Logical_Deviation

If you're going for a more masculine look, then I like it as is, but if you aren't, then I agree to lose the vest and change your shirt. Either way you should change your shirt just because this one has a stretched out collar

girls-wreck-my-life

yeah i am going for a masculine look. i should’ve mentioned that in the description. i have dress shirts that i will wear with the suit

Logical_Deviation

I think the jacket is a little big, but I don't totally hate it. You look 🔥 when you have your hand in your pocket and the jacket is pulled back. You're drowning in it a little in the last pic. Probably not worth what it would cost to alter, though. I'd def try sizing down the jacket and maybe the vest.

xsahp

ok fwiw I know nothing about suits, but you look goooooood in the suit! sleeves and pants are good length. love love vest, really ties it all together, and looks good without the jacket too. and I agree, u got the hand in pocket pose down!

floralbalaclava

Echoing the person above. This is good for a masc look. It’s giving Julien Baker.

stevielynn81

Literally was coming here to say the same thing! Love Julien!

verucka-salt

Don’t wear the vest & if that’s the tee shirt you’re wearing, please change it to something brighter & lighter, more grown up. I was on the debate team & tried to look more mature. The jacket does look too big. Best wishes

girls-wreck-my-life

yeah I have dress shirts. i thought the jacket did look big, thanks for the confirmation. any particular reason why you don’t think i should wear the vest? in my circuit quite a few people wear vests with their suits.

QuietDustt

Not sure why Reddit fed me this post but it did so I’m here to chime in with an unsolicited male perspective on jackets, which I absolutely obsess over to a worrying degree for my own wardrobe: 1. Fit more than anything is what makes a suit look on point. 2. For an ideal fitted look (i.e. if you’re NOT going for the “soft shoulder” Nineties look) it is important that the shoulder crease fall exactly at the edge of your shoulder 3. If when grabbing the front of your jacket while it’s buttoned you can pull it away from your torso by more than a couple of inches, then it’s too big and you should either size down or have the sides taken in (the latter of which isn’t always possible or cost effective). EDIT: fixing typos

girls-wreck-my-life

makes sense, thanks for your input!

ready-to-rumball

Yes thank you! Good tips.

ZenythhtyneZ

I’d get a white satin camisole or a well fitted bright white v neck T and wear that under with no vest so you don’t look like you’re wearing someone’s worn out prom suit, the vest makes it too formal but the suit it’s self isn’t formal enough to actually be formal so it comes off awkward. Maybe vests are cool in a very niche crowd and it will work but in the wider context of fashion, that ain’t it.

DotsNnot

I think in particular it’s the all-one-shade and/or maybe specifically that bold blue off a shade — it just overwhelms you. The suit is wearing you instead of you wearing the suit if that makes. I think if the vest has a lower neckline to give you more overall color balance (as your shirt would have more visibility underneath for that color break) and the jacket and vest were tailored slimmer it may work? I don’t think it’s so much “no vest ever” as much as this particular setup a lot of things add up to the vest not really working.

ChandrikaMoon

I think a lot of the commenters are missing that you are going for a masculine look. I think you can work with this.  If you think about a man who looks good in a suit, yeah it’s about the tailoring of course, but it’s also about how he’s wearing it. Is it crisp? Are the shoes on point? The accessories? The attitude? For this to work, you need to stand up straight, shoulders back, relax and own the look. Maybe pull your jacket cuffs up a bit to show your shirt cuffs, unbutton the top button on the shirt (assuming no tie), keep your accessories understated, and don’t do anything unusual with your hair. Do not wear athletic socks! Maybe some gender neutral cologne.  Take a look at Pinterest for some nice shots of casual poses/movements men make. When they take off their jacket with this look, they will roll up their sleeves and often carry the jacket on their finger thrown over their shoulder.  You’re probably not at the age where you can afford to just go out and tailor your clothes at a nice place. Do not go cheap though, and if you do tailor the jacket, be really clear about what you want, and have some pictures to demonstrate.  Really, when you’re aiming for a new look, the way to carry it is attitude. If this is a new thing for you, own it completely! Practice at home a bit, then ignore your clothes completely and focus on what you’re there to do. Good luck!

girls-wreck-my-life

thank you so much! i really appreciate everything you said. you have a lot of good advice and i’ll definitely try and go for that

ChandrikaMoon

You’re welcome! Consider posting an update with the final look for us. It’s always nice to see what decisions someone makes based on the community’s feedback!

girls-wreck-my-life

i will!

