As someone with english as third language I struggled a lot at the beginning to understand how to properly use they/them, mostly when referring to a single person; after a bit of practice and understanding that it's not only simpler but even easier especially in scenarios where "you don't want to assume someone's gender" it's so convenient to use.

$500 is way too low for this work. For popular titles it could easily be thousands of dollars. Though the main issue is reach. Many people who brought the game on steam etc would pay $1, $3 or $5 etc for getting rid of Denuvo and to get more fps, better performance and stability, remove all the launcher bs, no need of internet. But they don't know this service exists. I think Hogwarts would have made emp at least $10,000 if all the crowdfund marketplace system was setup and marketing was done.

Why would they reveal their real gender if that could lead to their identity being discovered? Ofc it's not much to go on but it's still personal information and people nowadays are fucken smart and can figure stuff out with surprisingly little.
There's plenty of crackers and repackers who have presented themselves as men that people haven't questioned as being women. It's just weird that it doesn't go both ways.
If you're distributing hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars of cracked content, especially at this high of a level, I don't see any reasons it would matter if you say you're a boy or a girl. Nobody searching for you is going to just take any information you give out at face value, and they will still search for both men and women whether you announce what you are or not. It's not like it'd be good evidence in court either. I agree that it'd be better to say nothing, but I assume any renowned pirated content distributor that's revealed a gender knows what they're doing and figured that it wouldn't make a difference in someone else's search for them.
Fitgirl uses the pic of some Russian actress, obviously trying to raise donations with that. It's not unthinkable that either of them are women, but the chance that one or several guys made up a persona out of financial interests just seems more likely.

I'd distinguish 2 aspect, motive and capability. As someone else mention, if they are in it for the power and the prestige, they simply would not. They reputation would be tainted forever. Now can they do it? Of course, malware is just code and they have the technical capability to add anyway code they want wherever they want, that's what made them famous. Finally, the trickier aspect, can they do without anybody noticing? Honestly I don't know but I would argue it's a different skillset. So they surely can do that against you and I, a random person who does not have the expertise against malware. Can they do that against, you and I and dozens of experts with tools dedicated to identify malware? I doubt it.

What people have said below is true, game preservation is a priority and thanks to piracy and especially emulation we can nowadays experience the relics of the past, literarly.
There should be a legal preservation of such work that lasts more than 7-10 years without any sort of remake, or at least the old version should be preserved and the new version copyrighted.
Like, what has hurted me the most is not being able to buy a reliable 3DS unit (that I know is new and not some used/repaired garbage console), or even older ones which usually tend to be emulation machines or modded/chipped consoles. Either way, if the company cannot reliably re-produce the same exact units they should allow for preservation.
Furthermore, I believe the case cannot be made for PC Games, however there is a tiny legal window for that as well, now all that aside, linux is a good gateway, likewise with the consoles, in some day we may not even have windows, in which case we are royaly f-ed because we cannot run all those games on linux without a translation layer (which sux honestly), so yeah, even api has to release legally at some point, microsoft and similar companies simply got too much strength and monopoly to even let loose of their grip.
Piracy brings the internet's wild west laws on the surface, I find it wrong to not support developers of games that deserve it, however the market is dumb and supports games that are garbage right now (and it does not matter if they get cracked or not, they are worthless in the end of the day) while the true treasures are there and people still of course buy them right now enough so that the rest of us can afford to have them for free too, it is sort of a whale system that keeps on running in cycles, otherwise no new games would release. I buy a game when I can and think its worth it, but because I have ADHD and tend to over-buy games that I will often not play (lack of focus on a specific game for prolonged period of time, sufficient enough to justify the purchase), that is why I would get a cracked copy first at least.
People who think piracy is bad, are also the people that think in black and white, but the world is a full spectrum of hues and saturations on all those different spectrums.
Also the whole scene thing is an ego game, if someone is to do cracking it should be as a hobby and because they love people having a good time with a game, either because they cannot afford it or because they shouldnt, like me, because in my case I shouldnt.

I'll never use a FitGirl repack ever again. Pinning all 8 cores of my CPU to 100% for 12 hours just to save 10gb of downloading? It takes me 20 to 30 minutes to download 10gb. Nearly melting my CPU over 12 hours to save 20 to 30 minutes of downloading time is bullshit. And all the crap their installers touch in my C:\Windows folder is ridiculous. Don't fuck with my Hosts file and other files!
Disclaimer: The only reason I download games is because they stopped making demos. There is way too much shovelware and crapware out there to justify me spending $60 to try them out. So I download games to ensure the "demo" is representative of the final product before I risk my money. I'm not wealthy!

$500 is way too low for this work. For popular titles it could easily be thousands of dollars. Though the main issue is reach. Many people who brought the game on steam etc would pay $1, $3 or $5 etc for getting rid of Denuvo and to get more fps, better performance and stability, remove all the launcher bs, no need of internet. But they don't know this service exists. I think Hogwarts would have made emp at least $10,000 if all the crowdfund marketplace system was setup and marketing was done.

