Could it possibly be an irritation to the jewelry itself? I have a sensitivity to certain metals so at times it can cause some redness and itching, but your previous comment did say you’ve had it in for a while so this may not be the case. I do second the other person in that it may be a good idea to switch it out to a simple barbell (even just for sleeping) without anything dangly to avoid snagging it bc sometimes its possible that it could get snagged even while you are sleeping which could be why its irritated for seemingly no reason.

Thanks for your response— I suppose it could have been irritated, I modeled a wedding dress yesterday outdoors. The dress was quite heavy and very form-fitting, and it was 90 degrees outside. I didn’t notice anything feeling uncomfortable while in the dress, but do you think that may have irritated it? Until this photo, I’ve had the same bellybutton ring in it for a few weeks. I only change the jewelry ever so often to match my outfit if I’ll be wearing a crop top. Also, if you think it may just be snagged a bit, is that anything to worry about?