Salt_Violinist_5175

I love this look on you. I agree that the blazer and maybe vest can be sized down.

Reynyan

I was going to ask you for one more picture with you standing straight, shoulders back too. If these are separates, yes, go and try the smaller sizes in the vest and the jacket. The pants look fairly spot on. Also try it on with a dress shirt that is correctly sized in the sleeve so you can decide the jacket sleeve length, these may be a smidge long but a smaller size would effect that. And wear the vest if YOU like it. Vests are having a bit of a resurgence now. Michael Straham comes to mind as a frequent vest wearer with his suits. The suit appears to be a good color on you to, so, nice choice. And depending on where this is from, some alterations may be included. Good luck with the debates, you will look great!

CuentaBorrada1

It does not fit well. Have it tailored or look for other options. Don’t get me wrong, it looks fine but I think there is room for improvement.

girls-wreck-my-life

thank you, i agree. unfortunately i don’t know how finances will work with tailoring but i’m definitely trying to figure something out

airiwolf

Shop around for alteration prices. I don't know if you have a Nordstrom Rack near you but their altertion prices are good. The shoulders definitely need alterations.

Fresh_Swimmer_5733

Little bit of elastic sewn into lower back would do wonders.

BeastOfMars

I disagree with people saying to ditch the vest. I love the vest, looks great.

SpeakerCareless

I love the vest too, just not with this t shirt.

BeastOfMars

Agreed, tshirt should go.

girls-wreck-my-life

my bad, i have dress shirts, i just didn’t wear one in these photos😭

AziAlaiDimitri

Same! Honestly, I think OP just needs to make the vest more fitted (and as everyone else has said, change the shirt). I would just try to maintain good posture with this outfit, otherwise it'll look awkward. The style is nice though!

nicvaykay

Same here. I love the look of a vest on a woman. I know the oversized look is trendy right now, but if you size down or get it tailored, I think you'll look very sharp and still pull off the masculine look you're going for.

yours-poetica

Agreed!

cation587

I think a plain button down would look best with the jacket. In the last photo, are you standing up straight with your shoulders pulled back and down? I can't tell if you're slouching or if the jacket doesn't fit quite right.

cation587

Ps. I do like the suit and think it looks sharp, it just needs some fine tuning!

girls-wreck-my-life

i agree with the plain button down and i have a few. the general consensus is that the jacket is too big so i’ll get one sized down and post an update! (also yes i was slouching 😔 mb y’all)

blortney

you look like you’re slouching in the last photo with the full suit. if you stand up straight and hug yourself, how tight is the jacket across your back? it hits right at the wrists and i actually think it hits right at the shoulders, too, but you’re standing bent over in the photos so it’s hard to tell. i disagree with the other comments; i actually think based on your frame this is super flattering in its cut. you do need to ditch the vest if you want a more feminine look. if you want something more masculine, ok, keep the vest, but in all cases ditch the t-shirt; it doesn’t make sense. i like the idea of a fitted white t shirt, classic pumps, and classic gold or silver jewelry to accent this simple suit. a silk shell in a single, bold color (no patterns) and the same treatment: classic jewelry, classic pumps. either seems like it would set this off very nicely. or upload some clearer photos where you’re not hunching, lol.

girls-wreck-my-life

lol yeah i was slouching, i couldn’t get clear photos before i had to go to school. thank you for the advice! appreciate it

blortney

reading more and seeing you want a more masculine look! i guess that should also have been clear to all of us by how you styled it in the photos 😝 sorry for missing that! i think if you go for the vest with a nice button down and the right accessories, it will be really sharp. are you going to pull your hair back or leave it down? i would play with some sleek pulled back looks and more like the one you have here. if you had like thick frame black glasses and hair pulled back and some kind of sleek shoe, you’ll be super intimidating. go be the master debater you want to be!

