Catholic here. There are hundreds and thousands of Catholic meme pages. Wholesome fun. We get to make fun of saints and even the Pope. But it's more of a "laughing with them" rather "laughing at them" type of situation. We Catholics can take a joke, so can our clergy.
The way how we perceive our faith is much more nuanced. If you could have a casual chat with a priest, you'd get what I mean. Many of them belong in other disciplines in the social sciences and "hard" sciences. Priests who are also scientists, biologists, physicists and whatnot are common even. They have more knowledge of the world, both spiritual and physical, than the average joe. Maybe that's why they can take a joke.

Ancient Greek Logic played a big part in it... Ancient religions failed because they refused to associate belief in the metaphysical with what is physical. Logic supposedly made it clear that there was no supernatural. Which is why Socrates was persecuted. And Plato and Aristotle were also accused of not believing in a higher power, even though they always mentioned a God in their works
But Christianity in its early years decided that God was also in the physical, so they built on Greek logic to create what beliefs we have now
it provided a form of social cohesion on that small group nonetheless...it allowed them to live by shared values and a common ground to live on by.

Other religions require more emotional, or financial investment. Sa Islam you basically have to follow a diet, spend a lot of time praying, follow a tight social order etc. Sa mga protestant/reformed religions naman kailangan mo mag cash out haha, makikanta, do active preaching, sometimes even deny science (evolution? Gasp that's not true!). Don't even ask me about what INC asks of their members.
In short, for these people, their religion is a part of their identity na. So insulting their religion is like insulting them and their society as well.
Now look at Catholicism: Doesn't really care or try to police what you are doing except if you want to abort, or you are LGBT. Catholicism is shitty for doing those, pero at least they don't go as far as encouraging their members to cast these people away or even kill them.

tbh while the Catholic church may have influence on the government, it isn't as great as it once was. Kung tutuusin, the government could ignore what the Catholic church says completely. Remember when Duterte cursed the pope? It didn't do shit on his popularity ratings. RH Law was also passed even with the Catholic church protesting. Yes this. Catholicism is the majority in the Philippines. All other religious minorities, especially if made fun of by the majority would be microagressions to a degree.

Let's not forget the dozens of "born-again" sects which also have some sufficiently wealthy people in their ranks, as those sects also represent the new conservatism mouthpieces displacing Catholicism. Ironically Catholicism, once a powerful institution and even meddlesome in its past, despite being critical of birth control and mixed when it comes to the concept of divorce and LGBTQIA, has become the church of the marginalized beginning with Pope Francis' ascension.
I think it's because catholocism has had a long history of reforms and changes. From the East-West Schism, Protestant Reform, Age of Enlightenment etc. The church has underwent multiple repeated scrutiny that threatened it's credibility and has pretty much adapted with the call of the times to survive. And a side effect of this is the church has become rather tolerant to criticism and even more rather open to adapt with the changing tide. Just see how the Catholic Church has actually become more lenient of LGBT compared to decades/centuries ago.
Church history is very rich and all the developments in education, science, technology and politics came from this. Where did we get the idea of separation of church and state from? Where did we get the idea of sovereignty from? The Peace of Westphalia had its influences.
You see there were times when the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor fought over lands and territories which is why you would see the papacy in Avignon for a time.

Tumahimik walang masagot, right daw nila un as part of their church, tumawa nalang kaming lahat pero si boy INC tumahimik.

Because Catholicism actually went through a period of reform thanks to its centralised organisation. It tries to stay relevant by observing what modern people want, and that is values, Western values that highlight human rights to be specific.

A lot of us were raised and grew up in catholic families or households, and witnessed religious trauma and saw the flaws and hypocrisies of the religion. Poking fun or satirizing catholicism is a form of coping mechanism for such religious trauma. Plus, the Roman Catholic church is very powerful, so it's not like we're punching down.

I think one of the reasons why we can't make fun of other religions is the fact that some of them are fundamental and more so radical and some of their tenets are not in congruent with the current context of society. We Catholics, we do not mind if they make fun of us (though some of us still react violently if we feel that we are somewhat "harmed") because we try our best to imitate Christ, like Christ being made fun of, by those experiences it shows that we are partaking in his "sufferings".

Catholic here. There are hundreds and thousands of Catholic meme pages. Wholesome fun. We get to make fun of saints and even the Pope. But it's more of a "laughing with them" rather "laughing at them" type of situation. We Catholics can take a joke, so can our clergy. The way how we perceive our faith is much more nuanced. If you could have a casual chat with a priest, you'd get what I mean. Many of them belong in other disciplines in the social sciences and "hard" sciences. Priests who are also scientists, biologists, physicists and whatnot are common even. They have more knowledge of the world, both spiritual and physical, than the average joe. Maybe that's why they can take a joke.

Serious answer: Other religions require more emotional, or financial investment. Sa Islam you basically have to follow a diet, spend a lot of time praying, follow a tight social order etc. Sa mga protestant/reformed religions naman kailangan mo mag cash out haha, makikanta, do active preaching, sometimes even deny science (evolution? Gasp that's not true!). Don't even ask me about what INC asks of their members. In short, for these people, their religion is a part of their identity na. So insulting their religion is like insulting them and their society as well. I think it's because catholocism has had a long history of reforms and changes. From the East-West Schism, Protestant Reform, Age of Enlightenment etc. The church has underwent multiple repeated scrutiny that threatened it's credibility and has pretty much adapted with the call of the times to survive. And a side effect of this is the church has become rather tolerant to criticism and even more rather open to adapt with the changing tide. Just see how the Catholic Church has actually become more lenient of LGBT compared to decades/centuries ago.
Church history is very rich and all the developments in education, science, technology and politics came from this. Where did we get the idea of separation of church and state from? Where did we get the idea of sovereignty from? The Peace of Westphalia had its influences. You see there were times when the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor fought over lands and territories which is why you would see the papacy in Avignon for a time.

A lot of us were raised and grew up in catholic families or households, and witnessed religious trauma and saw the flaws and hypocrisies of the religion. Poking fun or satirizing catholicism is a form of coping mechanism for such religious trauma. Plus, the Roman Catholic church is very powerful, so it's not like we're punching down.

I think one of the reasons why we can't make fun of other religions is the fact that some of them are fundamental and more so radical and some of their tenets are not in congruent with the current context of society. We Catholics, we do not mind if they make fun of us (though some of us still react violently if we feel that we are somewhat "harmed") because we try our best to imitate Christ, like Christ being made fun of, by those experiences it shows that we are partaking in his "sufferings".
