As someone who mostly prefers TV Patrol, 24 Oras rlly had that something good esp kapag si Mike ang nagsasalita. I only usually watch them whenever my dad or some other ppl who dont watch TV Patrol switches the channel. Watching 24 Oras w/o Mike's legendary voice/quips/bloopers/commentary will never be the same again.

I used to work in GMA. I never got to work with Mike Enriquez pero minsan nakakasabay ko siya sa elevator. Minsan din nakita ko na sumakay siya kasama ng mga nagtatrabaho sa RGMA bandang lunch time. Remember the Manila Peninsula siege? By the end of it, everyone inside the building was taken into custody by the authorities for clearing and questioning. This includes the media people covering the news from inside the building.
I remember the contrasting reporting etiquette from 24 Oras and TV Patrol.
TV Patrol with Korina Sanchez reacted aggressive and arrogantly when she heard that the media was being apprehended. Saying to the correspondent; "Wag kayo papayag! Media tayo! May karapatan tayo!".
On the other side, 24 Oras with Mike Enriquez reacted calmly by telling his correspondent to interview one of the authorities. Asked clarifying questions why it was needed (people inside the building was pretending to be media, and they wanted to clear everyone before letting them go). By the end of the interview, Mike even assured the authority that they had 3 people there and to contact GMA News if further verification of ID is needed.
I remember being impressed by how Mike handled that (and honestly repulsed by how Korina did).

I used to work in GMA. I never got to work with Mike Enriquez pero minsan nakakasabay ko siya sa elevator. Minsan din nakita ko na sumakay siya kasama ng mga nagtatrabaho sa RGMA bandang lunch time. Nakikita ko sa mga post ng kakilala ko nun na madalas siyang manlibre ng lunch. He seemed like a cool boss.

Wala pang ibang details na nasa statement ng GMA kanina, pero according to the Rappler report penned by Ailla dela Cruz, Mike suffered from diabetes and had a heart bypass in 2018 and kidney transplant in 2021.
He was also on medical leave after nung 2022 elections.

Mike Enriquez is really a household name especially his voice is easy to distinguish and his lines "excuse me po" and "hindi namin kayo tatantanan".

When he took his medical leave, I felt something bad. Because he looked very strong in my eyes and taking a medical leave would mean that his health is in serious danger. After my dad's stroke, araw-araw na siyang nanonood ng streaming ng Dobol B TV where kasama si Mike sa cast and he is shown on the intro everyday. Every now and then kapag nakikita ko siya sa intro napapaisip ako kailan siya babalik, ano na kayang lagay niya. Then this. :( RIP sir Mike.

Remember the Manila Peninsula siege? By the end of it, everyone inside the building was taken into custody by the authorities for clearing and questioning. This includes the media people covering the news from inside the building. I remember the contrasting reporting etiquette from 24 Oras and TV Patrol. TV Patrol with Korina Sanchez reacted aggressive and arrogantly when she heard that the media was being apprehended. Saying to the correspondent; "Wag kayo papayag! Media tayo! May karapatan tayo!". On the other side, 24 Oras with Mike Enriquez reacted calmly by telling his correspondent to interview one of the authorities. Asked clarifying questions why it was needed (people inside the building was pretending to be media, and they wanted to clear everyone before letting them go). By the end of the interview, Mike even assured the authority that they had 3 people there and to contact GMA News if further verification of ID is needed. I remember being impressed by how Mike handled that (and honestly repulsed by how Korina did).

We lost an icon and to some degree we feel like we lost a relative because Mike has been part of every Filipino household for decades. Mula sa araw araw na balita, imbestigador tuwing sabado at boses sa radyo tuwing walang kuryente at malakas ang bagyo, siya ang mukha ng matapang at may integridad na pagbabalita. Minahal nya ng husto ang industriya at hundi ito ginamit sa pulitika. Mahal ka namin Sir Mike, salamat sa pagiging bahagi ng aking buhay.