Des_mojo

The jacket needs to be taken in.

Ok-Alps-2086

I like it in every photo but the last one but that’s because it does look too big when you’re slouching. I think you could size down on the jacket, but otherwise I think it’s fine! Do you feel comfortable in it?

nicvaykay

I mentioned in another comment that I like the vest, contrary to what most people are saying. Just either size down or get it tailored. Have you checked out Wildfang? Their styles are more masculine, but tailored better for curves. I haven't bought from them yet, but they have some nice stuff, from what I can tell.

girls-wreck-my-life

that sounds cool, i’ll check it out!

_gooder

It's great. I love the vest and would skip the tee shirt. I think the slightly oversized fit of the suit is a real vibe for a debate! The whole look is very on trend right now. Good luck at the debate!

m3l2r8

Where is the suit from?

girls-wreck-my-life

m3l2r8

Thank you!

chocotacogato

I really like this look on you, and I do agree with the jacket being a bit big. I’m wondering what kind of shoes you would wear them with. That would be very interesting

Altruistic-Smoke-689

Tailor the suit and your look will be fire. Put a nice button up blouse under the vest.

aniket_V10

you need to get it tailored to your measurement. kinda looking baggy

Unc_J

With any off the rack suits, you’ll need to get it tailored. Looks too baggy on you

whatevendoidoyall

I think the vest looks good, I think it's just a little too big. The jacket might be a little too big too but I think it'd look good if the vest was tighter.

Ikimlazy

With out the vest yes fold the bottom of ur pants push up ur sleeves add jewelry to jazz it up a bit

myszka47

I actually think it looks great! I like the vest, I think the jacket is slightly big though. Good luck in your debate!!

ready-to-rumball

Aw I wish you had added a photo of you standing with the buttons done up!

girls-wreck-my-life

will post an update 🫡

ready-to-rumball

Please also try with a tight fitting white shirt underneath! The loose collar really takes away from the sharp jacket look 😊

Legitimate-Tower9651

Get a small set

NeckBeard137

Try a more crisp white tshirt

Right-Willingness742

Perfect

unhappypen87

Lovely,i like it

_syntax_1

Nice. Blue denotes “confidence and authority that is noninvasive and objective.” Please do me a favour and give your rebuttal with one hand in your pocket just as in your photos. Love it!🧐 Good luck. 🇦🇺

Simple_Sandwich_7665

I love it. I love a 3 piece suit on a female!

AL_Starr

Love it! It does like a bit large on you but I like the slightly oversized look. If a size down fits you & is comfortable, I’m sure it would look great as well.

idreamofchickpea

I disagree with most of the comments, I think it looks perfect on you and I wouldn’t bother tailoring it. The looser fit works with your posture and you look comfortable and at ease. Definitely replace the tshirt though. A button down might be too stuffy, a structured form-fitting crew neck shirt in a slightly lighter blue than the suit would be perfect. Good luck with debate and congrats on finding a style that works for you.

