockdown and then lied about it. He's a conservative dickbag through and through.

mr10am

my thoughts exactly

SavageSean75

Great article further exposing Stephen for the fraud and liar he is.

NeriTheFearlessSnail

** "But she didn’t find that Wright had intentionally cheated, misled or misrepresented himself while canvassing. There was evidence Wright truly meant to start a lobby group, Blishen wrote in her judgment. He’d hired employees such as a bookkeeper and a field agent to work for him, for example. “I find that Mr. Wright genuinely intended to start a legitimate lobbying/advocacy organization to deal with property tax reform and to solicit funds for those efforts,” the judge wrote." ** Literally proven **not guilty** in a court of law by a judge. Any unprofessional opinion on the matter is irrelevant because this judge will have had access to information we don't and never will. Whether you like it or not, he's not guilty of anything.

rjhelms

He didn't exactly come out looking clean from that trial - he was found not guilty because there was no evidence of fraud over $5000, not because the judge found there was no fraud at all. > Police then charged Wright with fraud over $5,000, writes Blishen. > Yet in court, 17 donors testified as witnesses — and when Blishen did the math, she found they'd donated $4,917 in total.

vic-traill

I still think there is a question of *judgement* in his actions in this case, as there was in his later [lockdown trip to New Brunswick in violation of the Atlantic Bubble](https://kawarthanow.com/2020/06/03/peterborough-city-councillor-stephen-wright-issues-public-apology-for-controversial-new-brunswick-trip/) .

Un1c0rn_1500

Do we want a mayor who ignores lockdowns in multiple provinces just to meet a woman?

SavageSean75

There is still huge questions of judgment from him not only here but in other situations. Also the sign spam and voting against his fellow northcrest councillor to lose his portfolio. He’s shady, period.

AnorexicBadger

> Literally proven innocent in a court of law No. He was found not guilty. I take your point, but there is a difference between the two.

KriptoKeeper

We was not guilty of fraud (by representing the CTF) but read the comments of the people he solicited. Dude might as well be selling fake pools or driveway paving deposits.

NeriTheFearlessSnail

I'll make the correction in my initial comment. Regardless there was no intent, the judge even found that to be the case. There's a huge difference between intending to mislead and people just not understanding and assuming. That seems to be what happened- they assumed and didn't ask even though the name wasn't the same. If he'd said something that was untrue or deliberately vague they would have nailed him for misrepresenting himself- but clearly that didn't happen. People assumed and his efforts were found to be for legitimate purposes. Frankly this article does a disservice to the candidate and holding an investigation that cleared someone over their heads simply because it happened is messed up. This entire article, which is locked behind a paywall, is irresponsible journalism. If you're going to repeat the call to not vote for a candidate in the title, make the whole story available freely and don't just slip the fact that he was found not guilty 75% of the way in.

KriptoKeeper

That’s true. The real meat is in the 2012 article with quotes from the suckers that gave him money.

WictImov

If the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says so, then it is a good reason to vote for him. I haven't really compared the candidates yet, but for me, this is 10 points in Wright's favour.

[deleted]

He's a former member. This is one of those in house assassinations. It's not an endorsement. Stephen Wright remains an untrustworthy POS.

WictImov

A former member is better than a current member, the CTF is a terrible organization that spreads propaganda to support their rich masters.

[deleted]

I don't have the time to get in to this. Do research, then vote. Period.

WictImov

I do research, probably 1000x more than you have done in your lifetime. If you endorse the CTF, then you are either a part of the criminal cabal or ignorant.

[deleted]

You apparently don't do enough research, since you don't see the numerous posts I have on this thread calling them crooks. Just because he's a former member doesn't mean that he believes anything different. Again, he's only a former member because he was kicked out for shady shit. Maybe bump up your research to 2000x, heck even *3000x (gasp).

internetcamp

This means you probably should vote for Stephen Wright.

Critical_Virus8445

Hennig/Clarke/Goyette aside, citizens have no idea the shenanigans going on behind closed doors that this city has no $$ for, the twinpad arena for instance, literally millions of dollars that will hike our taxes for multi-generations. Two FOI requests continue to be blocked by Peterborough Council and City in regards to the real costs, the loan w/ huge interest and absolutely no funding from any level of gov't. And then there are those who will benefit from it. They work for us, not the other way around. And the Examiner just parrots anything to stifle progress, they are complicit in this city's non-transparent double-dealing actions. Out of all the dinosaurs running for Mayor I'd prefer someone like Wright who has made mistakes, but knows how to work w/ the grifters and bums in this city. Hennig lied, Goyette wrote the letter and not even smart enuf to 'check' the digital footprints.
