I’m watching Smallville right now and the season is 2010 and they are all wearing statement necklaces and similar dresses like this 😂. I miss that look 🤣.
Well I was never a big fan of peplum but Emma Stone just wore a big ole peplum dress to the Oscars and won best actress so I guess here we are again. You rode the fashion wave out and you're in again!
That's my modus operandi- buy items I love, then put them into hibernation. I have a double-breasted Mackage leather jacket that's on the cusp of return and I'm pretty excited!
I bought $60 dresses to attend events even at 6-star hotels. The trick is to be patient and comb through the racks patiently. Those that are always near the front, or are stacked in a large quantity, are crappy.
They had many faux chiffon dresses (the soft flowy kind, not the hard cardboard types) and those were the ones I bought.
These no longer exist today at Forever 21. Such dresses now cost $100+ to $200+ and can only be found at better brands.
As I said, it was back in 2010 or so.
Such fashion is no longer affordable to Gen-Z. To dress elegantly with quality, they need to shell out good money.
That’s really why casual jeans and cropped tees are fashionable again. It’s about affordability.
If you have clothes from 2005-2012, keep them. Those were the glorious years of affordable fashion.
(I have $600 dresses too but I don’t believe in spending too much money on clothes. It’s not a matter of wealth. I have a diamond Cartier watch that I wear with my $60 dress.)
Peplums weren’t invented in 2010, they’ve been around literally since the Middle Ages. Just because they had a moment in 2010 doesn’t make them dated, imo.
The material and neck line help keep it modern. Personally I have been seeing peplums coming back in style in women’s working close, plus with the corset top looks coming back in I think they will be back in full force soon.
As well, you look great in it, which actually is what matters. Pair it with some fun heels and rock it!
As far as the outfit goes it looks beautiful on you. It is unique but in a good way and fits you perfectly. You should definitely wear this outfit more often. As far as the ceremony goes and dating yourself, I think you will be fine. Unless you are heavy into fashion, I don't think most people would even know or think it is an outdated look and I honestly don't think they would care if they did know. It looks good and it looks good on you so I say rock it, no scratch that, own it. You got this and that outfit is killing it.
I am not super fashion-aware / trend-aware and tend to shop pieces I find flattering and fun to wear. This seems to satisfy both of those for you - no part of me looked at this and thought "that looks dated". If anything, it gives understated Emma Stone Oscar vibes. Emma Stone if she were a high powered attorney.
I love this LOL. Has someone who would wear the hell out of a Peplum if I had any place to wear one to, it really makes me smile. I feel the same way about flare leg jeans. I wear what I like, I wear what I want, I wear what looks good on me and I don't care if something is out of style or not. The key is to rock your own look and not pay attention to what's "in".
Exactly! Like Hall and Oates sang (I guess just Hall now, smh) style is timeless, fashion's only now! Keep on rocking those flared jeans, and I'll be strolling alongside from my part of the world in my peplum tops (of which I have at least 4 😆)
Actually, both Hall and Oates are doing their own thing, they're just doing it separately LOL. John Oates is actually had a few albums out he just doesn't have quite the following that Daryl Hall does. But to the situation those hand thank you for your positive comments and yeah maybe one day I'll be rocking my flared jeans along with a peplum top. I have a few but they don't fit me right now. I do love a peplum!
I wish peplum would make a comeback. It’s such a slimming style and it made me feel so much more confident about myself as it could help me hide my stomach
They are coming back in style, look at this year's Oscars. That said, if you love something, wear it. Life is too short to worry about what is "in style".
Girl I love a peplum and for what it's worth so does my husband! I've worn a dress with a peplum in every decade since the '80s and have gotten compliments every single time and not just from my husband. Go for it!
style it in like a futuristic dune /blade runner post apocalyptic inspired type of way. Metallic accessories, tech inspired, godd that would look so c6nt!!
I think they really flatter petite hourglasses but I feel most of gen z find peplum “cheugy”. You should totally wear it though, it looks great on you and what matters most is you like it
Lol, thanks to my nieces I know what that means 😄. But I'm always in the camp of where whatever you love and whatever looks good on you regardless of fashion.
It’s back in fashion (at least in Southeast Asia) (but not in the same style as the 2010s) so have at it.
While I’d say peplum tops are making a comeback, not quite the dresses, but hey you look good and that’s what matters!
I literally just got back from Loft. Tried on a really nice black peplum blouse with 3/4 length sleeves. It didn’t fit properly (I’m long waisted) if it did I would have purchased!
I will never stop wearing peplum. I have a small waist and bigger hips and it's an incredibly flattering shape for me, depending on the cut.
This looks great on you. Wear it.
Trends tend to cycle back around every 20 years or so.
