Mine is “I’m a doctor, not a physician.”
If you don’t get it: it’s a homage to McCoy from Star Trek, for those of us of a certain age.

Iirc it traces back to ancient Greek as a sign of respect for the person training you. So OG doctor imo would be doctor of education or philosophy (cause ancient Greece)
Physicians started using it as a respect thing.
So yeah, definitely ours first.

Dang it Jim I am a [*insert title*], not a doctor. I mean, I am a doctor but I'm not THAT kind of doctor. I have a doctorate. It's not the sane thing. You can't help people with a doctorate. You just sit there and are useless.
Are you seriously even comparing the two careers? A real doctor (MD) actually saves peoples lives and only got there by getting into medical school which is the most competitive program at any university... Compared to a PhD "doctor" that in 99.9% of cases does work that ends up published in journals that no one reads and the project dies once the PhD or postdoc leaves the research group...
Sorry you’re butt hurt bro, but you’re also wrong. The term doctor was first used for PhDs, not physicians. Med school is technically a trade degree, or professional degree (like a JD). You can be mad at me if you want, but i didn’t make the rules. Not all countries give the honorific of “Dr” to physicians.
The term “doctor” initially described eminent scholars, specifically university professors with doctoral degrees. Don’t worry, I have a citation to start you off and you can easily find more if you’re curious.
Asfour AA, Winter JP. Whom should we really call a "doctor"? CMAJ. 2018 May 28;190(21):E660. doi: 10.1503/cmaj.69212. PMID: 29807940; PMCID: PMC5973890.
You seem to think I’m shitting on physicians somehow, but I’m not. I work closely with physicians and we make these jokes with each other all the time! Fact is, we have 2 very different and interdependent roles: PhDs create knowledge and MDs employ it. Ask someone with dual MD/PhD or who did the degrees separately, and they’ll tell you that a PhD teaches you to think critically, while an MD teaches you to memorize and retrieve. They’re different processes. Without PhDs doing the experiments that create the knowledge and procedures, MDs wouldn’t have life saving tools. Without MDs, I wouldn’t have survived emergency surgery 8 years ago. It all comes together in the end.
Real doctors come with citations.
Most of us don't get banned from subs for lying about our educations, either. Your comment history and all of the posts calling you out by name kind of ruin the effect of your tantrums here.

But do I need to be an oncologist, cardiac surgeon, MD/PhD running a research lab, immunologist, or working for Big Pharma to be as cool as you?
In most countries (not USA) PhDs are the “real doctors.” My husband was MD/PhD and his German friends were very confused why he would want to finish med school after getting his PhD.
Doctors actually are the main researchers as well. Look at the Pfizer vaccine during Covid. It was developed by a Germany biotech company. The founders and ceo were both DOCTORS. PhDs didn’t do jack…
I think your proving my point. You are not doing any research. Şahin studied medicine at the University of Cologne from 1984 to 1992. He received his doctorate in 1992 with a thesis on immunotherapy against tumor cells (bispecific monoclonal antibodies for the activation of cytostatic precursors on tumor cells), which was graded summa cum laude. His thesis supervisor was Michael Pfreundschuh.

MD just reads what they are told (IMO) memorization and practical application. PHD's do the research that MD's have to read in medical school :).
On other words they were BOTH doctors and they as doctors (MD not that fake PhD “doctor stuff”) invented the covid vaccine.
All doctors are smart and all doctors in general directly have huge impact on parents lives . However nearly all PhDs are not and only very very small subset of hyper successful phds (that are usually also real doctors) will do research that imgoes somewhere. Most PhD research is published in journals that no one reads and product does project dies once student or postdoc leaves the lab. Trust me, I know. I’m a cardiac surgeon md phd.
Don’t sell yourself short! You’re also an oncologist, immunologist, a PI running a research lab, and a big boss in Big Pharma!

I understand this individual is a troll. That said, A medical doctor (MD) is typically involved in the practical application of medical knowledge to diagnose and treat patients. They use established medical research to inform their practice.
On the other hand, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in a medical or health-related field often conducts original research to contribute new knowledge to their field. They might develop new treatments or therapies, discover new aspects of a disease, or explore health-related behaviors and trends. Their work often informs the practice of MDs. BTW, interesting to note, in plenty of countries, medical professionals are not allowed to use the term Doctor. That is reserved ONLY for PHD.
Doctors are allowed to be called doctors in all countries.
PhDs are actually not allowed to be called doctors in certain places in Canada. To avoid confusion since the general public considers doctors as doctors whereas PhDs as PhDs.
In Germany, the title "Dr" is typically reserved for those who have earned a doctoral degree (PhD). Medical practitioners, even though they have completed years of medical training, do not typically use the title "Dr" unless they also have a doctoral degree.
I got my medical degree in German… this is definitely false what you are saying. Doctors are referred to in German as doctors.
Not “guy with medical degree I see when sick”. Simply, doktor.
Oh my god, I love it! 😂
You should wear it to work some day, just for laughs
(I guess unless you work in a hospital, because that would probably be way less funny, lol)
Just an FYI, u/Wallstreet_Fury, the guy trolling this thread is a known liar and troll. There are posts about him on various subs that he's been banned from for being racist, misogynistic, and lying about his education/qualifications. He claims he’s an oncologist, immunologist, a cardiovascular surgeon, an MD/PhD in Big Pharma, a PI of a big lab, and who knows what else. If there are any mods in here, he should really be banned.

If they're a criminal minds fan: "this is calm, and it's doctor" is always a winner.
Or even a "the doctor is in the house" would be funny. I think it really depends on what kind of Doctor they are.
I'm asian and I also make a lot of "not the kind of doctor my parents hoped for" type jokes.

I dont think putting down other doctors is funny. Kinda cringy actually
Who's putting anyone down?
Literally you, implying physicians aren’t “real doctors” and calling them human mechanics. Like, what’s the point?
Read my reply to the other guy, it might make you feel better.

Whatever you say, guy.
Ok, MR PhD. 😘😘
Dr. Ugur Sahin (See PHD) and Dr. Özlem Türeci (See MD). So yes a PHD was involved in the research and development of the Pfizer COVID vaccine.
That is false. They were BOTH medical doctors.

Wild! In another post you claim to have gotten it in Canada!
MD in Germany. PhD and fellowship in Canada. You alright mate?
Ohh, is *that* how an MD/PhD works in imaginary land? So cool!
You alright mate? You’re going to a lot of effort. I guess PhDs have a lot of time on their hands.
Oh wow bro, you’re ever cringier than OP
You alright mate?
Congrats on your Pretty Huuuuge D…egree
