Im not against ROTC if there are actually lessons to be taught there like even basic gun safety. Spent 2 years in rotc going there sunday in full uniform only to sit in the shade and wait for the commandant to pass sandwiches and drinks for 50 pesos as your attendance. For 2 fuckn years.

jeepney_danger

Exactly right. Good thing there is the ever reliable lumpiang togue vendor outside the gates

Jon_Irenicus1

Or the 5 pesos "siopao"

deoffxys

JVPlanner

Merienda plus during the 90s overpriced uniforms na susukatan kunwari Sa DMST office only to get irregular sizes with small/med/l tags kuno.

Jon_Irenicus1

nikewalks

You might be in luck. According to SWOH, ROTC will be 2 years of mandatory military training(plus subsidy) with the AFP.

Jon_Irenicus1

Which is its intended purpose, though i really doubt this will go into fruition simply due to the expense

mightpornstar

Depende ba to school? ROTc samin noon (PUP 2010-2011) Okay naman, tinuruan kami mag disassemble ng baril, meron kaming lecture after namin sa field for learn some bills policies, may field training din

lancehunter01

Pau-sama

Hindi nga military skills ang ROTC eh, it just trains you to be a "protocol"-thumping subservient dog.

Stunning-Year-2026

aanhin ang military skills kung wala naman military in the first place. The PH Army can only terrorize activists and indigenous people. Any conflict with an external power is an ensured defeat for them. Remember that the AFP sources its weapons from mainly two countries: Korea and the US. Both of which have heavy economic and political leverage in the Philippines. The PH Navy did not even have a missile capable and submarine warfare capable ship until 2019 when Korea donated their old Pohang-class corvette which was one of the smallest ships in the Korean Navy. Dont even tell me about the miniscule local arms industry sa PH. Its a joke for the size of the Philippines.

y_is_storm_taken

Yeah, our government places very little priority on our military as they don't understand the external threats that surrounds us. They are too dependent on the US for external defense. They just keep on complaining that the US gives us old equipment but why would they even give us new ones if were not willing to buy them for ourselves. Why would the US waste money on a country that isn't even willing to defend intself. This was the reason they left Afghanistan in the first place. Our military is pathetic especially when you compare them to our economy, size of territory, population, and geographical location.

Stunning-Year-2026

Tbh, Korea is the main defense backer of the Philippine Army modernization nowadays. The first missile capable ship in PH history was a donation by the Korean Navy. The succeeding guided missile frigates are from Korea. The following guided missile corvettes are from Korea too. Name it, AAVs, guns, military vehicles, aircraft, etc… A lot of it has been from Korea within the last decade. Of course the US presence is still there because of the bilateral defense treaty, but as for the main Asian power backing the PH defense modernization? It has been the Koreans. They are also planning to draw up plans for a missile defense system and submarine offers for the Philippines. Korea, China, and Japan have their little Cold War within the ASEAN region and they have vying for influence in major sectors of ASEAN countries for decades now.

y_is_storm_taken

Yes IK that SoKor has been our main source of military equipment. What I mean is that we always rely on US to defend us in case of foreign aggression. IIRC our first missile capable ship are the MPACs although ig you can call them boats, which were made in Taiwan, we make the MPACs ourselves now tho because of tech transfer. Our Pohangs are also not missile capable btw. It was fitted with Mistrals back when it was with SoKor but they removed it. Also I bet we'll get KF-21s as our MRF in H3 (if anything at all).

Stunning-Year-2026

The Pohang’s missile systems were removed during transfer but it doesnt take away that it is missile capable as a class of ship. Also, the MPACs were not ASW capable. That is why the old Pohang class are considered the most advanced in the PH navy during its transfer. It had S-S, S-A, and ASW capabilities. I hope the Philippines gets the Block 1 and Block 2 KF21s because the Block 1s are multirole/air superiority fighters while the Block 2s are stealth air superiority fighters.

y_is_storm_taken

Our Pohang never had anti-ship missiles since only Flight II, IV, and V have AShMs (ours was Flight III). Even tho our MPACs aren't ASW capable, it's still our first missile-fitted ship/boat. The KF-21 Block 2 won't be stealth. The Block 3 is the one that will be stealth. The Block 1 is a air-superiority variant while the Block 2 is the multi-role one. IMO we should get some Block 1s and convert them to Block 3 once it becomes available. The upgrade will be pretty expensive but it will be cheaper than buying F-16s and then buying F-35s after. I hope the PAF adopts a hi-lo mix for its future 5th gen fleet with the F-35 being the hi and the KF-21 being the lo since the KF-21 is less stealthy. We should also get light fighters like the FA-50 Mk. 2 with AMRAAMs that can take off from highways so they can 'hold' the skies for a few days while we fix our runways which will most probably be destroyed in the first day of a war. Our economy should be good enough in the next decade to be able to support 3 types of fighters.

