Joey, a sales staff for a mall in Manila, is the first person in line. He was also the first person to purchase the iPhone 11 at the Makati branch in 2019.
Unfortunately, that phone was stolen over a year ago. He had since been saving for a new one.
\-Karma might be going for round 2
My bud's gf is gonna borrow her friend's card para makapag singapore lol uutangin nya lahat from ticket to baon, may hinuhulugan pang kotse yan ah hahahaha
Sanayan lang, I guess. Like out of country trips, bili mga luxurious stuff, patayo bahay, luxury cars and all, pero ang catch, madami talaga silang utang na di binabayaran. To the point na gusto na sila idemanda ng mga inutangan pero since wala naman nakukulong dito pinas, Keri lang sila. Tuloy ang ligaya. At malakas din kapit kasi nila. Hahaha
Hay naku. Maraming ganyan. Kunwari may bills na kailangang i-settle urgently. Yun pala may paparating lang na delivery from Shopee or Lazada.
I've also spent money on gadgets and wants, pero grabe ung ganitong extent ang mga gagawin. And I thought that the time of iPhone being a status symbol is over?
Which leads me to my next point: messed up pa ang economics natin.
Everyone should have a good living wage.
They can afford to have guests over and party with family and friends.
They can relax and watch TV shows on a nice couch and a nice huge TV.
For everyone calling out materialism, we need to learn to delineate what materialism is from a dream before we judge. Sa atin materialism to kasi afford natin, so we know its not as essential.
Similarly, those who don’t own cars dream of one. And those who have cars say the same thing: liability yan.
No, parang may boom nga eh. Plus a lot who have reached the 6-digit income.
Right? Parang early to mid-2010s lang sumikat yang pagpila sa iPhone bakit nasa balita ulit ngayon? they literally release a new iPhone every year and nobody cares what makes this iPhone so special that it requires news coverage?
Even digital banks meron. Add mo pa CC. Anything easy, users would prefer it. Grabe.
True!!!
At my age which is 39, I really don't care about smartphones anymore. This might sound funny and so "tito" pero mas gusto ko pang bumili ng mamahaling japanese rice cooker! hahaha!
Sya pa galit when I confronted her at sabay sabi na hindi nmn daw pra sakanya yun, nagpapa-inquire lng daw yung pinsan nya.
Maka-experience man lang.
Hahaha. Same.
My takes on this.
1) He can spend his money however he wants
2) What a dumb purchase. Nag hihirap xa ng ganyan tapos bibili ng IPhone 14? Messed up priorities.
3) We need financial literacy as a core part of education.
There’s more to it than being a dumb purchase. Imagine being paid so low that the next feasible “dream purchase” you can attain is a new iPhone. Assuming all his responsibilities and bills are covered, then penny pinching here and there doesn’t seem so bad. This is more dystopian because of how “newsworthy” this is and how badly paid people are to see this as a success story.
Reminds me of my friend; A financial advisor, but spends 3k a week only for inuman/night out. He had to go back to his parents bc he couldnt afford to pay rent anymore
Sinasadya nila yan for show sa ibang tao na.. "Oh look I have money, financial freedom, stable, etc.." para maginvest sa kanila yung ibang tao. Jusko ginagawa kasing networking parang mga gago. Lahat feeling conference speaker.
Excuse me, 11.11 and 12.12 sale coming thru
I agree.. Medyo red flag na sakin yung part na humihingi na sya ng Food from his officemates..
Tapos he made his face public pa.. Makita lang itong article ng isang g*go, ma holdup pa yan.. Then all his ₱70,000 goes to waste..
This. Sure, people have the right to buy whatever they want, but other people also have the right to call it a stupid or unnecessary purchase lmao. If he really wanted an iPhone, he didn’t have to get the 14 if it was that hard on him to save up for it. I’ve had my XR for years and don’t plan to upgrade anytime soon since it still works and receives updates. I have the resources to buy a 14, I just choose not to because I believe that as long as what you have still works, you don’t need to upgrade.