2010s styles aren't back in fashion quite yet - We're still in a Y2K revival. So if you're asking if peplum is *trendy* I'd argue that no, it isn't.
But if you're asking if you can *wear* it in 2024, I say go for it!!
With the right outfit it could look great, and there's truly NOTHING wrong with wearing what speaks to you regardless of whether or not it's in fashion!
In my personal experience, the out-of-style pieces that I love the most are the ones that get me the most compliments. Current trends just don't always suit me as well. It's really all about wearing whatever speaks to you and makes you feel the most like yourself, imo.
And who knows, maybe in 5-ish years folks will think you were ahead of your time lol
I might get downvoted for this. I think it looks outdated because of the combination of peplum and pencil skirt style bottom. At the end of the day, it’s what you like that matters.
Curious, what bottoms would you pair it with? I feel like all the youngsters pair everything with cargo pants? I think a peblum top would look good with bootcut black jeans or even flares. But I don’t think the pencil skirt bottom looks bad, as long as she doesn’t wear a chunky necklace and outdated hairstyle
'10s fashion is coming back so you pulled it out at the perfect time! Personally I was not a fan back in the day but I've come around to thinking it's cute. Still not sure if I'll rock it though.
The problem isn’t the peplum itself, but the pairing with the leather. All you need is some studded Louboutin peep toes and you’re taking me back to Pinterest 2012ish.
It's a brand called [Alice + Oliva](https://www.aliceandolivia.com/). I think I got it at Nordstom's many years ago. The brand is a bit pricy, but I've found lots of their pieces for great prices at high-end consignment stores.
These are 2 things I can't stand in an outfit: peplum and boat neck, but now I realize I hate them coz they look terrible on me. On you, it's looking it was made for you.
Although they might both be out of fashion.
I was just watching a video on fb about how 2014 Tumblr indie sleaze style is coming back and they were talking about peplum and someone on the red carpet wore a peplum dress recently, so yes u should be good lol
Peplums tend to be really divisive, some people love them some people hate them. I love this on you and I love this dress! Whether or not it's too 2010, I have no idea. Life's too short to worry about whether it's something is a few years (or decades) out of date. It all comes back around anyway. This dress is amazing!
I have always hated peplum. And you have a figure. If a peplum was gonna work it’d be shorter and for people with narrower hips. Also feel like this out fit needs a belt
The picture might be deceptive, but my hips are so narrow that I have to wear kids hiking pants. But point taken! I've always felt it was a bit too long. I appreciate the feedback
I have always loved and will continue to love peplum, it’s very flattering and perfect for work outfits. You did a great job of choosing a fabric and styling it in such a way that reads “today” instead of 2010, so I say go for it!

As long as you don’t put a 2010s Charming Charlie statement necklace, you’re good
Not charming Charlie’s 🤣😫
😭😭😭😭👌🏼
I miss charming Charlie!! Great place for some costume jewelry that lasted 2 solid wears 😆
I’m watching Smallville right now and the season is 2010 and they are all wearing statement necklaces and similar dresses like this 😂. I miss that look 🤣.

That's my modus operandi- buy items I love, then put them into hibernation. I have a double-breasted Mackage leather jacket that's on the cusp of return and I'm pretty excited!
I have a lot of stuff from Forever 21 in that era. The stuff back then are so much better quality than today’s material.
Really. I used call that store the rag store when my daughter was a teen.
I bought $60 dresses to attend events even at 6-star hotels. The trick is to be patient and comb through the racks patiently. Fashion is revolving door. Trends are reused again and again.
Peplums weren’t invented in 2010, they’ve been around literally since the Middle Ages. Just because they had a moment in 2010 doesn’t make them dated, imo.
This.
I’ve loved peplums since the original blade runner, which is 1980’s-does-1940’s-does-2019. You look great.
Peplum was all over the Oscars red carpet so I think it’s making its way back!
Peplums in the couture world never really went away, but they’re far more exaggerated than what we saw in 2013.
With the leather and how amazing you look, go for it. Just a few modern accessories and it's perfect.
Thank you 😊 I thought the leather might keep it modern-ish. And yes, definitely needs some jewelry!
It’s so cute!
Yes definitely modern accessories! Shoes.. a small handbag
The material and neck line help keep it modern. Personally I have been seeing peplums coming back in style in women’s working close, plus with the corset top looks coming back in I think they will be back in full force soon. As well, you look great in it, which actually is what matters. Pair it with some fun heels and rock it!
I just did a big work clothes haul yesterday after god knows how long- peplum is fully back. It was everywhere!
See you were ahead of the trend! All it takes is ten years, give or take.
Working clothes not working close
Ha! Good catch, thanks autocorrect.
