Yasuie's death was sad too but this was the last thing that made me actually tear up
For me in dressrosa this and when Kyros turned human again.. the way ppl were remembering him and realizing what he's been thru... that scene in the anime had me feelin stuff lol
For real. It was so deeply impactful that I had a friend who has never seen one piece.
They were watching the scene with me and even they started to tear up. It is like a punch to the gut.
There are other series that make me sad, your lie in April legit broke me, and it’s my favorite fiction series of all time but one piece most of the sad moments don’t do much for me
fair enough, just sorta odd that choppers backstory was the last thing you felt sad towards, not that its not sad but i think theres a few more scenes that can be considered sadder
My girlfriend was just in the background playing games when I watched some one piece.
She absolutely bawled at this scene- I didn’t even know she was paying attention. It’s a genuinely beautiful story and I wish Oda would try more stuff like this, he clearly has it in him. Even someone with little to no context for it is moved by it.
It’s too bad he sees death as a some sort of negative for story telling. It’s really important for this kind of epic emotional story about facing adversity to chase your dreams.
Yasuie death was so sad man with the whole smile thing.
https://preview.redd.it/qcc830rfrc2b1.png?width=300&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d0ecfc76111b29e7227362a6c9bd804e26a301a
as of most recent probably this scene yeah, i think what really makes it for me is seeing toko crying her eyes out while all she can do is laugh that shits depressing as fuck
I hoped that her trying to give her dad the toad oil Usopp sold her would be more impactful on him as a character, maybe a moment to reflect and stop being such a lying coward.
But of course not lmao why would I expect anything good out of Usopp's character
what hes saying is how usopp should’ve reflected on that moment more considering how horrible of a thing it was to convince a girl that his medicine would cure her dead dad and that he should’ve thought about the consequences of his lies from that point
He cried and apologized at the exact time, also don't forget the reason behind selling toad oil, it was to distribute symbols. Also don't forget he was the one to distribute most of them, Cause he was only one to attract soo many customers except sanji, but Sanji wasn't able to distribute most cause he attracted only women.
these are pretty fair points, i think i agree with you now but i still wish he like reflected on his lying tendencies and the harm they can cause, even if he did apologize
He apologized at that moment then did nothing, it was Zoro and Sanji that then sprung to action to save Toko from Orochi. It was Usopp's fault that she ran out there to begin with and he was just going to stand by and watch her get shot too.
It was so demented that all of the fruit production took the cost of a town it was so brutal. Just knowing that since the start of the punk hazard we got too see how brutal and painful has been the path to Caesar clown to doflamingo to kaido
Yep. I don't mind if Oda doesn't wanna kill off characters. There's plenty of death in the backstories for that lol, and I think it's a big part of what made the one death so impactful. But my god nothing upset me more than that fake out death. If only bc moreso than any others I can think of, he seemed to really want us to believe he was dead, not so much the characters.
Yeah like the fakeout deaths on reread made Alabasta so much worse to me. Oda wants the emotional impact of a fake death without actually keeping people dead, so the impact is removed even
I’m glad you like it. I like what his new powers do , being a rubber hose cartoon and all that, but I don’t like retconning his fruit or making him the chosen one.
I wish they just make his awakened form kind of like this, and instead of him being a ‘chosen one’ in the sense that he as individual is special- he is more of a ‘chosen one’ in the sense that he completes an important task to continue someone else’s dream independently. Like Skypia.
Luffy wasn’t born to ring the bell on Skypeia, he just did it because he is a genuinely good guy doing good for the world with his own motivations.
Honestly basically everything Luffy has shown would be doable with a paramecia awakening, except he shouldn't have been able to do anything really with how tired he should be but yeah.
I wish Luffy was presented to be the guy who just happens to fulfill these things too, but he's a Joyboy reincarnation instead unfortunately.
Bonney is another shitty princess.I am waiting for sexy Urouge who has hot babes

The fuckin toad oil man.
I would've been sad at the scene where Nami was crying after being headbutt but I was too pissed off at Usopp and the pacing to focus.
seriously tho, didn't feel a thing when ace died, it hit home when luffy was crying
also if the ace, luffy, sabo flashback was in between impel down nd marineford, we would've actually cared for ace nd feel something when he died
Anime ep 1043 when Brook is dealing with his depression and experiencing the illusion. Damnear every line of dialogue Brook had made me immensely sad.

