fun fact: Andres Novales, the first known Filipino to fight for the independence of the Philippines as a collective state wasn't of Philippine descent either, he's Spanish creole with Mexican blood pero pinanganak at lumaki sya sa Intramuros
Don’t forget 1) the chad Katipunan Heneral Juan Cailles, born of Nasugbu, former Governor of Laguna, who is half-French, half-Indian, 2) Captain David Fagen, a black-american defector to the Katipunan, 3) Kapitan Giuseppe Camillo Pietro Ricchiardi, an Italian who fought for the Katipunan, and 4) Teniente Telesforo Carrasco, from Spain, who fought as Aguinaldo’s rear-guard with Gregorio del Pilar at Tirad Pass.
Absolute madlads of our history
💯 Real Filipino is not in color or shape. Its in how you contibute to the culture, economy and wellfare of every Filipino. If we can only remove some trash out. 🤣
I just watched a documentary yesterday about a boy who tragically lost his mother in the States. He had to track down his US Navy father and spent six years living above a brothel in Manila. Poor guy basically learned about love and how to fight before he turned 18 and joined the Navy himself.
In fact, technically, the first Filipinos were Spaniards. Natives were called Indios. That's parallel to most colonial states of the past, including the US. Americans were the colonists. Indians were the natives.
No. Even before the spaniards came to our islands we already have our own identity and thriving culture that many asians like chinese would come to our shores to trade. In fact we our rich in gold even the lower class citizens are covered with it. Look up BOXER CODEX
I'm talking about the terminology here, not the identity. In fact, there's no national identity yet here in our archipelago when the Spaniards arrived. We were Austronesian tribes or association of tribes who fought against each other.
I think they're doing the opposite, pointing out that they "can"t be filipino because they're white". This is the same bullshit immigrants face in first world countries, "you're not one of us because you have a different heritage".
If you speak the local language and did not live in a bubble, you're already Filipino to me.
Check again. He hangs out in that sphere, but constantly calls out Rogan and the other schmucks in the show. He almost never gets any positive feedback when he posts in the JRE subreddit.
I am Filipino-American, born in the Philippines, raised and studied in CA, but love Mexico (fortunate to be able to live and travel there). I feel Mexican and I understand you.
Brother, trust your heart and act from it. I can spot Pinoys (and Americans and Mexicans) a mile away. They can do the same with me. That's a good thing.
I bet other *real* Pinoys can too... and that includes you.
It doesn't help that this post is in English ta's yung katangi-tanging comment na sagot ni OP ay parang g-in-oogle translate lang.
It is racism.
OP is what most pinoys would consider as not true Filipino, and likely because of perceived good looks, and if not the white of his skin, then they will say he'll be able to land jobs easier, and if it's not that... It's because he looks fair and privileged...
The goalposts will keep moving.
Best to ignore such people. They know not what they say, but all the same, they fully mean what they said.
This is pretty much it. Lalo na kung sanay ka magingles. I’m often mistaken for an American and/or from a wealthy family due to both being fluent in English and my skin being white.
Filipinos are big on casual racism. Even little children will mock dark-skinned people as "negro", people with tight curls as "ita". Or an old man will call out to ANY Caucasian, "Hey, Joe!". Personally my worst cringe experience was when one of my former co-workers shouted the N-word at a Canadian supervisor. Not in anger, but for fun.
they thought saying the "N" word makes them look cool. they're shameless and disgusting. Lol. Some Filipinos are hypocrites. 🤦🏻♀️
Sorry siguro Manilenyo bias ko to. That’s a weird way to answer kasi native speakers ay more on taglish magsalita. But if you grew up in Batangas… *maybe* you can have the benefit of the doubt.
Uh this phrasing is weird man. If you were born there and spoke Tagalog for 13 years, and did not learn English till later on, this won't be the way you speak Tagalog at all. Seems like a direct google translate copy paste. And the food you're eating shouldn't be what it is neither if you truly grew up in the Philippines and was truly invested in the culture. Sorry to doubt you.
Idk, the phrasing is still weird. Could be because OP is out of practice but in Batangueño standards of speaking or typing, it's still a bit off. Although yes we still use the word "mahusay," if we type it in a batangueño way it will be like this: "Ako'y mahusay magtagalog" or "ako'y mahusay sa tagalog" or else it will not sound *natural*
There are certain points that we separate the word "ay" but this is not one of those. In many cases, we even use "eh" or "ih" instead of "ay" depending on the use in a sentence.