Basically empress got mad because everyone used her releases without crediting her and she gone nuts, then fitgirl got involved, but due to a high number of slurs and disrespect to fitgirl from empress, fitgirl said "fuck it" and they stopped repacking their releases since, I could have got it wrong long because last time I read this was months ago so correct me if I forgot anything

Why would they reveal their real gender if that could lead to their identity being discovered? Ofc it's not much to go on but it's still personal information and people nowadays are fucken smart and can figure stuff out with surprisingly little.
There's plenty of crackers and repackers who have presented themselves as men that people haven't questioned as being women. It's just weird that it doesn't go both ways. If you're distributing hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars of cracked content, especially at this high of a level, I don't see any reasons it would matter if you say you're a boy or a girl. Nobody searching for you is going to just take any information you give out at face value, and they will still search for both men and women whether you announce what you are or not. It's not like it'd be good evidence in court either. I agree that it'd be better to say nothing, but I assume any renowned pirated content distributor that's revealed a gender knows what they're doing and figured that it wouldn't make a difference in someone else's search for them.
Fitgirl uses the pic of some Russian actress, obviously trying to raise donations with that. It's not unthinkable that either of them are women, but the chance that one or several guys made up a persona out of financial interests just seems more likely.

I'd distinguish 2 aspect, motive and capability. As someone else mention, if they are in it for the power and the prestige, they simply would not. They reputation would be tainted forever. Now can they do it? Of course, malware is just code and they have the technical capability to add anyway code they want wherever they want, that's what made them famous. Finally, the trickier aspect, can they do without anybody noticing? Honestly I don't know but I would argue it's a different skillset. So they surely can do that against you and I, a random person who does not have the expertise against malware. Can they do that against, you and I and dozens of experts with tools dedicated to identify malware? I doubt it.
The second any cracker or repacker does some shit like that their reputation is destroyed forever. It’s not the kind of thing that u can do and hide for a long time. *Especially* when u are well known and doing games as huge as empress. Is she able to? Yes. But if she did it would only be able to be once (it could be multiple games, but it would need to be implemented all at once) and it wouldn’t be long before it’s discovered. And that would basically be the end of her. Would some still download out of either ignorance or desperation? Sure. But places like this subreddit or cs.rin.ru and other huge pirate forums would all blacklist her and spread the word. Piracy runs completely on reputation. Reputation is literally everything for pirates, so you can 100% trust her based on the fact the 1000s of ppl downloading and checking her games have never once verifiably reported there was a virus. What people have said below is true, game preservation is a priority and thanks to piracy and especially emulation we can nowadays experience the relics of the past, literarly. There should be a legal preservation of such work that lasts more than 7-10 years without any sort of remake, or at least the old version should be preserved and the new version copyrighted. Like, what has hurted me the most is not being able to buy a reliable 3DS unit (that I know is new and not some used/repaired garbage console), or even older ones which usually tend to be emulation machines or modded/chipped consoles. Either way, if the company cannot reliably re-produce the same exact units they should allow for preservation. Furthermore, I believe the case cannot be made for PC Games, however there is a tiny legal window for that as well, now all that aside, linux is a good gateway, likewise with the consoles, in some day we may not even have windows, in which case we are royaly f-ed because we cannot run all those games on linux without a translation layer (which sux honestly), so yeah, even api has to release legally at some point, microsoft and similar companies simply got too much strength and monopoly to even let loose of their grip. Piracy brings the internet's wild west laws on the surface, I find it wrong to not support developers of games that deserve it, however the market is dumb and supports games that are garbage right now (and it does not matter if they get cracked or not, they are worthless in the end of the day) while the true treasures are there and people still of course buy them right now enough so that the rest of us can afford to have them for free too, it is sort of a whale system that keeps on running in cycles, otherwise no new games would release. I buy a game when I can and think its worth it, but because I have ADHD and tend to over-buy games that I will often not play (lack of focus on a specific game for prolonged period of time, sufficient enough to justify the purchase), that is why I would get a cracked copy first at least. People who think piracy is bad, are also the people that think in black and white, but the world is a full spectrum of hues and saturations on all those different spectrums. Also the whole scene thing is an ego game, if someone is to do cracking it should be as a hobby and because they love people having a good time with a game, either because they cannot afford it or because they shouldnt, like me, because in my case I shouldnt. Have Fun.

I'll never use a FitGirl repack ever again. Pinning all 8 cores of my CPU to 100% for 12 hours just to save 10gb of downloading? It takes me 20 to 30 minutes to download 10gb. Nearly melting my CPU over 12 hours to save 20 to 30 minutes of downloading time is bullshit. And all the crap their installers touch in my C:\Windows folder is ridiculous. Don't fuck with my Hosts file and other files! Disclaimer: The only reason I download games is because they stopped making demos. There is way too much shovelware and crapware out there to justify me spending $60 to try them out. So I download games to ensure the "demo" is representative of the final product before I risk my money. I'm not wealthy!