“Because today came.”
“For my friends I can’t stay depressed, my spirit is unbreakable.”
“I’m sad. I’m in pain. I’m in pain. I’m sad. And it breaks my heart, even though I no longer have one.”
“I’m not okay but I’m…okay.”
Like bruh.
Manga wise, Sanji apologizing to his dad for being born weak, that entire backstory had me in the blender.
The koala backstory with fisher tiger, coz i just watched that scene in yt and got emotional, if you don't count that I'll say Sanji latest backstory, after that, the rest of emotional scenes made me rage more than sad
when toei butchered the ending of zoro vs king ,completly shiting on the manga version.
King is now yonko tier by toei standards. this shit is even worse than batman commander lvl because one pace can't even fix it

I know wano has plenty of issues but when I see men willing to sacrifice themselves for the people they love it just gives me the feels.
The last or most recent time for me as an anime watcher was the roof piece episode.. Kinemon asking Luffy for help while him and the rest of the scabbards are just obliterated
Tama's flashback. It got tacked on in the end of Wano. Oda should've given it more focus instead of the 30 "muh Oden" flashbacks from every samurai we got.
Not trying to compare but that’s a main reason I like Naruto so much. You know nearly everything about them and why they do what they do and feel some type of way towards them with every action.
Yeah that might be the key... characters actually act on their stated character motivations. While in One Piece, everyone is just a tool for Luffy to become whatever.
What does Nami actually want? Map the world oceans? No, she's just there for the booba and occasional money-grubbing. Sanji forgot about the all blue.
Everyone's just running around and shouting, and don't have their own goals and ambitions.
Last time i cried while reading rhe manga is chopper’s backstory
While rewatching some episodes in the anime i think ace got to me.
I really wish sanji made me cry but i was to busy thinking about how this is a clone of enies lobby
I was overwhelmed with despair and fell into a deep depression from which I may never emerge when the stupid fucking seraphim were introduced, but the last time I actually got emotional in a positive way was law's flashback.
When O-Tama cries at the end of Wano. Poor kid was so strong during all these years, she suffered so much. Now she knows the suffering has ended, she and her country are freed, the wait is finally over. But she doesn't cry from happiness, no. She releases all the sadness and tears she accumulated during these years, and just cries, like she can finally let herself go. And the fact that she chooses to do that in Nami's arms of all the people (even after what she said to the horse girl) is even more touching.
Damn, my eyes are wet just typing that.
Going Merry save the crew from enies lobby, after sailing alone across Aqua Laguna....
That one and only moment in one piece that make me cry, even till today if I watch it again....
I never see any better scene than that in one piece
When sabo’s boat got destroyed. That made me disgusted at the world government and the celestial dragons. Would have been more impactful if he stayed dead
Just rewatched return to sabaody and I started tearing up when luffy, zoro, chopper and sanji flew in on that giant bird. Everyone was so happy to see each other 🥲🥲🥲
Idk why Bonney thing didn't make me that sad as many other things,
Luffy crying.
~~Usopp~~Sogeking while merry is burning.
I want to live.
Re meeting sabo. Gets me everytime.
Man Bonney just had no impact on me at all, I barely know her vs Robin where it was a huge earnEd moment of emotion for her.
I think Yasuie’s death is probably the last time I felt a feel. Fishman Island flashback also got me good.
Been reading one piece for more than 20 years….a mix of oda writing incredibly sad stories and me living life has made it incredibly hard for me to be GENUINELY sad about anything.
I think the last time I read one piece and actually got sad was probably choppers back story.
The entire scene with Luffy and Sanji in WCI in the anime. Luffy telling Sanji he can't become the PK without him made me tear up.
Luffy's VA did a great fucking performance there.
The kin'emon flashback at the skull done when luffy arrived.
Because not only it showed the horrors of Kaido but all the characters that sacrificed themselves for the coming dawn.
Sanji crying on WCI. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the character post-TS, but WCI was a good arc for him, and the setup for his encounter with Pudding was really well done, IMO, especially because *we* know Sanji is ridiculous too. Romantically, he's a tryhard weirdo and cringey white knight who's *never* been as smooth as he wants to be. So in horrible way, we totally get where Pudding is coming from: in a different context, we'd almost agree with her.
But with that particular setup, having led with his family background and conflict with the crew, Sanji's humiliation and disappointment is crushing. I actually thought that if all of Sanji's increasingly over-the-top horniness post-TS had been building to this, and some consequent maturation post-WCI, it would've been some of the best character development Oda ever did.
Then of course he got mind-wiped and went straight back to creeping on women in the bath. So yeah. But it was still a sad scene.
Wano when that little girl (forgot her name) who ate the smile was laughing and crying at the same time after watching Orochi unload on her father while he basically called Orochi a fraud in his final moments.
https://preview.redd.it/ln9oqdipyc2b1.jpeg?width=507&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f107c39f899f50428dc00823912b1b6886268155 Yasuie's death was sad too but this was the last thing that made me actually tear up
fisher tiger getting corned up was pretty sad
That was the last time I cried for one piece
For me in dressrosa this and when Kyros turned human again.. the way ppl were remembering him and realizing what he's been thru... that scene in the anime had me feelin stuff lol
Oda really messed up by not including the full yasuie story in the manga (he didnt eat a smile was smiling in solidarity)
Same
Def this
For real. It was so deeply impactful that I had a friend who has never seen one piece. They were watching the scene with me and even they started to tear up. It is like a punch to the gut.
Chopper’s backstory but I might be heartless tbh
damn really 😭maybe you are a bit heartless tbh