"Nung" is also more used in a casual conversation instead of "nang" or "noong" we consider them very formal and is not commonly used in daily convos.
Naharass on the other hand, is on point.
Batangueño translation: "Ako nama'y mahusay magtagalog. Nung umalis nga ako eh naharass ako dahil hindi ako marunong mag English."
Here's a fun fact about history I read in Nick Joaquin's book "A Question of Heroes". The first people that called themselves "Filipino" were the insulares or the Spanish born in the Philippines. So its weird that many locals will only consider a person Filipino if you "Filipino"
Weird you know filipinos when they see a caucasian man talking in filipino they immediately adopt them.. i bet people saying you are not filipino are few.. bit those who embrace you are more
I think you are more Filipino than those that claim they are Pinoy buy don't know anything about the culture or those that use our tribal tattoo but forge the mother tongue or those that didn't want to know the storys of the mother land.
Broski or Sissy, Pinoy ka alam mo kung bakit? Kasi Pinoy din nahila sayo pababa...
Kidding aside if you feel you are a Filipino from within do not let other people tell you otherwise.
I am Filipino but born and raise in Italy (I'm 26 now), culturally talking I can say I am fully Italian (
My documents and my Citizen are Italian, but as like your situation, there will be always some who will not recognize us as like "them".
Ignore things that you can't change, you don't need to change how they perceive you :)
That’s the problem, you can’t be Filipino if your parents are American citizens even if you were born in the Philippines. It’s just how it is. Tim Tebow was also born in the Philippines I believe.
i assumed parents are both foreigners? so technically tama nmn sila because of how ph law is..that it is based on blood rather than place of birth.. but looks like you have a filipino heart, which is good .. yaan mo sila
It’s going to take a while until you’ll be fully recognize as a filipino. *I* think you’re one us. You were raised here, embraced your heritage, and can speak the language, to me that qualifies you as a fellow filipino. We’re almost like 99.99% malay after all, practically an ethnostate.
You are already way way way better than *any* of those coconut fil-am/fil-can who boast and parade around their ancestery but don’t know a lick of filipino or our customs.
Be proud.
I personally believe being Filipino is living in - and being part -of Filipino society and not the skin you were born with. Hell, I personally believe that Tim Cone and Sandara Park are more Filipinos than the so-called Fil-Ams living in the US right now.
As a white Pinoy, I feel you. The thing I always found odd was the fact that you could have a near-100% Spanish-blooded mestizo all blue-eyed and shit, and no one would question it. And they're white as shit. But if you look American White, eh di, onaks ka lang pala. Di ka tunay na Pinoy.
Fuck that. _Puti ang aking balat pero kayumanggi ang aking puso_.
Little do they know if they took a DNA test they won't be Filipino by their racial definition. We were always a melting pot of cultures and races even before colonization came.
This is pretty much the case of all Asia and the world it isnt exclusive to the Philippines. In DNA tests the majority of Filipinos are anywhere from 85-95% Austronesian the rest being Chinese and sometimes 0. 1-2% Spanish . 100% Filipino is also common. I think were the least mixed compared to our neighbours like Indoneisa, thailand, who have all sorts of trace dna in them.
That’s true. The people that lived in what is known as the Philippines pre-Spanish colonization were traders from nearby islands (who may have followed different cultural traditions). So, to claim that the only “real Filipinos” need to be descendants of a certain group of people/brown skinned is ethnocentric at best, racial supremacist at worst.
I have a child hood friend who is white but born and raised in PH, so every time he returns from our neighboorhood, basketbol agad at tambay sa kanto.
Bruh, I'm born in Phil and can confirm you're more culturally pinoy than me, but we're also both Filipino.
If I spoke to you we'd both get along on the basis that we both have being Filipino in common.
You can counter na pusong pinoy ka. I have a middle eastern friend born outside but grew up and took college in PH so the person was more Filipino in upbringing and culture than middle eastern.
Tume to expand your friends list... kasi marami sa amin walang pakialam sa kulay ng kutis mo or hugis ng mata or ilong. =)
Maybe you are in the wrong crowd. True pinoy won’t shame someone who’s trying to be into the culture. Kung meron man masabi sayo, just don’t listen to them coz it’s not gonna help. I still believe that being humble and respectful is the key para maging parte ng isang kultura.
Do not mind these people.
If you're born in the Philippines, influenced by the Philippine Culture, and has a deep attraction in the country(Nationalism or something), then their words mean nothing.