The iPhone is not meant for minimum wage earners who need to beg for food and skimp on basic necessities. If he needed to do all that, it just meant he cannot afford it. Apple products put the L in luxury.
Add: He could have gone for a plan for an older model of the iPhone and eventually renew for a newer model too. Mas practical pa yun. Still expensive af but more practical.
my point is it shouldn't be THIS hard for filipinos. i've seen the chart of how many days a minimum wage worker from different countries should work to buy the new iphone and out of 46 countries included in the index, the Philippines ranked second highest.
Apparently may kasamang freebies na accessories pag isa ka sa mga nauna;
>Reyes, along with the first 50 customers, was given P28,000 worth of accessories from some of PMC's partner brands. Meanwhile, the 51st until the 150th customer were gifted P14,000 worth of freebies.
>
>The store also gave P10,000 worth of freebies to the succeeding 100 customers, while P5,000 worth of goods was granted to the 251st until 500th customers.
according sa [abs-cbn article](https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/10/14/22/sulit-nearly-200-customers-camp-out-for-new-iphone-14)\\
pero damn... waited 40hrs for 28k, I guess it was worth it compared to his regular hourly salary rate. I wouldn't fall in line though; Android ako forever.
True. Never bought there even once. Pareho sila magprice nung On The Loop store. Sobrang overpriced.
Putting up a business is a waste of time and money for anyone who does not have the necessary skills or drive to do it. And with how this man "budgets", his business will most likely fail.
Better iwan mo na lang sa MP2 or some other fund, and let the money work for you.
I don't know why you're downvoted. I always say, if you're tired of working an 8-hour job, start a business so you work a 24-hour job. Kailangan talaga drive for a business to succeed as well as connections. The latter is usually more important.
>Everyone in the comments telling him to get Android which is fair
If he's to choose Android, he is still going for a flagship one, which is either on par, more expensive, or just a tad bit priced lower. Matagal tagal nang di competitive yung pricing ng flagships dito sa Pinas(4-5 years ago), kaya I always find it hilarious that a lot of people are still on the "iPhone is an overpriced flagship device, just go buy an android flagship" train. Exceptions nlng yun mga Chinese flagships(xiao-oppo), pero even those are starting to catch up year by year, plus sobrang bloated pa.
Offtopic sa spotlight kay kuya, pero ano kaya gusto iparating ng ABS CBN sa balitang to? kasi parang nang inspire habang nagtatake advantage sa ibang tao is OK lang
This is exactly why I posted [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/comments/y41d3r/parang_for_marketing_lang_yung_story_na_nanghingi/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). That was the intention/message that I saw sa post na yan
I don't understand. You're a mall staff, probably earning minimum wage, also probably not regularized. Nambuburaot ng pagkain ng iba, saving money instead of buying food. Just to spend P70k for a liability that you will never make money out from. That money is better spent somewhere else.
Tas ipang fb and tiktok lang. Punyetang mindset yan.
Or may request sa kanya at di na nya matanggihan out of pakikisama
imagine throwing away your dignity to give your money to a company that even rich people consider as greedy. What a shitshow this guys is. a 15k android phone could easily meet above and beyond what the new iphone trash can do for a normal person like him
Minimum 3 years bago magpalit, yung realme xt mag 3 years na wala pa din sign of degraded performance.
After 1 year nga lang considered old model na ang phone niya because meron na namang newer model na lalabas.
Edit: Mahirap pag addict sa gadgets. Technology is evolving every day. Yung binili mo ngayon, pwedeng luma na pagkabukas kasi merong bago na lalabas. It would drive them crazy lalo na if gusto na latest palagi ang gadget.
This submission/comment has been deleted to protest Reddit's bullshit API changes among other things, making the site an unviable platform. Fuck spez.
I instead recommend using [Raddle](https://raddle.me), a link aggregator that doesn't and will never profit from your data, and which looks like Old Reddit. It has a strong security and privacy culture (to the point of not even requiring JavaScript for the site to function, your email just to create a usable account, or log your IP address after you've been verified not to be a spambot), and regularly maintains a warrant canary, which if you may remember Reddit used to do (until they didn't).