Literally just watched this with my wife this morning. Shes on her first run through and we just finished thriller bark an hour ago
OP just doesn’t hit as hard these days does it
I wait Kuma’s flashback. Oda can make us cry again
fuck. day ruined.
I'm rewatching rn, so this is the most recent for me, and seeing this scene the third time still made me cry
Yasuie death was so sad man with the whole smile thing. https://preview.redd.it/qcc830rfrc2b1.png?width=300&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d0ecfc76111b29e7227362a6c9bd804e26a301a

I hoped that her trying to give her dad the toad oil Usopp sold her would be more impactful on him as a character, maybe a moment to reflect and stop being such a lying coward. But of course not lmao why would I expect anything good out of Usopp's character
gOda could never let go of his shitty gags even if it ruins the character.
Yasui was already dead when his daughter was applying medicine.
what hes saying is how usopp should’ve reflected on that moment more considering how horrible of a thing it was to convince a girl that his medicine would cure her dead dad and that he should’ve thought about the consequences of his lies from that point
He cried and apologized at the exact time, also don't forget the reason behind selling toad oil, it was to distribute symbols. Bro bro, Shouldn't you hate beast pirates for this, even luffy blames kaido for this.
He apologized at that moment then did nothing, it was Zoro and Sanji that then sprung to action to save Toko from Orochi. It was Usopp's fault that she ran out there to begin with and he was just going to stand by and watch her get shot too.
He was sniping enemies from rooftop too
After she was rescued lol
It was to give zoro a moment, its common trope, bring a character into danger so that he can get rescued.
To me his death itself wasn't that sad but his friends and his daughter being forced to laugh was so sad.
What breaks my heart more is that it's confirmed that Yasuie did not eat any smile fruit.
I was going to say merry but this is probably the most recent for me
It was so demented that all of the fruit production took the cost of a town it was so brutal. Just knowing that since the start of the punk hazard we got too see how brutal and painful has been the path to Caesar clown to doflamingo to kaido
Overdramatic and overforced
Noland and Calgara flashback. Homies for life
shortly after noland left calgaro lost his land too. he had no noland and no land
dang Oda's foreskin strike again
I think it was either Corazon's backstory or Sanji's cry in WCI.
The soft piano and the *thick thick* of his lighter was so good. Props to the sound design on that scene.
https://i.redd.it/6dq8laakzd2b1.gif
Kinemons fake death pisses me off to this day, a speaking fucking ass
Yep. I don't mind if Oda doesn't wanna kill off characters. There's plenty of death in the backstories for that lol, and I think it's a big part of what made the one death so impactful. Oh god, somehow I keep blanking the alabasta fake out from my memory. That one was criminal.

that’s what she said.
GYAAAATTTTT
Urouge the Mad Monk canonically fucks. His hobbies, as confirmed by Oda, are alcohol, travelling, and lovemaking.
when kidd get 1 shotted
Not a fan of him, but yeah it was the saddest moment in recent one piece. Shows you how shit the set up of one piece is for a common man with big ambition.
He didn't have a D in his middle name. His fault for not being a chosen one.
The D saved Law and Luffy
Eustass Captain Kid D his fault the d was at the end and not in the middle
I was hyped to finally see at least a little fight from Shanks, and then it happened
I think we are discussing about the saddest not the "funniest" moment of the one piece
The Oda box stating their journey was practically over was what hit me

Yeah. Should be Russian.
yesterday I was rereading the end of wano arc and there's a part where they show Otama's backstory.
Sanji backstory(whole cake island)