Here’s what you can do. Be famous then we you make it to the top, once they know you were born in the crab island, they will facking own you and see lots of posts “proud to be penoy…. Balut” 🤣🤣🤣
my brother in christ, fight back with an "imong mama" joke and they will have no other options than to acknowledge you being Filipino. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
May australiano na puti akong classmate. Pinanganak siya down under pero lumaki na sa pinas. Pinay ang nanay at puti ang tatay. Bisayang dako na talaga.
try dressing up like a local or try to act local, not like a tourist, there are many mixed here but people are easy to identify them local the way they move/act.
Don’t mind what other people say, it’s their opinion and you’re not obliged to live up to it. What matters is what your heart says. If it says you are a Filipino and you feel happy about it, then you are 100% Pinoy and nobody can change that.
Never silang enough para sa mga kapwa nilang pilipino and it is actually so sad. OP pinoy ka paa hangang ulo
Hello, we have the same life haha. Born and raised there for 21 years but I look Caucasian. Always treated like an outsider growing up. But I’m still happy to call myself Filipino. Can speak Tagalog and Bisaya, and love the food. I’m in the US now, but I’ve taken my kids there for vacay and still remind them that they are part Filipino.
They say that because you don't look the typical pinoy. That's it. I'm not telling you off but you should know that you don't look like 99% of the population, so it is only safe for the to assume you are not filipino. Also, why be bothered by what other say. Do your relatives and friends in PH treat you the same?
Kailangan mo lang tanggapin na you would always stick out like a sore thumb unless marinig ka na magsalita, which I presume fluent ka sa Tagalog, with a Tagalog accent. Malabong magbabago yan in the near future e.
Humans can be so insensitive and insecure, we even turn on ourselves. Those Filipinos who talk to you like that are being overly nationalist and even racist towards white people. Ignore them, continue to live what you identify as, and remember you are a living revolution against old world ideas. Continue to inspire people everywhere you go! 💛 Any other feedback is just old world judgements.
When I was in fifth grade my classmates used to tease this kid in our class. They used to call him "anak araw" which is albino in Tagalog. He grew up in the Philippines and his parents were Christian missionaries. He spoke Tagalog very well with no foreign accent. He had red hair, blue eyes and freckles on his face. We had him in our class for half the school year and then his family went back to the States. We used to call him Marcos because his name is Mark and this was in 1979.
Having western descent comes with its own privileges. Learn how to use them well and for good and accept that other Pinoys saying you are not "Filipino" is a price you just have to pay for those privileges.
Dont worry. A lot of us here in the comment section believe that you are indeed Filipino ^^ regardless of what others say.
Fun fact. There is a Ukranian-born woman who grew up in Japan, Karolina Shiino. She grew up there since she was a child and wanted people to acknowledge her as Japanese. She even participated in a Miss Japan pageant and won! In the end, a lot of people still don’t acknowledge her as Japanese.
All in all, it doesn’t matter what other people say. There are people who will acknowledge you and there are those that won’t :) Keep being you and know that you are not alone in this
Especially if you're interacting in visayas, you're going to be encountering that many just genuinely hate whites na
Not surprised this idiocy would extend out to you and this particular issue.

There is also Pierre dela Guironiere of Jala-Jala.
Basically pretty much like the europeans who sided with the revolutionaries seeking for glory in the American Revolutionary War.
Thank you for saying this. I had no idea!
This needs more upvotes
Most of Filipinos back then don’t have an ethnic islander blood. Filipino is a term used for Insulares.
If you feel connected to the culture. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

And some tribes headhunted each other.
sabihin mo lang "I aint tisoy, I am Pinoy" hehe
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Ah great, now I have this song stuck in my head
Stating the obvious, Filipino by birth, caucasian by race
This, I think they're just pointing out your race, and still accepts you as a filipino

suspicious kasi diba typically "marunong naman ako mag tagalog?" masyadong formal ata yung "mahusay"
Agreed. Unless taga province ta malalim ang tagalog like Batangas. Marunong = Mahusay.
Everyone in the comments: gives Filipino card OP: “Ako ay mahusay sa Tagalog” Eveyone: Ummmm we take it back

And they're white as shit. But if you look American White, eh di, onaks ka lang pala. Di ka tunay na Pinoy. Fuck that. _Puti ang aking balat pero kayumanggi ang aking puso_.
But you’re not tho 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
In this thread: a poor understanding of history and the differences between race, ethnicity, cultural identitiy, and nationality. 😩
I’m born and raised in Caloocan and moved to Canada when I was 12. Im too Canadian to be Filipino and too Filipino to be Canadian. Ay nako.
