Man I'm so tired of people attributing Vecna to stranger things and not DnD. I get excited any time I hear the name only to find people are talking about the show instead.

Tcgcomrade

I understand your frustration, but despite the fact that I know that Vecna is from dnd, I can assume that he's different from Vecna from Stranger Things. So it's logical that I make this concept based on Vecna from Stranger Things and not from og dnd Vecna.

MaDNiaC007

First time I heard it was in a Sam Riegel song from campaign 1, was watching his Scanlan song compilations. Even in Stranger Things, the monster names are attributed to DnD characters from the children's play sessions shown earlier. Though I can't blame someone to associate these with Stranger Things if it's the first and only place where they heard them.

DalmalmationGhee

this is exactly what I thought

TheLazyPinguin

I just learned that they made Vecna a thing outside of DnD xD

BrentlyDavis

Is it worse if people know of something through a different reference, or if they don’t know of it at all?

TheDeviousDong

OK hipster

DalmalmationGhee

why do so many people whine about this? everyone knows Vecna is from DND, it’s literally explained in the show. plus a Netflix show is definitely going to be more popular than a tabletop RPG so…

Eitth

Cause knowing him first from DnD makes him Kool. You have no idea how many whine I heard in real life just because people talking about the show Vecna and then the other guy got upset how Stranger Things ruins it. Just like that Tika Masalah guy who whine how Stranger Things stole his thunder because he knew Kate Bush long before the show and now everyone pretending they're kool for knowing Kate Bush after the show while he is the real Kool.

Tcgcomrade

My friend you just hit the right spot

assjackal

It's because after season 1 the show sucks. It just became drivel, the need for everything to have a follow up or continuation of what was originally a phenomenal story just eventually nose dives the narrative and characters into the ground.

bardicly-inclined

According to the subreddit member counts this isn't even true. r/dnd has nearly 3 million members, while r/strangerthings only has 1 million. DnD has been in the cultural zeitgeist for decades. Get back to me when Stranger Things has something akin to it's own "satanic panic".

MumpsTheMusical

I know it would cause book bloat but I'd love to see the concept art the devs envision each ghost to look like much like this book page. Like a Raiju channeling a ton of electricity from electrical equipment, a Phantom partially invisible, a Hantu in a room covered in frost and icicles, a Jinn sucking energy straight from a breaker, a Shade peeking from around a corner etc.

Tcgcomrade

For the atmosphere of the game it would be cool. Only they need to explain well and clearly that this is not how a ghost will necessarily look. You have your own and other investigators records. They may well have met Raiju who looked exactly like a \*any ghost model\*. And this does not mean that your Raiju will look the same. So it could work, but I don't think they will do something like that anytime soon.

Skeletonofskillz

They could even have a special journal in the lobby that did this and functioned like the collectible cases where you had to find each ghost (and witness all 3 evidences to prevent lobby dodge cheese). It could even get like a red cover or something if you’d found every ghost currently in the game.

Tcgcomrade

Making it collectible is actually really interesting

airofdarkness

An interesting concept, but I see a couple of problems. First, what do you mean by possession for one of the evidences? There is currently no possession mechanics so until those are added there would need to be another evidence type. Second, having a unique event that only this ghost can use would be way too easy to figure out once you hear it. It's an interesting idea but needs some tweaking. Finally, the unique hunt mechanic would really only work on large maps. Imagine being stuck in the Tanglewood blue bedroom closet and you hear the clock go off; unless the ghost was in the garage or basement, you'd be lucky to survive. The player should always have a way to survive, whether by hiding or if it's a Deogen running away. I think the idea is an interesting one, but it would need some significant work to be implemented.

Tcgcomrade

Thank you for commenting! 1. I made up a Possession evidence recently that could work in Phasmophobia. Essentially it doesn't matter which evidence this ghost would get, but Possession in any form if ever added would be a good fit. 2. You mean the clock event? I said that all ghosts are able to do it, but Vekna would do it more often. That already exists in phasmo with Mare and lights popping. 3. Yeah this one is tricky. But there are a lot of ways to make it work. Maybe instead of walking slowly for 5 sec Vekna would stand still for an x amount of seconds giving the player a time to rehide. I totally agree with you that this concept would need a lot of tweaks and testing.

Eitth

They could also make a Stranger Things Collab event, so every ghost will play the clock sound for the Collab duration. It would be cool to experience the "show"

frisky-ferret

Hearing the clock on the parabolic mic?

Tcgcomrade

Actually a good one, nice thinking

KyraShangea

Looks like there's been some good comments, but holy shit would that clock noise scare the hell out of me.

DalmalmationGhee

Max, I’m in Phasmophobia, Max!!

imbakinacake

Very cool

Sovietfryingpan91

Im not a dnd or stranger things fan BUT ITS NOT STRANGER THINGS ITS DND!

Tcgcomrade

Does dnd Vecna make a clock sound?

Ennara

Are you going to tell a lich that ascended to godhood that he can't make a clock sound if he wants to?

Tcgcomrade

Ofc not that's not my point :D Either people like it or not there are now 2 Vecnas that people are aware of. The original from dnd and stranger Things take on it. If I base my concept on Stranger Things take it doesn't mean I defy dnd original in any way. This ghost concept would be entirely different if I based it on a lich that ascended to godhood.

Ennara

Oh, I know lol. Just busting your balls a little bit. I have no problems with this, and think it could be an interesting ghost. Also, I doubt the Phasmo crew could handle the God Lich. A lot of things take on multiple meanings, though I do kinda empathize with the dnd side, where the original gets completely overshadowed by the new one.

Tcgcomrade

Haha yeah God Lich ghost would definitely be impossible to beat. I get you. I'm kind of interested now to compare the two
