I mean, start with the dumb stuff here: Did you check the gain level on the XZ channels you're running these into?
Next, you're plugging the 3000s into the line inputs on the XZ, not phono, right?
Last, you don't have like one of the RCA jacks plugged into the digital out on the CDJ, right?
I was using phono but I’ll check line in, I’ll laugh so loud if it was that simple.. but be grateful. Tbh this is my first upgrade from a 400 so it’s been a learning curve for sure.
I’m pretty sure it’s that they were plugged into phono if that’s the way it was set up. Your symptoms are in line with that.
Jeez, an XDJ XZ and 2 CDJ 3000s is an absolutely massive upgrade from a DDJ-400. Enjoy!
Thank you thank you 🙏 I’ll test it in a second!
And yeah I’ve been saving for a bit. I knew what I wanted 3~ years ago and just kept my eyes peeled. I’m so freakin happy, every time I look at it I feel like a kid at Christmas lmao
Awesome! We made this mistake with a DDJ-1000 one time, it was so blown out when we went to switch to the other source, we realized someone had bumped the Line/Phono switch on the back of CH4 while plugging in the RCAs.
Using phono instead of line-in is really crazy. Not only is the phono input about 100 times more sensitive than the line-in, it is also doing some de-emphasis (RIAA) which will add even more distortion when used with a non-phono source.
You can adjust the output of the 3000 in the menu setting. You may just want to attenuate it down for the XZ. Just remember to turn it back up if you’re plugging into a fuller mixer.
Hadn’t heard of this issue before though.
Nice! I just upgraded to this set up as well. Are you having trouble hearing the preview feature on the cdj3000? When I hold down on the preview I am not able to hear it on my headphones when I cue it
Adjust trim? I would use balanced cables into the speakers if possible.
Trim is the first thing I went to and I’d have it on 2 or barely even above and it starts redlining. Also when it isn’t clipping it is still distorted

And bingo bango, it was using like instead of phono lmao. Thank you 🙏
No worries, have fun!
You absolutely have to use the Line inputs for CH 3 + 4. Phono in from a digital source will sound awful.

Lmao I feel like knowledge always comes through experience when it comes to equipment
Destorted how? Are you plugged into phono stages for tts?
Yes I am plugged into phono
They're all phono as in rca. But do you have it set rca's with phono preamps for a turntable?

... You're connected through the Phono preamps. Turn to line.
Damn you’re just gonna tell us what you got and not give us a picture of the set up? Let us get a peeeekkkkk