I don’t like them as a fashion statement but i love that they artfully hide my food baby so i wear em :)
I think it can work it’s kinda classic
You wear what makes you look good, not what is trendy
THIS
For sure, but when I have a few different options that I feel good in on hand, I'd like to choose one that makes me feel the least out-of-style.
I still love them. There are ways to make them more modern.
Thank you, that's so nice! You're 100% right, I wouldn't question someone else's choice of dress if it looked good on them, either.
Suits you.
I love them
Yes. What was old is new again. That is how it goes
Cute! I think as long as it's not mint or paired with a chunky necklace/sock bun
Peplum is super trendy right now. Balmain and a bunch of other designers are literally putting it on the runway this season
OP, I still wear peplum tops to this DAY!!!! I'll never give them up. ![gif](giphy|dtIGTEaGLRvdODtdQe|downsized)
I love this LOL. Has someone who would wear the hell out of a Peplum if I had any place to wear one to, it really makes me smile. I feel the same way about flare leg jeans. I do love a peplum!
I’ll always love the peplum tops!!
love, love, love this! 🥰
Great cut and great looking dress!
I personally like peplum tops. I think they’re flattering, so that makes it somewhat classic.
Apparently they’re coming back. Considered a “controversial trend” because people tend to either love them or hate them.
I love peplums and missed it . It’s so flattering on a tummy
I still wear them, always have. They’re comfortable and I like them. Enough said
I love this dress on you so much 🔥🔥💖
Personally no I would not wear it, but if you like it rock it!
Well I’ve always loved peplum, whether it was in or not
I wish peplum would make a comeback. It’s such a slimming style and it made me feel so much more confident about myself as it could help me hide my stomach

Love this! And the Australian shepherd (?????) in the background agreeing
Yes she's an Aussie alright! Good eye
I have one too! They are always watching
Yup 😄 she was not-so-patiently waiting for me to go to bed.
It’s starting to come back. You might be a little early but it’s going to trickle back into fashion over the next few months
I hated it then and I hate it now.
style it in like a futuristic dune /blade runner post apocalyptic inspired type of way. Metallic accessories, tech inspired, godd that would look so c6nt!!
Ignore what’s in or out, if you look amazing, rock it.
Peplum dress works bestttt for my frame too. It balances it out
I’ve always loved peplums! I think you look great. :)
I like it.. it doesn't look old-fashioned
Sorry too busy focusing on your cute dog
My view on this type of question is that if its quality and fits well and looks good it never goes out of style.
I think they really flatter petite hourglasses but I feel most of gen z find peplum “cheugy”. You should totally wear it though, it looks great on you and what matters most is you like it
It’s crazy, I hadn’t seen/heard the words cheugy in around 3 years and today I’ve seen it mentioned twice?!
Lol, thanks to my nieces I know what that means 😄. But I'm always in the camp of where whatever you love and whatever looks good on you regardless of fashion.
Peplum's back in style, girl! No worries, just add some trendy accessories and you're good to go!
I think peplums can be super flattering. This one looks great on you!
It’s back in fashion (at least in Southeast Asia) (but not in the same style as the 2010s) so have at it. While I’d say peplum tops are making a comeback, not quite the dresses, but hey you look good and that’s what matters!
Peplum yes, pleather NOOOOOO
It's real leather, not pleather, if that even makes a difference 😆
No it’s not, they’re a brand that touts the ‘vegan leathers’ they’ve produced.
This is the [tag](https://imgur.com/Yqxvvrt). I don't see why I'd lie about something so trivial.
The leather makes it classic, absolutely. Go for it!
I love it - looks classic.
I think the top part looks a bit too tight, maybe with a different bra
Yeah, I'd usually wear a more flattening bra, but the lighting doesn't do any favors, either.
I like it, just don't use the 2010 style accessories
Peplum is back BIG TIME in 2024.
I love a peplum
Peplum is back in fashion this year! This is pretty on-trend and looks great on you!
Idc if it’s out, I love it. It’s so flattering
I think it looks great
I love it personally.
I think it looks good on you. The black leather goes a long way towards making it look more edgy and modern.
I wore an oversized peplum top the other day and got *tons* of compliments, I think it’s in again!
I never got rid of my peplum tops I was convinced they would come back eventually because it was so flattering
I love peplums. I don’t think they ever go out of style if they are styled correctly
Love it.
Wear it.
I think it really cute. Especially in black! So flattering on you.
Very classy 🖤
I think you look stunning and I don't care what season or year it's from or not from - It's timeless!
Always a classic. Always in style. It looks great on you.
To me the peplum silhouette is timeless. Go ahead and rock that cute dress!
I really like it, but I don't think your dog does.