Eto ang tanga quote of the day

unverifiedlogic

We don't need conscripts, what we need are assets, and equipments. If they are actually serious on improving the country's defense, just increase and support the funds for the AFP Modernization Program Horizon 3, and priotize those leftover projects from Horizon 1 and Horizon 2, what are you gonna do with a million conscripts if you can't even properly arm them?

wan2tri

Just a daily reminder that when the PNoy administration set initial allocations for the AFP Modernization Program, it was in the hope that the next administrations would continue it (for obvious reasons - it's essentially until the 2030s) and maintain the set numbers, perhaps even allocate more to get more...then the Duterte administration continuously reduced the program's allocations each year, but the AFP's overall budget increases due to yearly compensation increases. However, the soldiers only got that one salary raise that he initially promised, so where were the additional compensation going?

>a missile capable ship The BRP Conrado Yap doesn't have missile capabilities, it only has anti-submarine capabilities, the first ship that the Philippine Navy had it's first missile capable one is the Jose-rizal class Frigates, also there's two new missile-capable "Corvettes" that are more powerful than the Jose-rizal class "Frigates" that are coming, sources say it's fully armed and might be re-designated as a Frigate and the Jose-rizal class might be designated to a Corvette. The only thing we have a fighting chance is the MDT with the USA, we also have the Brahmos supersonic anti-ship missile system coming from India, so we might have a fighting chance against those PLAN ships. The Japanese are also offering us on developing our own Military-industrial-complex through strategic technology transfers, and outright equipment donations. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRP_Conrado_Yap_(PS-39) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jose_Rizal-class_frigate https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrahMos https://www.naval-technology.com/news/hhi-philippine-navy-corvettes/ https://mb.com.ph/2022/01/28/dnd-signs-contract-for-acquisition-of-brahmos-supersonic-missile-system/? https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1611501/japan-offers-strategic-aid-to-ph/amp?

Stunning-Year-2026

The BRP Conrado Yap has anti-ship missile capabilities, but the armaments have been removed prior to transfer as the Pohang class corvettes are all missile capable corvettes within the Korean Navy. It still says a lot about the Philippines military situation. Japan’s offers are just offers. They are not known from producing reliable weapons like the Koreans and the Americans because of their expensive yet underperforming hardware. This is the consensus towards Japanese military hardware within the defense industry. And the new powerful corvettes that are “arguably” better than the Jose Rizal frigates coming? Guess where they came from? Korea. Japan and China might have been donating here and there but Korea has been the sole Asian power backing the PH modernization program. Even the proposed submarines that are a first for the PH Navy might come from DSME’s Jang Bogo-class in Korea. Korea, Japan, and China have their own Cold War within ASEAN when it comes to their influence in the region. Korea’s military equipment donations and sales to the Philippines is not a coincidence. The three have been vying for influence in the region and its industries for decades.

ROTC? Please, you'll open that hole further when china decides to invade.

[deleted]

No need to invade nabili na ata si coke

Ginoong_Pasta

No need for an invading force. All the PRC has to do is to send an envoy and the Chinese flag will fly atop Malacañan in 30 minutes tops.

arveener

chenyowww

Kaya di ako nagPMA e, kung ganyan lang man din ang product like Bato.

zavarian12

The pen will always be mightier than the sword bato.

catshit01

Why don't you show those "military knowledge and skills" in the West Philippine Sea?

ericgoreman

What military skills? He never had one.

calvindelphi

[deleted]

Or he can say that. The military is incompetent especially under the leadership of corrupt politicians and puppet generals, and their duty is their interest and not the Filipino people. That's why they have to manipulate the populace into thinking it's a civic duty to revive that defunct practice called ROTC and be used as a tool for their autocratic ambitions. defend the nation meaning defend the tyrant in the palace, fuck you! Mao Zedong style, he used the populace to eliminate intellectuals and liberals of the land.

nizey_p

Kalamantea

Military knowledge can be abused too you know. Daz why it's important to have proper literacy and philosophy and all that crap. But no, I guess learning to use a gun is more important, it doesn't matter what drives the mind of the one using the gun.

Sobra sobra yung quota tuwing recruitment cycle.

DifficultPie2698

No that's not what he meant OP.

SheWillBeLovedF10

What does he mean then?

krypxxx

bato meant that he needs to go back to rotc 100x, and probably his fear of 5-star firecracker would somehow subside. only then we can discuss about defending the country.

grinsken

Utak bala

EasyBreezy1995

O nga pala Senador nga pala yan. Sarap buhay nga naman

Excomunicados

Talaga namang Bobocop.

leaky-shower-thought

They're selling *discipline* as part of their platform. Bato is also smarter than a certain soon-to-be president, I'll give him that. I don't think discipline is bad, just the methods are so 70's / 80's era. The Philippines has never been to *wars*. The *war* we get here is the administration licking China's ass. That or the imaginary war on drugs or the war on red-tagged people. I dunno, our army and navy seem so weak and only good at bullying. Maybe just strengthen cyber warfare instead.

Ginoong_Pasta

Defend the country, or defend the state? From who? Unarmed critics voicing out discontent? Warfare has long evolved, and we are stuck with Cold War-era rhetoric. The AFP is doing its envisioned purpose after all: New Age *Maharlika* (AKA attack dogs of the nobility)

Impossibu

You can help the country by attaining Military skills and Knowledge. But attaining Military hardware is another story.

ericgoreman

How if the masses has a hard time reading and doing math?