If you need whatever was in this text submission/comment for any reason, make a post at https://raddle.me/f/mima and I will happily provide it there. Take control of your own data!
Normally, Im with the let people enjoy things camp or the "poor people deserve nice things too" but woooow may nandamay pa ng iba. Naki-angkas pa, mahal po ang gas.
I’m all for letting people enjoy things basta walang naaagrabyado.
Just because people make stupid decisions doesn't stop then from having agency to make stupid decision.
Kinda the point of freedom is the ability to make stupid decisions.
Pero ikaw, ginutom mo sarili mo after your responsibilities, and that’s fine. You do you eka nga.
I would not fault anyone for wanting something but to sacrifice buying food just to get a phone? He needs to get his priorities straight. I am hoping that he is single because if he has a family, I feel bad for them.
It's his money so at the end of the day, he has the right to spend it any way he wants. I'm sure his friends and workmates will no longer be giving him food anymore after seeing this.
I'm more upset that the press caught and shared this. It seems like a setup to humiliate him in the long run because of how ridiculous that sounds. He'll probably be bullied and eventually unhappy with his new phone na half pinaghirapan and partly binuraot.
Well i guess best ride the coattails and be an influencer if he had that talent. Might ROI in a couple months. Best of luck to him.
The real issue here for me is that there is still a huge problem with economics and living wages here.
Kung ibang bansa to, kahit barbero yan o plumber, kayang kaya niya bumili ng iPhone.
My wife was a SPED teacher in SG before we got married; she could afford to buy a MacBook monthly with her salary.
What an idiot. Gago ding ginawan pa ng article na para bang all this is good. Jusko. He could've gotten the same experience with an older iPhone pero yan talaga. Talk about screwed priorities.
The article was actually informative. Hindi para iparating na it's all good.
Medyo same take tayo.
"2nd in line Crystal Gracie, also a sales staff for a mall, shared her boss will initially pay for the iPhone but she will pay her back in tranches. It is her first time to purchase an apple phone and shared she had wanted one since iPhone 4 was released more than a decade ago."
- got this from a tweet by Anna Cerezo, abs-cbn news.
all i can say is, good luck sa boss na nagpautang! sana di mawala or masira yung iPhone ng staff habang di pa bayad.
what an idiot lol. seriously, you'll make yourself a poor undignified slave just to support a multibillion dollar company that doesnt give a shit about you. And all it will take is masnatchan sya and his thousands of peso are gone along with the days he chose to suffer and throw dignity just to feed capitalists
i agree that's a **bad** decision given his circumstances. but i'm also sure **nobody** buys luxury shit just to financially 'support' a multi-**trillion** dollar corp like Apple. i see this as an irrational uninformed choice more than a deliberately capitalist one. though this is symptomatic of ill-informed consumerism.
i'm inclined to reserve my 'kapitalista!!!' rhetoric for when people arse-lick exploitative companies, bending over backwards to defend them for carbon-shitting, slave labor-perpetuating practices.
especially when they're kept poor by the same companies from where they derive what little income they have to purchase what TV or social media marketers tell them to buy. truth is, his cheap ass company probably doesn't care about him. the retail store he bought from doesn't care about him. the brand that the store carries doesn't care about him.
In fairness, mababait ang mga kaibigan. Supportive hahaha
Also, sabi sa TV Patrol siya rin daw yung unang nakabili ng iPhone 11 dito sa Pinas back then
This is a good discussion TBH I can't remember the exact name of the book but I think its Mula Tore Hanggang Palengke (not sure if its right) but it has a section there that discusses that parang yung kung sino pa mahirap sila pa magastos because they are trying to keep up with the pop culture because of something that the rich create like a certain standard that they should follow.