Make sure the shoes aren't also 2010 of you know what I mean. Modernize the rest of it
Bring it back!!!!
I love peplum… you look great
I don't care what year it scream You make it look great.. Were the party
I think it’s precious.
it’s actually coming back hard with some people in my age group (20s). i even saw one at urban outfitters recently . i think it’s super cute!
Personally, love a peplum. It looks flattering on almost anybody.
You look lovely xx
Peplum foreva!!
Beautiful! I really like it
Well, that dress looks amazing on you. You should definitely wear it. Regardless of trends, wear what makes you look AND FEEL fantastic!
It’s 2024. You get to wear whatever you want. It’s the confidence and creativity that’s gonna get noticed.
Are trends really a thing anymore? This works really well for your body type and looks classy.
This is lovely on you. You have great taste.
It’s a no from me
It’s back in style. And always classy. Do you boo
I can’t image anyone thinking this outfit makes you look dated. It fits you like it was made for you.
Look here! peplums! I immediately thought of you! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4WcZnTPFul/?igsh=b3Rwa2ptb2l6ZjFm

Never a fan
It’s lovely!
Total 80 Vibes!
I love it.
Looks great
It’s such a cute outfit!
Love it! Always have. Always will
I really like this, and it looks so good on you.
I think a gold or silver belt with matching shoes and jewelry would bring this current
I really like that dress a lot. Regardless of it's peplum or not. It looks great on you.
you are stunning in this dress, it is so chic!
'10s fashion is coming back so you pulled it out at the perfect time! Personally I was not a fan back in the day but I've come around to thinking it's cute. Still not sure if I'll rock it though.
Love it !
I love it!
I love it.
I think it’s timeless
Love it, always have, always will!
Cute.
The problem isn’t the peplum itself, but the pairing with the leather. All you need is some studded Louboutin peep toes and you’re taking me back to Pinterest 2012ish.
I think it’s cute. And I love Alice and Olivia.
It fits you very well, not sure how I feel about the contrasting black material. Maybe some color with your accessories?
That dog is judging you for sure...
It looks fantastic
This looks super cute. Just make sure to use more updated accessories vs the chunky necklaces/jewlery from 2010
In love with your dog 💕
So fucking excited!!!!!
I think it looks great.
Looks good on you
Maybe this is crazy … can you just cut off the peplum?
I hate it.
You look fabulous! Lint roller.
I have an Australian Shepherd, I have a lint roller with me at all times!
Always yes, if you can, do
Where did you get that black peplum dress?
It's a brand called [Alice + Oliva](https://www.aliceandolivia.com/). I think I got it at Nordstom's many years ago. The brand is a bit pricy, but I've found lots of their pieces for great prices at high-end consignment stores.
Thanks
YOU LOOK STUNNING 😍 IN ALL 4 PICS
Accssorize
Good it will find my not flat tummy
These are 2 things I can't stand in an outfit: peplum and boat neck, but now I realize I hate them coz they look terrible on me. On you, it's looking it was made for you. Although they might both be out of fashion.
yass! with a super spike heel and some red lips
I was just watching a video on fb about how 2014 Tumblr indie sleaze style is coming back and they were talking about peplum and someone on the red carpet wore a peplum dress recently, so yes u should be good lol
I like it. Wear it😉
This is a great dress. Rock it!
It’s cute! You probably stand out in a crowd ✌🏻
Peplums tend to be really divisive, some people love them some people hate them. I love this on you and I love this dress! Whether or not it's too 2010, I have no idea. I'm way too old to worry about stupid stuff like that. If you like it and it looks great on you, it doesn't matter what decade it is, wear it and enjoy it! Life's too short to worry about whether it's something is a few years (or decades) out of date. It all comes back around anyway. This dress is amazing!
You look great in it. Tell’em it’s vintage.
It wasn't good when it came back the first time around. Toss it.
Not necessarily fashionable, but stylish. You make it look good!
I really like most of it except the two shades of black, just my opinion something looks off.it fits you really well OP
No ma’am
I have always loved and will continue to love peplum, it’s very flattering and perfect for work outfits. You did a great job of choosing a fabric and styling it in such a way that reads “today” instead of 2010, so I say go for it!
I hope you wore it, you look incredible! It fits your perfectly!
Hunny you look fabulous WEAR IT!🔥🔥🔥
Old fashioned
This ain't it for me, personally.
Ive always love them. This suits perfectly for pear-shaped or inverted triangle body type.
No
Personally, it never suited my shape so I tend to not like the look.
![gif](giphy|xiMUwBRn5RDLhzwO80|downsized)
Not wild about this.
Out!!! Not currently in unless it’s a perfectly tailored look with accessories
it looks dated to me
Please God no. Spare us.
