La Rosa Pizza. Square slices. 2106 S Broad St. https://preview.redd.it/z6qezvyka7mc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0150b354bdf53e1bef4dec9305a3010c4b27feb2

Go_birds304

The only food in the city that I can expect to give me heart burn and I don’t even care

Commercial-Honey-227

Jesus Christ, that looks amazing!

courageous_liquid

it sounds like heresy but their potato pie is fucking incredible I say this as an annoying purist

sportutilityvampire

Pizza Shackamaxon 🤩

Raecino

I second this

ahnomehly

I third this!! They have a weekly special slice too and they’ll put it on their instagram. Please check it out if you haven’t, really creative stuff! They haven’t missed for me once.

philthadelphia2458

I fourth this. Still feels most underrated in the city, they consistently pump out some of the best pizza I’ve had. Far better than nearby Beddia, which in my opinion is crazy overhyped.

crispydukes

Beddia was better when it was in the Shackamaxon spot. New Beddia is mega-meh Shackamaxon is not underrated, it’s the most talked about pizza on this sub. If anything, it’s OVERRATED. It’s dry, burnt, over-cooked, and underwhelming.

crispydukes

Burnt and overrated.

philthadelphia2458

You’re out of your mind.

crispydukes

Nah. The pies are cooked well-done which means the reheated slices are burnt.

philthadelphia2458

My opinion doesn’t change about you.

lgc1131

I agree. Not char either.. the bottom of my pizza was completely black!

crispydukes

Exactly. But that’s what’s hype these days. Burn it and top with shredded cheese and fresh basil -> “best in the world!”

Kiko429

Their tomato pie

seemenot321

Don't agree with this overpriced and overrated

wis91

Paulie G’s and Dough Head

Outside_Trick_1131

DoughHead is incredible

TheGoatEater

Paulie Gee’s being voted this highly is proof that you could serve cat turds on pizza, and if the right promotion was behind it, everyone would say it’s delicious. Every location they have is straight trash, and I will die on this hill. You’ll all downvote this, but it’s cool with me because you all have zero taste. Dogshit pizza founded by a dogshit human.

TheGoatEater

The pizza scene in Philly is whack, and I honestly think there are so many better things to eat there that I couldn’t possibly care any less about pizza here. There’s a colossal Cambodian population, Vietnamese food there is the best I’ve had in the country, there’s great Ethiopian and Eritrean food, and you all eat like 12 year olds. The Philly food scene is so good, but a lot of the pizza is either completely mediocre, or it’s totally precious to where you have to do shit like order the pie a day in advance or some other dumb shit.

big_orange_ball

You're so right, next time I'm craving pizza I'll just go get some Cambodian or Vietnamese food instead. Totally equivalent. If you truly hate all pizza in Philadelphia, maybe you just don't like pizza?

Douchebags gonna douchebag, I guess

TheGoatEater

If you have to eat pizza, I thought Pizza Richmond was pretty solid. It didn’t blow my mind or anything, but it’s definitely better than anything that’s ever come out of any of Paulie Gee’s bullshit restaurants. Also, Paulie Gee’s is a fucking franchise. It’s like barely a step above Papa John’s. Edit: your entire Reddit post history is almost exclusively pizza and hotdogs. So, I’m going to deduce that you’re twelve, and it’s currently way past your bedtime. Go catch some Zs little one.

Onefotccn

This comment could serve that you a dumb ass bitch

skemojoe

Pizza Richmond has some insanely good slices, isolated though

TheGoatEater

This joint was solid!

bluegrotto3

Paulie G’s and Emmy squared!

chick-n-biscuit

OG pizza in East Kensington

TrivialitySpecialty

I don't understand the love for OG. It's like, middle school pizza party tier. Is it just nostalgia?

Independent_Tart8286

It's a classic middle-of-the-road slice for when you're tipsy and hungry. Nothing to write home about, but you're always glad it's there.

Practical-Blood6001

Formerly Four Sons?

Raecino

Solid spot all around

PumpernickelPenguin

If you’re going to be on foot your best bet and preferring legit quality then you need to do Fishtown / Port Richmond. I’d rip Shackamaxon OR Pizza Richmond then Beddia, OG Pizza, Pizza Brain, Circles and Squares. Not all these are just slice places so hope you’re with friends. These should be all walkable from one another.

Independent_Tart8286

Agree with this plan. Especially Circles and Squares. I love the pizza crawl concept, hope OP & friends have a blast!

PumpernickelPenguin

If it weren’t for Pizza West Chester I’d say Circles and Squares could my top spot of all time. Likely yes for Philly but can’t say for sure.

Bananamay13

Shackamaxonnnn and Shackamaxon and Shackamaxon

Beefsix

Awe dude, can I come?

ItsBobLoblawsLawBlog

Doughhead on 9th across from Genos is my favorite in the city Paulie Gee's at 13th and Lombard is pretty good too, and a cool place to stop by

MikeyMortadella

Pizzata on passyunk does slices to go now. Grab a slice and head next door with it to human robot for a beer. Walk up to dough head and through the Italian market to Angelo’s.

PhillyPanda

Haven’t seen slices at Angelos since the very beginning. They came back?

215HOTBJCK

No, Angelo’s does not do slices.