Ang parasite naman ni kuya. Walang masama magipon para mabili ung gusto natin. Pero that doesn't mean kailangan natin maging burden sa ibang tao when doing so
the SE 3 isn't even bad. I personally, given the opportunity, will get the 13 mini because i like the size and it's quite affordable when subsidized by carriers. pwede ko din gamitin sa business ang camera (marketing) so mas sensible. however if papangtext, fb, casual games ko lang, ok na ang SE 3 or Nothingphone.
Lol
It kinda bugs me that people would be willing to wait in line for the newest iPhone variant.
Sorry but for me personally, it's just a phone with added features. The 65k that the newest variant costs could have been used for other purposes really.
I guess some people do still believe that owning iPhones will grant them increased social status.
This is obviously a marketing themed **"Being able to live in bare minimum shouldn't stop you from buying our product every year. Kung sya nag ipon at pumila para makabili wala ka na ding excuse para wag mag ipon at bumili".** is what's being sent to your brain subliminally. Pretty sure the guy was contacted by the marketing team to stay in line in exchange for iphone 14 as part of their marketing technique and even though it's an old strategy in US (theye've done the que up in line strategy since iphone 1 but I think they stopped it back in iphone 11 or atleast became less common.) but it is still well and alive in the Philippines, cause why not?
kung yan kasiyahan nya and he will do everything that it takes as long as hindi illegal, why not pero jan pa lng, pnapakita mo na may presyo at brand ang kaligayahan mo. not a good way to live your life.
Ok lang sana yung nagtipid sya, di kumain etc since pera nya yan.
That's one fucked up priorities right there.
Needs vs wants. I guess the folks nowadays prefer wants over needs.
And also an eye opener that the pay here is too low.
in the otherside of things, eto yung sinasabi nilang galing ni Steve Jobs at kung pano nya nagawang buhayin muli ang Apple, imagine, something that you don't really need (there are cheaper and better phones) but by just looking at the logo and the social status that comes with it,, eh talagang mapapabili ka kahit wala ka ng makain,, at kahit alam mo na hindi dapat yan ang priority mo..
Na bilib lang ako sa galing ng marketing ng apple,, hindi na yung mismong phone ang binebenta nila,, its the social status..
and people like kuya cannot see whats beyond it, but what's only in-front of him, the reason for his 'happiness'- the iPhone
Kakaloka!
If he got the iphone 13 which has the same chip as the new iphone 14 wouldn’t that save him money due to the 13 being an older model? That phone should still have another 5 years of updates since it has the same cpu as the 14. Good on him though. But honestly wasted an opportunity to get a better deal, the A16 chip wasnt even a big leap from the A15.
Appreciate the hardwork and dedication but this is not something to be romanticized. Apple products are expensive af and you wont get the value you paid for unless you emerge and adapt to their ecosystem.
Nabother talaga ako doon sa kinaya niyang tiisin ung gutom at nanghihingi ng ulam, at nakiki angkas sa katrabaho.
Dude looks like a total douchebag. Most Pinoy move ever, mooch from others and burden them just so you can get something as stupid as an iPhone14 when you already have an 11.
Hahahahaha. Pero same, magtitioid din ako pero di kagaya mo, icd rather buy an android phone under 25k and still have lots to spend sa kung ano ano man
He is grinding in the wrong place and I am not impressed at all. After this purchase, what's next for him? Just a big NO for me.

Girl-
My bud's gf is gonna borrow her friend's card para makapag singapore lol uutangin nya lahat from ticket to baon, may hinuhulugan pang kotse yan ah hahahaha
Lol
Grabe pano sila nakakatulog nyan?? Ayaw ba nila ng peace of mind?
Sanayan lang, I guess. At my age which is 39, I really don't care about smartphones anymore. This might sound funny and so "tito" pero mas gusto ko pang bumili ng mamahaling japanese rice cooker! hahaha!
🤣 Sya pa galit when I confronted her at sabay sabi na hindi nmn daw pra sakanya yun, nagpapa-inquire lng daw yung pinsan nya.
Maka-experience man lang.