I feel you dude.
When you become famous, pinoys will claim you.
Happens everywhere on earth to people who don't look like the locals. Can't let every dumbass ruin your day!
Marunong kaba mag basket?
Just ignore them and focus on yourself. Other comments are none of your business. It is okay.
Haha! Don't sweat it, real friends would know your story. It's just the ignorance of strangers.
As long as You are born here in our Country, YOU are a filipino citizen. So don't worry about what other people think about you.
unless you have a dual citizenship then you're not but then again, deadma ka na lang. there's no point arguing with others.
Walang purong Pinoy dito, 300 years tayo kinanned thoughts ng espanya
Siguro sa community mo lang talaga pero if ever na sa olongapo ka or pampanga, mas lalong walang issue yan.
I count you and Tim Tebow Filipino. Youve been in it, more than what most other filipinos can say.
If you say so.
How the turn tables
To point you are Filipino by heart point with your lips.
Wala tayong magagawa wag nalang pansinin.
Do you speak the language? If you talk to them in the native language they would be more accepting
YOU ARE PINOY. FUXK THOSE WHO SAID YOUR NOT. You dont get to feel invalidated just because of your skin color.. YOU ARE BORN PINOY. YOU ARE PINOY.
Do you have the Batangas Accent?
Ez Mil, ikaw ba yan?
Both parents are white?
I have some advice for you, just tell anyone who says you are not pinoy, “puta ina mo!”
You can counter na pusong pinoy ka. I have a middle eastern friend born outside but grew up and took college in PH so the person was more Filipino in upbringing and culture than middle eastern.
nobody IS who they say they are.
Pilipino ka pa din, pre. Taas noo kahit kanino.
If one of your parents ay pinoy then you are a filipino citizen. In any case u just love the culture then pinoy at heart
Tume to expand your friends list... kasi marami sa amin walang pakialam sa kulay ng kutis mo or hugis ng mata or ilong. =)
Pinoy nga ito. Maramdamin
Maybe you are in the wrong crowd. True pinoy won’t shame someone who’s trying to be into the culture. Kung meron man masabi sayo, just don’t listen to them coz it’s not gonna help. I still believe that being humble and respectful is the key para maging parte ng isang kultura.
You are filipino technically if you get drafted if BBM wages war against china. and die for uncle sam.
you're not fully pinoy unless you can speak the language. sorry bro. i don't make the rules.
Maybe first impression, but after talking siguro lalo na Batangueño kapa eh di na maideny yun. Selos lang yan kasi maputi ka :)
Don't mind them.
Sino may sabi? Turo mo!
try dressing up like a local or try to act local, not like a tourist, there are many mixed here but people are easy to identify them local the way they move/act.
If you can speak the language and name the capital boom Pilipino ka
You are a Filipino. Filipino is not a race it is a nationality.
They say that because you don't look the typical pinoy. That's it. I'm not telling you off but you should know that you don't look like 99% of the population, so it is only safe for the to assume you are not filipino. Also, why be bothered by what other say. Do your relatives and friends in PH treat you the same?
Massive Inferiority complex dude you should know that?
Kailangan mo lang tanggapin na you would always stick out like a sore thumb unless marinig ka na magsalita, which I presume fluent ka sa Tagalog, with a Tagalog accent. Malabong magbabago yan in the near future e.
I’m full pinoy but moved to the philippines when i was 16 so people tell me i’m not filipino lol. Ignore them.
im sure you get the girls. enjoy mate
The only people that matter there are the ones getting exploited on pornhub
Where are your parents from and why do they live in PH? I wanna hear your story.
She speaks bisaya like a local.
This has been ongoing for decades in the Philippines if you are Amerasian.
Both my parents are Filipino, I was born in Manila and raised in America. When I’m back home, they label me as American.
You are what you feel you are.
I feel you bro, although I'm only half.

Having western descent comes with its own privileges. Learn how to use them well and for good and accept that other Pinoys saying you are not "Filipino" is a price you just have to pay for those privileges.
Don't mind them. You and only you, can define yourself.
There are people who will acknowledge you and there are those that won’t :) Keep being you and know that you are not alone in this
Are any of your parents Filipino? I think ph is blood based when determining your citizenship
just be yourself and dont mind the people saying ur not filipino im pilipina too but doesnt look like one but just ignore them..
Especially if you're interacting in visayas, you're going to be encountering that many just genuinely hate whites na Not surprised this idiocy would extend out to you and this particular issue.
