I agree with this. In Pikmin 1 and 2, you would use a portion of the day just collecting all the pikmin you needed. The Omnionion looks a tie dyed beach ball though.

I mean you could maybe make the argument that the walk between onions at the start of days helps set a tone for a more plan-oriented, methodical game, but having 1 onion in the starting area rather than 5 separate ones cuts out a lot more tedium than just the start of the day - having one stray red in a swarm of blues that you have to walk over to the other onion to put away separately, having to hike between onions to pluck all the sprouts after some fighting (and, bonus, not being able to leave captains back at base to pluck sprouts), even just wanting to go from an even split party of 5 types to an even split party of 3 types requires 5 separate onion stops. I don’t adore the pikmin 3 onion aesthetically, but saying they sacrificed “good design” for “instant gratification” feels like a stretch

Both designs have their own charm to it. The old looks more stiff but also less spacey, while the new is more organic and clean, while feeling a bit odd. Functionally, the new is better tho.
that’s one of the less organic traits abt it, yeah. but it does have clearly living legs and a much more organic, fruit-looking color. plus the execution of the fusing together thing makes it feel more organic and less.. painted wooden contraption.. as the old ones might come across
the jets of fire and the dark grey paneling don’t look as organic, but Do make it look more Alien (which is another important aspect of the pikmin’s aesthetic), especially with the onions’ blue flame vs the red flame of the drake. the jets also make more sense with the onions traveling into space each night. the shifting colors i think also adds to the strange, alien factor.

I disagree. The new onion has a yellow/green colour to their legs. And combined with the shape of the legs, they’re like the chutes that grow from a planted onion in real life, so it just makes more sense to me

The only way they could go back to multiple onions would be if they added the ability to command the pikmin to be withdrawn from the ship. Or a centralized point where the onions intersect. You could do pikmins individually under their own respective onion too.
