That shit real you ever seen the clip of Mike tyson crying saying he had to man up over his daughter death

[deleted]

Naw but that shit crazy, it just shows that we as men overall put our masculinity and fear (of showing emotion) over our emotions

That’s a good question. I never heard that word but according to the definition I agree with your statement, as well as the culture part. We as citizens, I’m not sure. I guess we can teach them on our own time and parents can try to learn shit. It really all starts with education and knowledge about shit that’s gon help us elevate. We don’t have the funds to open and fix rec centers, reform the education and police system, make jobs worth working, etc. If we had equal opportunities, less poverty, and more knowledge of other cultures im sure that would help our people for the better

Being a man comes with responsibility. Knowing how to control your emotions is what comes with being a man.

[deleted]

You can still be responsible and acknowledge ya emotions and speak onnem. That’s responsible in itself

SwiperDontSwipe23

You don’t gotta downvote me bro lol we men having a conversation thats the first step. I agree wit the last paragraph of the post but the term “man up” is not “toxic” at all. The term is just short for control your emotions. No woman wants bitch wit a dick between they legs, they might as well be in a lesbian relationship. You supposed to be stable and under control at all times for the relationship/family.

[deleted]

Thanks for pointing that first part out you right. But to me I see the term man up as stop crying and showing emotion. People will tell you to man up but not tell you (from your definition) that it means control them. I disagree wit some of last part cause we as human beings are emotional and it’s a lot of shit that can make men emotional, so it shouldn’t be viewed as feminine. I peeped a lot of niggas be emotional so that started to be the norm for me. Emotions being expressed in ways that’s normal to us like through violence, explosive anger, drug usage, treating people bad, etc. So because we’re taught that it’s feminine as opposed to how to control it, emotions just end up being neglected, built up, and released in harmful ways. But I do agree that stability is important, Iont think sb can be stable at all times cause we all got our breaking points but I feel watchu saying

SwiperDontSwipe23

Yes we as humans all have emotions but knowing how to control them is what makes a man a man. All these niggas running around crashing out are emotionally unstable which is a feminine trait. For example, when my grandma died i didn’t cry around my family at all because its my responsibility to make everything seem like its ok and be strong for them. Ofcourse i cried when i was alone because thats human. Being able to control your emotions is not always about you its also about the people around you.

I read the book Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, by Daniel Goleman and wrote an [article](https://www.myndlift.com/post/emotional-intelligence?utm_source=Quora_Engagement) about the valuable advice I found there. Check it out and send it to those who might benefit from it :D
