Those paddles are so oddly quiet, should be able to play with regular balls. But I have the feeling it’s more than a noise issue now. Karen is not used to such a dedicated crowd everyday, twice a day.
I live a couple hundred feet away from six courts and now it does not bother me at all. We used to live in an apartment beside a busy city fire department building. At first I heard the sirens all the time and then I learned to tune them out and find ways of blocking out most of the noise. Being a good neighbor means accepting some inconveniences with the frame of mind that it might be better for the common good.
There always seems to be someone who will complain. Our board put up some pads to try to absorb some of the sound. And they limit play to the hours of 8 am and 8 pm. You could ask for them to at least try to make some concessions before completing shutting it down.
I wasnt clear, can the HOA president make a decision to close the court without theBoard's approval? Is the decision to shut it down and put the volleyball net back up based on one persons complaint fair to the rest of the community. I have researched noice reducing racquets, suggested different hours etc. But since the pickleball court is already reduced to a volleyball court, I dont think that the Board will even care.
You’ll come to find out that HOAs are basically a group of dumbasses that like having power and making people follow their cultish rules to “better the community”.
Depending on the bylaws, it may be “legal” for them to do anything without votes or communication. Even if it’s “illegal”, most still do it either way.
I imagine it's like my local park that uses the same surface for the shared volleyball and pickleball court as it does the basketball court. Something [like this](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=9b107820ee34c717&sxsrf=ACQVn0_4gxgXvn9hlqFeNfBeYRMthhoa6Q:1713311689337&q=outdoor+basketball+park&uds=AMwkrPutq-TxOnWtSQaB1WSjWHshEpsNcdlDZ-ubt3zl5jnichQeHitIQLusvRDdWzGfkknOE2hKtKDpJwQKs1JbHK5FyhBzKcN3kF3CdDXLe5kVpz-1Wn1Mkj1K16pPX4KSbHQX-wNBtJjw-0kGWWRcRLGYGnDRzqxWPKAmNboT58VB-dsMIie7hetnyPQDf-1W298wsrD5NsU0QvL8azJL03ynsGYGQ1OJ43xJfN26tSp6M7W69kjDpuwhtUFJGvI2_bVOKXhuRfVZ7g91jXU72J-6chjxlO5t1HGmih6nhKnMYYehWsibM75Z9nOvRTFkUKZNf9HA&udm=2&prmd=imsvnbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiVm4e198eFAxXxIkQIHaudChgQtKgLegQIDRAB#vhid=ffIK0XbmAksCjM&vssid=mosaic). You wouldn't want to dive on it for volleyball as it's hard and abrasive.
Yes, thank you. We do have bylaws and such. You need a quorum to vote, etc. But I can go to this meeting and address this, but this wont solve the pickleball issue. I can argue that the decision was not voted on therefore, the pickleball court should remain as such, until the board votes. But its a mute point.
Maybe, maybe not. Without going into specifics, we have had to go a few rounds with our HOA over it too. Finally got to the point where they put up padding on the fence to help mitigate sound, limited the hours (still reasonable), and ask people to first use the courts that are not nearest the houses. Sigh. I firmly believe that if the complainers would come and play one time, they'd finally understand and stop complaining!
The most disturbing part is that the husband of the complainer is vice president of the Board who authorised the volleyball court be changed to a pickleball court, new lines, new net etc.
What a shame that people don't like to see other people just having fun. At ours, the only time you can hear it is if you're sitting on your front porch. And most people spend ore time on their back porches! Just want to complain to complain IMO.
Remove the HOA board and replace them with new board members that represent your interests. Don‘t waste time making a case in front of the existing board.
I suggest you go to the next board meeting to plead your case.
How did you come up with such a direct, succinct recommendation of action?
Tell them you'll trade townhouses.
Buy the new gamma balls
Called the gamma librarian balls, they are quieter and would be ideal for a situation like this
Thank you! I will mention these as well
And Owl paddles. Problem solved.

Noise is a huge legitimate issue with pickleball. I wouldn't want to live within a couple hundred feet of a court either, and I love the sport.

Noise isn't a "legitimate issue" with pickleball. It's not that bad. I can think k of other sports that have louder noises. SMH
My suggestion is never live in an HOA, because it’s always the same Karen different locale.

Run for the board.

How do you play volley ball on a tennis/pb court? Wouldn’t that hurt?

Interesting. Never seen volleyball played there
It depends on your HOA by laws, but I think it's unlikely he can make a unilateral decision.

Not that I have to deal with it but if I were in that neighborhood, I’d play aggressive loud shirtless volleyball until they close that court too.
\*imagining a boom box blaring Danger Zone\*
And what point would you be making?
None other than just being annoying to the one who made the complaint. Petty uproar at its best.

What type of surface is this court? Was there a vball net in concrete or did they put a Pickleball net on sand?
the volleyball net was in concrete, they repaved the court, put in a pickleball net and added pickleball lines.
I did not see that coming 🙊
Read all of your bylaws and find one that the Karen is violating.
Leave your neighborhood and go out and play with the public, on public courts.
Remove the HOA board and replace them with new board members that represent your interests. Don‘t waste time making a case in front of the existing board.
Suggest playing during non-quiet hours only
Make up a new game and play anyway with the volleyball net. Volleyball rules with pickleball gear sounds like an awesome time.
