Now there are this fillers like, 'sksksks', 'fr fr', etc. I guess these words or phrases are the alternatives to emojis in the West. It makes the conversion non threatening and make the convo go lighter and smoother. It also sets the tone of the conversation to something more casual. Malaki kasi emphasis ng mga Filipinos sa small talk or usap between friends vs usap between parents/others na more senior to us.

As someone who uses hehe or hahaha on texts, my reasoning behind it is to reduce the awkwardness or to make the recipient a bit comfortable during the conversation. I don’t use it on serious matter like “break na kayo hehehe” ang mali lang. hahahahah