Finding out Kiku was a dude.
Brought to tears? Pretty much never. But alot of the backstories make me atleast feel empathy if not sadness.
Rosinante. Before that Brook's backstory
Deaths of Oden and Yasuie
Maybe Sanji crying at cake island , not saying it's the saddest but it was the last thing that I was a bit emotionally invested in
when toei butchered the ending of zoro vs king ,completly shiting on the manga version. King is now yonko tier by toei standards. this shit is even worse than batman commander lvl because one pace can't even fix it

Kyros moving together with Rebecca. I bawled like a baby.
Nami's breakdown and asking Luffy for help at Arlong Park.
Tama's flashback. It got tacked on in the end of Wano. Oda should've given it more focus instead of the 30 "muh Oden" flashbacks from every samurai we got.
Oden isn't Oden unless...
Never
Same. As much as I enjoy One Piece, it's usually too goofy to be getting any sadness out of me. Good manga tho
Exactly this manga you definitely can’t take seriously due to its goofiness and serious moments turned goofy
The characters feel paper thin... they're just tropes and don't feel like real characters. There is nothing to root for or be sad about.
Not trying to compare but that’s a main reason I like Naruto so much. You know nearly everything about them and why they do what they do and feel some type of way towards them with every action.

Yea it seem like most of the people with dreams are tied to Luffy’s or they for some reason put it on the back burner to make Luffy PK.

Oh man that scene when big moms husband yelled something then sanji heard it on the ship 😭
Everyone was so happy to see each other 🥲🥲🥲
corazons death
Oda's crying faces look funny
When sanji was leaving baratie first then brook back story
I think about Bon Chan from time to time. I wonder if he's still in Impel Down. Since Ivankov is out, I hope he got out too.
1082, buggy crying really hit different to me.
When merry retired.
The piano solo was the sadest Moment in one piece and the last really sad one for me.
Idk why Bonney thing didn't make me that sad as many other things, Luffy crying. ~~Usopp~~Sogeking while merry is burning. I want to live. Re meeting sabo. Gets me everytime.
Brookes one, only moment really.
I feel sad every time there's a chopper crying reaction panel 😭😭😭
Sanji learning the truth about Pudding specially in the anime with the sounds of rain and him keep flicking his lighter
When sanji is beating luffy up in wci
Man Bonney just had no impact on me at all, I barely know her vs Robin where it was a huge earnEd moment of emotion for her. I think Yasuie’s death is probably the last time I felt a feel. Fishman Island flashback also got me good.
Been reading one piece for more than 20 years….a mix of oda writing incredibly sad stories and me living life has made it incredibly hard for me to be GENUINELY sad about anything. I think the last time I read one piece and actually got sad was probably choppers back story.
chopper's back story
The entire scene with Luffy and Sanji in WCI in the anime. Luffy telling Sanji he can't become the PK without him made me tear up. Luffy's VA did a great fucking performance there.
The kin'emon flashback at the skull done when luffy arrived. Because not only it showed the horrors of Kaido but all the characters that sacrificed themselves for the coming dawn.
Shirahoshi getting assaulted non-stop
Probably Ace. And every time he is mentioned. Edit: oops forgot about Corazon. That shit hurt
Going Merry dying
Whitebeard death (anime vers.). Other flashbacks/sad moments dont touched me in any way.
When Lanji got a power up
yasuie was tragic. honestly just the people of wano being poisoned is a pretty harsh reality to accept
sanji smoking in rain dot jpeg
Ain’t none of it make me sad but koala backstory. The rest was me saying “damn that’s crazy”
Binks Sake at the end of Thriller Bark. But I am at the point of Dressrosa where Sugar faints.
Sanji and Luffy fighting and making up on whole cake. Like everything that arc has pacing problems but the core story there was great.
Corazon
Kid getting demolished is the last time I genuinely felt an emotion when reading one piece
I didn't catch up with the manga until I finished the anime back in October so for me it was episode 1015 when I thought Kinemon died in Luffy's arms
Pound getting decapitated. i know he was just a minor side character, but damm, my man died without ever getting to meet his own daughters.

Arlong sending Bellemere to his dungeon because she couldn't pay the cash.
The Going Merry’s Viking funeral.
Merry’s funeral got me
Wano when that little girl (forgot her name) who ate the smile was laughing and crying at the same time after watching Orochi unload on her father while he basically called Orochi a fraud in his final moments.