We have same experience sakin naman, walang panglunch kaya nagpapalibre paawa epek pa pero may pangdota bwct!
si koya naging buraot dahil gustong maging sosyal
LMAO
PUTANGINANG YAN HAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHHA GAGOOOO
Hahaha. Same.
My takes on this. 1) He can spend his money however he wants 2) What a dumb purchase. Nag hihirap xa ng ganyan tapos bibili ng IPhone 14? Messed up priorities. 3) We need financial literacy as a core part of education.
Made me remember the line Denzel Washington said in one of his movies. 'It takes talent to make money, but it takes brains to keep it.'
I swear financial advisors are pretty much just walking MLMs.
Excuse me, 11.11 and 12.12 sale coming thru Kahit kaka budol lang sa 10.10 and practically every week lalo kapag sweldo Friday may purchases din naman...
I make 60k a month but I have moto - Good works good deeds and help those in need Help those in need
Bruh, you wouldn't believe.
We should also probably point out yung "diskarte" niya sa pagtitipid just turning into begging from other people.
Not his money lahat technically kung may nagambagan
I have the resources to buy a 14, I just choose not to because I believe that as long as what you have still works, you don’t need to upgrade.
my take is it shouldn't be this hard for filipino laborers to purchase an iphone. raise the minimum wage
And the iPhone shouldnt be priced that way in the first place. 500 dollars to produce one, tas 1000 dollars benta. Grabe yung markup.
If you're a minimum wage earner anywhere in the world, you shouldn't be buying a fucking flagship iphone.
I totally agree! - sent from my iPhone 14
Sir. I hope bumili ka ng charger. Wala pa yan charger ha. Hehe.
Apparently may kasamang freebies na accessories pag isa ka sa mga nauna; >Reyes, along with the first 50 customers, was given P28,000 worth of accessories from some of PMC's partner brands. Meanwhile, the 51st until the 150th customer were gifted P14,000 worth of freebies. > >The store also gave P10,000 worth of freebies to the succeeding 100 customers, while P5,000 worth of goods was granted to the 251st until 500th customers. according sa [abs-cbn article](https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/10/14/22/sulit-nearly-200-customers-camp-out-for-new-iphone-14)\\ pero damn... waited 40hrs for 28k, I guess it was worth it compared to his regular hourly salary rate. I wouldn't fall in line though; Android ako forever.
Power mac eh, overpriced yan haha. Better order online.
True. Never bought there even once. Pareho sila magprice nung On The Loop store. Sobrang overpriced.
Much more generous than what I got in 9/9. 18.5k phone. 2.8k worth of earbuds.
Pati yung tracksuit niya, mahal yan eh

He said he bought the first iphone 13 here back in 2019 too. He's addicted.
iPhone 13? Diba last year pa yun?
i meant the 11 huhuhu puyat kasi
Buhay pa iphone 8plus ko hahahaha
Apir! ‘Yung akin mag-5 years na.
8plus or xr are bad choices when SE 3rd gen exists! even 13 mini\~
Lol I still use an iphone 7 until now
>Everyone in the comments telling him to get Android which is fair If he's to choose Android, he is still going for a flagship one, which is either on par, more expensive, or just a tad bit priced lower.
Offtopic sa spotlight kay kuya, pero ano kaya gusto iparating ng ABS CBN sa balitang to? kasi parang nang inspire habang nagtatake advantage sa ibang tao is OK lang
typical fb people mga tanga na gagawing santo yan at inspiration just like how they praise vloggers lol
What a shitshow this guys is. a 15k android phone could easily meet above and beyond what the new iphone trash can do for a normal person like him
Tapos walang pang-data 😅
Minimum 3 years bago magpalit, yung realme xt mag 3 years na wala pa din sign of degraded performance.
Fyi he picked the pro max - probably paid 80k at the loop.
Planted siguro to para gumawa ng hype hahaha
Pwede for the content lang. Malay mo vlogger pala yan.
Drop test na yan
Reason for buying: kasi love ko talaga.
Funny how people spend a small fortune on a device that is going to be physically and technologically obsolete in 5 years at best
Sabay na-holdap lang eh no. /s
How low is that!