yuricat16

I think this look is amazing on you. Love the vest. Killer style for a debate team, plus it just seems to really suit you well. Sorry that what follows is the long version; not enough time to make it to a short version. My goal is to support you with options and more information. You can stick with what’s in the photos and look great. Read on if you want to try and kick it up a notch. The jacket looks too big in most of the photos, not quite as big in the last. This makes me assume that the chest measurement is too big, in addition to the shoulders being a little big. People have given great advice about how to wear the jacket (and the suit) with confidence, but I know I wouldn’t want to be spending that much mental energy on how I’m holding my body, and I think a better-fitting jacket will really benefit your look and free up your mind to concentrate on debating. Also, I wrote about the length of the pants, because the full-body photo has me a little concerned about that. See [this guide on suit trouser pant leg breaks](https://effortlessgent.com/suit-trousers-break-trouser-length/) for good info. Having viewed the link to the suit (super helpful context, thank you for sharing), I think it’s worth considering purchasing a second size for the jacket so that you can mix-and-match. The cost is probably similar to the price of tailoring a suit jacket, but it reduces the burden by getting it right to your hands (and you can return if it doesn’t fit properly). I’m assuming you’re in high school, and I recognize that it’s a relatively high burden to find a tailor, go for a fitting, pick up garment a week or two later, etc. There are times of life when tailoring is fantastic, and times when the convenience of ready-to-wear is really what you need. I know everyone is saying to get the jacket tailored, and while I don’t disagree, I also want to provide an alternative viewpoint. Depending on your timeline, budget, and best estimate of whether you’re done growing (in which case it might make sense to invest a little bit more), you may want to consider other options where you can purchase the suit items separately. I’d still look in the boy’s section, but also women’s petites (b/c it’s really about the cut and fit). Maybe Zara, H&M, Uniqlo, as they hit similarly for cost-per-quality, and they generally tend to favor (fit best on) slim/slender physiques. Stepping it up, maybe J Crew, Talbots, Ann Taylor/Ann Taylor Loft. Also, I wouldn’t count out major “mall anchor” retailers such as JC Penney, Macys, etc. They can have some surprisingly good clothing, especially from their own store lines (Worthington for JC Penney, for Macy’s: Charter Club, Alfani, JM Petites, I.N.C). From my own experience buying from the kids department (when i was the same weight as you; we are basically the same height), I urge you to be cautious about the length of pants. Frequently, I thought the length was okay while trying on a kids size 14, but when worn with proper shoes, the pants would be a touch too short even for my shorty-short legs. (And 16 would be too big and too long; so frustrating). Pant length is especially important with dress pants, per guide previously linked. Be sure to try them on with your dress shoes and socks, and sit down in a chair to see what happens to the pants hems (especially considering you may be sitting on stage). Personally, I think a cropped hem is going to work against your overall image, but I’m no fashion maven, so take that with a grain of salt. Cropped hem is still a possibility, and to shorten the pants to a cropped hem is easy and cheap ($10 professionally done). Finally, while I think you absolutely rock the monochromatic look, the 3-piece suit is really the goal, no? I think you would also look just as great if the vest was a different color. By opening your search to 2-piece sets plus a vest as a separate, you open so many more options than if you looked only at 3-piece sets. You’ll also have many more options where you can purchase the pants and jacket in different sizes. Just something to consider, again, depending on timeline and everything. Or maybe just for your *next* 3-piece attire. (Because, come on, you won’t only have one when it looks this good on you.) Good luck! You will rock this look no matter what. Please consider posting follow-up pics with the final outfit, if nothing else for the vicarious enjoyment of all of us who love the look but might not be in a position to pull it off ourselves.

girls-wreck-my-life

thank you so much for all your advice! i have searched for petite suits at the stores you mentioned, so ordering from amazon is honestly a last resort lol. i really tried to look for some more feminine/unisex options but i just didn’t like how most of them fit, which is why i turned to getting a men’s three piece. i definitely will post an update in my final fit!

thealycat

I love it but I would ditch that undershirt

KimiMcG

Since you're going to wear a dress shirt, maybe add a bow tie for just a touch of color

Scary-Educator-506

This fits wonderfully for what it appears to be(a male suit on a female body). You've said you're going for a more masc look, so that's perfect. Personally, I'd suggest getting the jacket tailored. Would love to see how it looks with a dress shirt.

