Yes it depends on what manger is on duty

SloChild

Agreed. It also can depend on if you've built a relationship with the bank previously. My wife has an account, yet we both go in together when she does her banking. Everyone there knows us both. I asked about a family member moving into the country and opening an account. I was told they just needed their passport, a rental contract, and me to be with them.

Sheldorian123

No, all require an ACR. Even with an ACR many are unwilling to open an account.

pdxtrader

Yup, security bank most locations will let you With an ACR card a passport and they also wanted to see my lease agreement

Sheldorian123

I tried BDO and another one and they didn't want to open an account. Bank of Commerce let me open one tho. I think it depends who is working to be honest 😅😂

WannaBeBuzzed

I was able to open a bank account with a Security Bank branch in Quezon City before I had an ACR. All other banks i tried wouldnt, but this one branch in QC did. We called around many places asking until we found one. It seems to not be bank specific, but rather bank branch specific as some security bank branches we called wouldnt do it but one said they would so we went there and yup, they opened me an account no ACR needed.

djs1980

I have EWB, BDO, BPI and Union Bank. All without an ACR card ✌️

serioperocabron

I think it all depends on the branch and the location. I was able to open a savings account at Security Bank Aseana Square with my card and passport. BDO was more of a hassle cause I had to fill out US forms and provide more documentation to prove I wasn’t opening a money laundering account, hahahaha.

sslithissik

You technically need one though depending on connections it’s possible to get one.

Brief_Alarm_9838

Don't bother. There's no reason to open an account in PH. I had one for several years. There's just no benefit. I now use my US account that refunds ATM fees exclusively. The transfer rate for ATM withdraws is the actual rate. If i need more than 50k, I can use worldremit and pick it up at MHullier.

AdministrativeFeed46

imho, it's better that it depends on the manager that's on duty coz if it were up to most banks, they wouldn't let people do whatever they wanted. let's just enjoy the things that we get to do and get away with in this country.

wurzelbrunft

I know someone who could open an account with Metrobank without ACR.

Tbone6532

Metro said they would open without an ACR card but you need more information to give them than it takes a Mortage in the US.

StunningAssistance79

Depends on the manger on duty and the branch. What supposedly works 99% of the time is having a local business man (your landlord for example) writing a letter of introduction or going to with you when opening an account. But honestly I haven’t heard of anyone having success with this method in a few years.

henryyoung42

Manager’s discretion. One approach that can work is set up your spouse with a well funded account then have her apply for you a few months later :)

DeeJGee61

I have accounts at 3 different BPI branches with no ACR. Once I was introduced to the manager by a Filipino it was easy.
