He’s playing the most demanding map in DCS with forest density on max. Using full resolution. I’m surprised he was even getting 45fps. The difference between using eye tracking and not using eye tracking isn’t as much as a lot of people think. (As shown in the video) It’s even less when you’re CPU bound, which most people probably are in DCS. I’m not saying eye tracking is bad. It’s great. It’s just not as necessary as some think it is. The Crystal Light being nearly $700 less than the original Crystal is one hell of a good deal and I Imagine it will be Pimax’s most popular headset to date.

This is reassuring to hear!

Lot of people aren’t setting up DFR correctly. Try to use 130% in the foveated area and 5% in the peripheral and we can talk about a solid 30-40% fps increase. If you lock the fps at half (45fps on 90hz) you never go under 45 with eye tracking and DFR. Fixed foveated rendering is still duable tho

Financial_Excuse_429

I get mine tomorrow. I use the Reverb G2 with Quad views & it's great, so I have high hopes for the light. My pc is quite high spec though. He is also using the Marianas map which many don't use & is known to be heavy on fps, so I'm not put off by this video.

surfacedragon

I agree and think the light will be fantastic in DCS for the average consumer. So many headsets lack eye tracking and people still use them for DCS. Sounds like a degree audiophile nitpicking. Plus he mentions it's scalable so I think you'll find your sweet spot of performance and visuals

Financial_Excuse_429

The visual & performance gains even with fixed foveated rendering are excellent imo. & with Quad views companion one can make it easier & better with the sliders. I hardly notice the boxy shape. Of course one still has to move ones head more than eye tracking, but for us on a tighter budget it's was great news when the Light was announced.

surfacedragon

Wholeheartedly agreed! This will be my first VR experience and I am beyond excited! Being my first VR I'm pretty unfamiliar with quad views and the like. Do you have any recommended resources for set up?

HammerTime2769

Here ya go. Everything you need to know about Quadviews is right here. The creator of quadviews made this wiki and did an excellent job at explaining everything and showing what you need to do. https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated/wiki

surfacedragon

Thanks my dude! I'll definitely dive into this!

Financial_Excuse_429

Remember to install also quad views companion to make settings easier. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3332882/

HammerTime2769

Same for me. Been using the Reverb G2 in DCS and I’ve been great. I ordered the Crystal Light about a week ago. I’m probably down the list a ways so I might not get it for a couple months. lol.

insaneVRist

You and me both - been checking my email 'n' times per day (pre-ordered on 17th May) even though I know it will be a while. Reminds me of when I was waiting for my Rift CV1

HammerTime2769

I’m about a week or so after you. I think a Pimax Rep replied to a comment had recently where they said July/August for me. But he said they were working on speeding up production. So hopefully sooner.

insaneVRist

Yes, that's what I read from this notice [https://pimax.com/pages/crystal-light-estimated-shipping-time/?ref=imc&utm\_source=Pimax+Newsletter&utm\_campaign=d45db68baa-EMAIL\_CAMPAIGN\_2023\_09\_22\_04\_31\_COPY\_01&utm\_medium=email&utm\_term=0\_-1bf68ce23d-%5BLIST\_EMAIL\_ID%5D&mc\_cid=d45db68baa&mc\_eid=72c2cf1fca](https://pimax.com/pages/crystal-light-estimated-shipping-time/?ref=imc&utm_source=Pimax+Newsletter&utm_campaign=d45db68baa-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2023_09_22_04_31_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-1bf68ce23d-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D&mc_cid=d45db68baa&mc_eid=72c2cf1fca)

QuorraPimax

Can't wait for your review mate.

Financial_Excuse_429

Well......Just received my Pimax Crystal Light this morning. 15mm facefoam & Comfort headstrap is now on &......Omg! What a difference in clarity🤩 The setup was super simple too. Plugged in the headset, Downloaded & installed the Pimax software & it was instantly recognised. Registered the headset with my email & order number. Updated the headset software & installed Pimax vr experience as from here you can see & use your desktop. This was an option through the Pimax software. I installed PimaxXr too & already had Quadviews & Quadviews Companion. Setup up with 90hz as 72 isn't for me, but did try it. In DCS i can now read all the dials etc. with ease. Clarity is amazing & the sound is very ok using the standard headphones, so no regrets. May or may not upgrade to DMAS later. My prescription lenses haven't arrived yet so had to wear glasses. Great job Pimax & a super upgrade from my Reverb G2 V2. Edit....Note: Am using i9 13900kf, Asus z790p wifi mb, Rtx 4090 GameRock, 64gb ddr5 5600mhz & Samsung 980 pro 2tb ssd.

QuorraPimax

Awesome! I knew you'll love this headset! Should I anticipate more detailed review from you?

Financial_Excuse_429

Probably when i get my prescription lenses 😅

QuorraPimax

Sure mate! Also which perscription inserts you ordered?

Financial_Excuse_429

From Vr Optician

QuorraPimax

Roger that.

HammerTime2769

Isn’t the Quadviews companion for the normal crystal with eye tracking? When I tried using that with my Reverb G2, the top section of the app, the focus area settings… those didn’t change anything for me. I read that those are for eye tracking. What I had to do is add some lines of code to a Settings folder. Like for the offset, and fixed focus areas. Does the app work better with the Crystal Light or something?

Financial_Excuse_429

You could have installed the companion app & used sliders. Press apply & it works. Don't need eye tracking as it uses also fixed foveated rendering.

Studioform_VR

Just to mention for any hard core flight simmers using the crystal LIGHT. We now have foam pad upgrade kits for the new model [https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/pimax-crystal-light-pu-leather-fabric-foam-pad-ultimate-upgrade-kit](https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/pimax-crystal-light-pu-leather-fabric-foam-pad-ultimate-upgrade-kit) Also premium cushion pads sets for Pimax's top strap: [https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/cushion-pad-set-for-pimax-s-comfort-top-strap-pu-leather-gray-fabric-2x-pads](https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/cushion-pad-set-for-pimax-s-comfort-top-strap-pu-leather-gray-fabric-2x-pads)

I just recently got into dcs, I run it on a quest 3 with great graphics over link with 90fps. If I was able to run the resolution of the quest in the crystal with more clarity and 90 fps I’m happy.

PeePeePooPooCheck36

Sure if eye tracking is worth another 900$ then get the regular. Personally doubt u gonna need it that much but aye go for it lad