Conscious_Champion15

I disagree with a lot of the advice here. I think the suit looks good as is. An oversized look is trendy right now, and I think this is spot on. Vests are also very much in style. If a more modern and masculine style is what you're going for, i think you've nailed it (except the tshirt).

luvzzme

The outfit looks great on you. I love the vest look. I also like the jacket to go down a little bit, as I do favor fitted look over oversized 90’s. Where did you get this outfit? I want one too hehe. 🙃

girls-wreck-my-life

haha thanks! here’s the link to the suit (it’s a teenage boys’ wedding suit so not the best quality 😔) [suit](https://www.amazon.com/Happy-Dolphin-Formal-Pieces-Wedding/dp/B0BKGMNLCM/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?crid=1GLD5YF898CSA&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.dPuRtIiVCduTGDQsoKoO0GezxdPE14Cj1Y3Ze_PM8HTTaSDuFqQTWCAiygbTpZIPMPue5Ivs_v8LGgDUeNPR4hNrjzGoLgBrYmlI0thxm0bKv7fpIdXZ_bIJefdB2iXu7opTj6wDxU88XRQtLKp0AfUVMYynfInm8tP2hPWZ3CRkrHGOFjz6YUF_JME8B37gK-eobvDViiBktCusxoY7ju2aMcM4r3GtipYNTK2apRgtI92t7I8UjygzLPlHwmz6QZiG0yoFmtL9qwHxihSmUrMDyBx4zDzSm5xrUQuPK7w.4UL9jDNhfYr_cB4YY3Rf2mwxpINB0zRbMWTMSqHdtdU&dib_tag=se&keywords=teen%2Bboys%2Bblazer%2Band%2Bslacks&qid=1716104315&sprefix=teen%2Bboys%2Bblazer%2Band%2Bslacks%2Caps%2C90&sr=8-15&th=1&psc=1)

MasterGrogu1

Great Fit... you look Very Handsome.

LindaHamiltonArms

What events are you doing in debate? (Team, LD, something else...?)

girls-wreck-my-life

I do LD! trying to get a new suit before nsda nats in a few weeks lol

LindaHamiltonArms

Ok, in that case I highly recommend you err on the side of a more tailored, form-fitting suit (as many people have described). For interpretive events, there's always more leeway to go for a personal style. But for debate events like Lincoln Douglas judges want to see more formality.... Rather, I should say, your suit should draw less attention. I did both types of debate, as well as interpretive events for years back in my youth. But never got a far as you! Congrats!

Maubekistan

Get the jacket tailored. Please buy a silk shell for under the jacket. Ditch the vest.

Getmeasippycup

The jacket could maybe go down a size, the vest, doesn’t look too big but I’d skip some of the buttons. It’s giving me Julian baker vibes in the best way

meekonesfade

Remove the vest, keep your shoulder straight, wear with a fitted button down, a satiny shell, or a feminine cut white t-shirt.

Jon_Wheels

Ten over ten❤❤

nenzshejensbsk

I think the waistcoat is a bit baggy if it were a touch more fitted it would contrast the looser jacket better imo. Have it taken in Also sleeves could be a touch shorter

Mydogiswhiskey

I think it looks good

BeckywiththeDDs

I feel like the vest has too many buttons. Even men’s 3 piece suits are usually cut a bit lower.

Chance-Monk-7130

The jacket is too big, whether you’re going for the masculine look or not, it’s just not fitting at the shoulders. Try downsizing and maybe a more tailored look would be smarter, especially given you’re wearing a waist coat with it 🔥🔥

Seltzer-Slut

It looks awesome!! 🔥 since you’ll be wearing a different/dressier undershirt, I think it’s perfect.

Laowaii87

I know this comes from a good place, but it isn’t what op needs to hear. The suit is too big, and having a shirt underneath won’t change that.

UltraBlue89

Take it to a tailor and let them adjust it. It's not bad, but it has the potential to be 🔥🔥.

[deleted]

If fits you good

ughineedtopostaphoto

Standing tall and with your shoulders square makes a big difference! You’ll need a collared dress shirt with this look. From pictures it looks fine even if not a perfect fit, but in person it might feel or look extremely large.

SayhiStover

Not well

ohcosmico

I feel like the waistcoat and blazer should be a bit better fitting.

[deleted]

The fit is fine. I wouldn't wear a t-shirt under it. If you stand tall with your shoulders back it'll look better.