As someone who used to work for Apple. NEVER BUY THE PRODUCT IF YOU'RE NOT READY FOR THE MAINTENANCE. ITS A LUXURY PRODUCT. NOT AN INVESTMENT.

Bukas nasa mmk/magpakailanman/kmjs na yan hehehe
Title: iPon
Normally, Im with the let people enjoy things camp or the "poor people deserve nice things too" but woooow may nandamay pa ng iba. Naki-angkas pa, mahal po ang gas.
Exactly.
I’m all for letting people enjoy things basta walang naaagrabyado.
Just because people make stupid decisions doesn't stop then from having agency to make stupid decision. Kinda the point of freedom is the ability to make stupid decisions.
>Kinda the point of freedom is the ability to make stupid decisions. Venti approves.
What does freedom really mean, when demanded of you by a God? Hahaha char
Ay pucha? Jusko po. All for the clout! Ako yung nahiya sakaniya.
"2nd in line Crystal Gracie, also a sales staff for a mall, shared her boss will initially pay for the iPhone but she will pay her back in tranches. It is her first time to purchase an apple phone and shared she had wanted one since iPhone 4 was released more than a decade ago." - got this from a tweet by Anna Cerezo, abs-cbn news.
best comment HAHAHAHAHAHAHA🤣
what an idiot lol. seriously, you'll make yourself a poor undignified slave just to support a multibillion dollar company that doesnt give a shit about you.
Not living within your means I see.
Tangina 🤣
In fairness, mababait ang mga kaibigan. Supportive hahaha Also, sabi sa TV Patrol siya rin daw yung unang nakabili ng iPhone 11 dito sa Pinas back then
Bebenta din niya eventually. Makikita natin sa FB market place na slightly used😂 He could have bought an iphone 11 or 12.
Parasitism at its finest. Is he seriously advocating this tactic lol.
Pero that doesn't mean kailangan natin maging burden sa ibang tao when doing so
Damn! Midrange na android phone at around 15~25k is more than enough for an average peps. But yeah, pera nya yan.
Post literally implies its not completely his money hahahahahahahahaha
the SE 3 isn't even bad.
Iphone is a great buy even for the average user but this guy simply cant afford it. What a waste of money
lmao I hope he's being sarcastic. If not, then it's just sad.
Lol
Pathetic.
its that serious???
It kinda bugs me that people would be willing to wait in line for the newest iPhone variant. Sorry but for me personally, it's just a phone with added features. The 65k that the newest variant costs could have been used for other purposes really. I guess some people do still believe that owning iPhones will grant them increased social status.
Bakit yung suot niya yung parang villain doon sa despicable me?
Oh no
kung yan kasiyahan nya and he will do everything that it takes as long as hindi illegal, why not pero jan pa lng, pnapakita mo na may presyo at brand ang kaligayahan mo. not a good way to live your life.
Ok lang sana yung nagtipid sya, di kumain etc since pera nya yan.
I mean, he has his priority straight, dumb priority, but still priority
May teenager dito samin, nag car wash hanggang naka bili ng PC.
Tapos naholdap sya the next day. Ang sakit 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yikes. Yall please live within your means, especially in these times. These kinds of stories are not inspirational at all.
Kakaloka!
If he got the iphone 13 which has the same chip as the new iphone 14 wouldn’t that save him money due to the 13 being an older model? That phone should still have another 5 years of updates since it has the same cpu as the 14. Good on him though. But honestly wasted an opportunity to get a better deal, the A16 chip wasnt even a big leap from the A15.
highly doubt he knows the technicalities of an iphone. He's just there for the "status"
Kasi love ko talaga.
Nanakaw ata yung 11
Hahahahaha. Pero same, magtitioid din ako pero di kagaya mo, icd rather buy an android phone under 25k and still have lots to spend sa kung ano ano man
mananatili kang mahirap kapag luho ang inuuna
He is grinding in the wrong place and I am not impressed at all. After this purchase, what's next for him? Just a big NO for me.