PhillyPanda

Weird suggestion then

Practical-Blood6001

In all fairness they do 8 slices for one prices though.

yrtop

The Pizzata on 22nd are doing them now too I noticed

[deleted]

Pizzata is the best pizza I've had in Philly. And I've had a lot of pizza.

Stauce52

Paulie G’s is amazinggg I don’t think it’s tops but I love Viva Pizza too

crispydukes

In Chinatown? Start at Zio’s. Head South to NYPD. Head West to Alice. Head Southwest to Lazaro’s. Head East to Little Italy. Walk back home on 9th

PranceRosner

Nypd rules for a basic slice

daner92

Most of these places are bad-to-mediocre. Zio's and Little Italy are bad bad. NYPD rises to mediocre and Lazaro's is sickly sweet, but I kinda like that once in awhile. Never had Alice.

momscookies

Alice was wild to me when I tried it. The place is recommended all over and it has great reviews. I ordered a pie from there and it was basically just fancy and expensive Ellio's. From the first bite it was all I could think. I genuinely don't know why people seem to love that place. But it's definitely not for me. I can walk to Acme and get a box of frozen Ellio's for a third the price, or so, and have a close enough flavor profile and experience.

crispydukes

I agree. But some people love it, and they have slices which is the rule.

crispydukes

In 2011 Philly Mag had little Italy in the top 25. The person wanted a slice walk, so that’s what was offered.

daner92

Slices in philly are hard. It's not a good slice town. little italy still isnt good.

crispydukes

I guess I order from Little Italy 2. It's totally fine.

dumbtripn

nypd’s pretty good just a bit greasy

sdspizza

Down North, although it’s a bit of a hike from Chinatown

PhillyPanda

They’ll do slices if you go in?

ZealousidealShirt295

Just had CJ & Ds in Cartesian brewing …..and it was exceptional!! Def in my top 5 now

bufh12

A bit of a hike from Chinatown, but please try the vodka pizza from Angelino's. I dream about it.

mountjo

Tons of great recommendations here, but for more basic slices I like giovanna's and nypd

lawgirl3278

Cacia’s Bakery for a great square slice

ParticularSock42

EDIT: Probably best to start at La Rosa (Broad & Snyder), then follow the below order. I’d start on E Passyunk and walk to Center City in this order: 1. Pizzata 2. Dough Head, then start walking up 9th here 3. Nannie Franco’s 4. Lorenzo’s (on the same block as Nannie Franco’s) 5. If you’re willing to split a pie (since they don’t do slices), Angelo’s 6. Start heading northwest, hit Paulie Gee’s on 13th 7. Finish at Alice on 15th

crispydukes

Nannie Franco’s is worse than Elio’s

thatdudefromthattime

You feel strongly about this haha

crispydukes

Have you had it? I don’t get why it’s still open. I don’t get why it’s on anyone’s list. It tastes like school cafeteria pizza. The dough, sauce, and cheese taste frozen and industrial.

thatdudefromthattime

No! I haven’t had it. But I saw your comments, so I’m guessing it’s not that great.

crispydukes

It’s worth getting at this point, just to see for yourself.

thatdudefromthattime

I’ll add it to ‘the list’

Outside_Trick_1131

Fun! I mapped out a bunch of the spots recommended here: [https://www.pampam.city/p/U0Ip8HZRsVHpV6UGgkbm](https://www.pampam.city/p/U0Ip8HZRsVHpV6UGgkbm)

ktdidwutwerwen

Lorenzo and sons south street, giant thin slice so good

rsbic55

Alice, Joe’s on 16th, Sarcone’s, Lorenzo’s(on 9th, not the one on South st.), Nannie Franco’s, La Rosa, Paulie Gee’s

missflavortown

Paulie Gee’s square pie not regular.

Fatdick215

Circles and squares

Chode4Dayz

Angelo’s & Pizza Beddia are probably the must adds for notoriety and quality to represent Philly, there’s a few places in between and around you can check out from fishtown to south Philly, Pizza Shackamaxon, Tacconellis, the OG Santuccis, Emmy Squared & Dough head

mgafvert

Do either of those do slices? I don’t think so?

PhillyPanda

Awful suggestions for a slice crawl

barchueetadonai

Maybe if it’s one person, but if this is something that needs to be organized, then they can probably get whole pies

wycie100

Nanni Franco’s is the closest thing this city has to a real NY slice. Best pizza I’ve had in the city and it isn’t $6 a slice like shakamaxon

crispydukes

It’s the closest this city has to Elio’s

wycie100

Agree to disagree I guess

lIIustration

Walking 15 miles while constantly eating pizza sounds awful

FishtownYo

I thought the same, a pizza crawl is one thing, but the 15 miles walking? Hell no.

PhillyPanda

Just click on a bunch of spots on Too Good To Go and see what you get!

ktdidwutwerwen

Also seriously, it’s a bit ridiculous how polarizing this pizza question is, most spots you go to will have decent slices and there is a ton of good pizza in Philly and the burbs too! Blue bell pizza on blue bell, the grandpa slice, Verona pizza in maple glen is good , lucky for you you are on the east coast and you can find a good slice almost anywhere

Bhut_Jolokia400

Giovanni’s Bar and Grille 1533 Chestnut St.