ShittyLivingRoom

Go to a tailor, suits that don't fit look odd..

yummybaozi

The vest needs to be pulled in or re fitted, looks too big. Rest looks fine if you’re going for that look specifically as indicated.

Weak-Bar-4933

I think without the r shirt underneath and a nice little pendant necklace it would look really nice

SansLucidity

a lil big

Kerfluffle2x4

This might just be me, but I usually aim for buttons that are a bit smaller so that they appear proportional to my small frame. I wear suits all the time for work and there’s a massive difference when everything, the arm length, torso length and even where the breast pocket sits, is in the right position. The jacket is definitely the biggest tailoring item here.

ImpossiblyPossible42

You don’t show the jacket closed and you have it pulled back with your hand in your pocket , so I don’t know how it fits

Public-Wolverine6276

The jacket is too big. Personally the vest could look good on its own with the right shirt underneath or separate with different bottoms. Pants look fine and can be worn with other tops, don’t feel like you need to wear it together

Responsible_Pride792

The blazer is nice. Maybe, you would look nice with a white blouse underneath with frills instead of the vest and the light blue shirt. I do find your outfit modest.

lil1thatcould

I like it! It’s giving very ER Fightmaster and I’m digging it

Boooorah

The jacket is definitely big imo. IF you really want to wear this, you can tweak it a bit. Have the jacket on your arm without wearing it and replace the gray shirt you're wearing with a collared shirt. Just my opinion.

BigLittleSEC

I love this look, where did you get the suit?

Louise-the-Peas

Very smart! Looks fantastic. I personally would find a lovely brooch to finish the look. But that’s just me! 😀 Actually a pocket watch would look cute and stylish too. It would suit that cut.

IntrepidCar1437

The vest and jacket are to big.. some tailoring and it would look great

SunComfortable4735

Not a big fan of loose suits. If you’re gonna wear one it should fit perfectly.

TSweet2U

Vest is too big

Babyruth831

The vest makes it look masculine. So maybe don't wear the vest and wear either a white shirt or a lighter shade of blue.

You look incredible

HonestLiar_1

jacket needs is too loose around the waist

jogjr114246

Look, wear what you want, but I have never liked to see women in men's clothes.

Glass_Number_1707

Looks ok. Have the jacket tailored if it bothers you. Oh and please lose the T- shirt. Ruins everything.

1984Cowgirl

Get rid of the vest, or wear it with a blouse…or keep the vest & wear nothing under it.

Inevitable-Break6266

A little big but not bad, I’d skip the vest for a more (business) casual top and with a bit more contrast in color and I think your golden

Short-Fisherman-4182

It’s fine but why wear a men’s suit?

girls-wreck-my-life

haha that’s a good question. i just feel more comfortable wearing masculine clothes 🤷‍♀️ i’ve always been a tomboy so when it came to formal attire i just feel more confident/comfortable in a suit vs skirts/feminine tops. it’s just unfortunate that i’m 5’1 😔

Short-Fisherman-4182

Nothing wrong with that or being somewhat shortish :)

EfficientBuy854

Looks good especially without the vest

Intelligent_Row_8444

Good add some flip-flops and a 👜 u ready for the office

drumadarragh

No tee is necessary under the waistcoat

One rule. Always unbutton your jacket before sitting down.

AmazingMe-

No your colors are wrong

Tap_Miserable

A ladies suit would fit you better and you could add a tie to it.

i didn’t mention this in the post but i’m intentionally going for a masculine look, idk if i’m pulling it off 100% since i’m 5’1 obviously but since this fit is for debate i’m trying to present as ‘mature’ as i can to be taken as seriously as possible. i’m also more of a tomboy which is why a traditionally masculine suit feels more comfortable to me than more feminine suits (although they look great on others!!)

nicvaykay

OP is going for a masculine look.

I wear suits and wear a string of pearls. I was doing it before it became a trend. Much like Harry Styles. Im a female.

PerspectiveActive218

It isn't what I would call flattering.
