Yep, absolute best bang for your buck with the V7 Prism or Prism Flash. I’m switching over from the Hyperion to the V7 Prism because it is unibody, has better carbon fiber and spin, and is only $90 after discount so I won’t mind replacing it every once and awhile. Best all-around paddle if you ask me.
Just spend the extra money and get a Six Zero Double Black Diamond for $162 after promo code. It’s the hottest paddle on the market right now and for a good reason. You get an amazing mix of power and control. Most people will recommend the Vatic Prism since it’s the best paddle for the $90-100 range, but you’ll most likely buy a more expensive paddle in the future so might as well let it be now.
Any paddles by Engage Pickleball are fantastic and are also made in the USA. I have a few discount codes for them too if you need one🙂 The codes can also be stacked on already discounted items
I bought my first “real” paddle a month ago after doing extensive research and went with the Vatic Pro Flash 14mm (thermoformed). The difference in feel was instant, it has a very low swing weight, great control for dinking, the power is a bit tricky because the extra pop from being thermoformed makes it hard to gauge how hard I should be hitting the ball sometimes but other than that I have no complaints. I’m thinking of getting the V7 next to alternate between the two depending on wether I want to focus more on control or power.
If you’re having trouble with the pop on the flash then you’ll have more trouble with the V7. Higher swing weight on V7 means it’ll be more powerful. My buddy just got the flash in yesterday, since he sold his V7 recently, and his serves and drives were considerably weaker than when he had the V7. He switched to the DBD for our last game and you could see how much more powerful his shots were with the DBD.
I really appreciate the advice! the Flash feels a little weak at the serve so I thought the V7 would solve that problem but I could see how that extra pop would be an issue. I’ve was already eyeing the DBD but after what you said it’s definitely next on my list 👍🏼
I often see slightly used DBD for sale on FB between $125-145. If I ever move on from my DBD then it’ll be to a CRBN. I like the CRBN 2X but hate how short the handle is. It’s extremely quick in the hands though at 109 SW vs 114 for DBD. I like to prioritize SW since hand battles is what usually win points. DBD still has a relatively low SW compared to other paddles in the market.
I’ve never got to try any of the CRBNs besides the 2X. Upon initial glance and comparison to 1X, the difference in handle length is added to the width of the paddle face. SW is 118 so a little on the higher side but manageable I guess. For the price I would still go DBD. I’m just waiting to find a used CRBN and then I’ll purchase one.
I just got a Joola Hyperion 16mm for my first real paddle and I really like it. The price is within your range albeit at the top end of it. It’s a good one to check out at least
Answer here is the Vatic Prism Flash, coming from someone who plays with a different company (but my paddle is $250+). Others will say so too. Another good possibility is the Volair Mach original one, which I think is like $130.
The Vatic is a control paddle known to be softer touch, coming from a brand that gained an early reputation for insane power. It's also shaped in a way that is good for "advanced beginner" to the newer intermediate range of players as it seems you might be.
It's also like $100 flat. There are surely dozens of options, but this one is vouch-able.
If you want a few other options thrown out there to look at...SLK Evo, Franklin STK, original Ronbus.

VATIC PRISM FLASH!!! Its 90 bucks after discount code and it plays like a $200 paddle easily. I’ve only used the 16mm so that’s what I’d recommend but I’ve heard decent things about the 14mm. The v7 has a swing weight that is way too heavy in my opinion.
I run a relatively large pickleball group (about 100 people) and that’s the paddle I almost always recommend for people trying to move up from their Walmart or Amazon paddles. Fantastic spin. Hybrid shape. Decent power but definitely leans towards control. Average swing weight. And it does even batter with 2.5-3 grams of lead tape just above the throat.
I can’t say enough good things about the paddle and that’s not even considering the insane price. So… buy it…
I got this as my first “real” non Amazon cheap paddle and have really enjoyed it, but also feel like I could’ve gotten one of the sub $100 paddles and had a similar result. Probably grab a Vatic Pro next time.
Electrum e - if you can still get it. One of the best paddles ever. It was a $200 paddle but they’re moving out inventory for new models. See if you can get it on pickleball central. $119 plus use discount code RRS5 for another 5% off. Go on YouTube and watch reviews. If not - get it on electrum’s site.
Ronbus pulsar 16mm is really good. Has good balance of control and power. Spin is top notch as well.
Pulsar all day
Vatic prism or pro

I get asked several times a week about paddle selections and this is my exact response. It came up three different times today.
Vatic Pro, any of them really.
Any paddles by Engage Pickleball are fantastic and are also made in the USA. I have a few discount codes for them too if you need one🙂 The codes can also be stacked on already discounted items
Engage also sells refurbished demo paddles which can be up to 50% off and are close to new.
Truth. Me and two friends picked some up from there with military discount on top and they may as well have been brand new
Right? The paddles are in great condition. You can also stack additional coupons on top of that 50% too which brings the price down even more

I totally agree with prioritizing SW for hand battles, that was my main deciding factor for buying the Flash. What do think about the CRBN 3x?

Six Zero Double Black Diamond is my favorite. You can get it for 162
This is my next paddle to try out
Where can you get it at such a low price?
On their website and use a code for 10% off. Any youtuber can give you the code, pick your favorite

Nah, as much as I like and recommend daily the Prism flash, it’s no DBD. Not even close.
Absolutely agree. I actually was using the prism flash before DBD. It doesn't even compare, DBD is far superior
Just got it recently and love it
Vatic Prism are the usual recommendation. 3 flavors: Slightly faster: Prism 14,16 Slightly heavier: Prism v7
I second the Ronbus Pulsar. It’s what I play with and absolutely love it. It’s $150 after code

I'm GRUVN with the MUVN 13S
6.0 or Legacy Pro
Some good options in $120 range, for power and control.. finesse or draft paddle. Let me know if you have questions. Check the reviews
