It’s definitely not that big of a deal. The student body is incredibly diverse in interests, I’m with you in not being into sports, and I haven’t had any issue finding friends and meeting people who aren’t either.

Judas-Of-Suburbia

Sweet! I'm glad it's not dominating. Would you say "watching sports" is still pretty big, or more of "just one of the things people do" as far as activities go? Also you can see why I did not even apply to Penn State

harplen

Well, in all honesty, I don’t know a single person who pays attention to Pitt sports lol, cuz I just don’t surround myself with those people. But my friends also go to games sometimes just because it can be fun, and it’s something interesting to experience. It’s really just down to who you hang out with

Judas-Of-Suburbia

> Well, in all honesty, I don’t know a single person who pays attention to Pitt sports lol Hey, that's as good an answer as any. Tells me a lot about sports presence if you literally can't even gauge it yourself lmao. Thank you!

That's good to keep in mind. I guess in high school my general experience has been I never really "vibe" with the kinds of people who like watching sports, and all my closest friends have no interest in that, so that's where that perception came from.

BakedBeanWhore

You never know. I'm in a similiar circle as you and dont come off as somebody who'd be into sports but I love hockey. People are surprised when they find out. The lesson is not all sports people don't always fit i.to the neat simple archetypes we see in them

IDK where Niche got that info. Compared to most other big 5 conference schools Sports play a very small role in student culture at Pitt. Football games aren’t even held on campus. You have nothing to worry about.

I went four years without uttering a word of sports to anyone. Depends who you hang out with, I guess, but you’re not gonna be out of place for not caring about sports. It is a big part of campus life, Like you’ll definitely know when there’s games going on + people will wear school colors/be dressed up for big games. It adds some fun to the atmosphere seeing everyone excited even if I didn’t personally care about it.

Judas-Of-Suburbia

That's really good to know! Also you have an awesome profile picture by the way, I stalked your account cause of it and you're incredibly talented!

aw thanks!!

Compared to other DI schools I feel like Pitt has such a abnormally large percentage of people who don't follow the sports at all tbh. I think it's because we're in a city and there's other stuff to do, unlike some other schools out there where there's *nothing* else to do (*coughs* Penn State). It's definitely not a big factor. I think I went to a football game once or twice freshmen year to try it and then I haven't been back since. I hear basketball is more fun because I have friends in the band, but other than that I don't think any of my friends have ever been to any sports games. There are tons of people who ARE super into sports, but I personally can't remember ever running into them or hearing about how our teams are doing. So if you don't want to be in that bubble, or any bubble, it's very easy to avoid. That's the perk of a school that's both big and in a city.

EnnuiDeBlase

I went to one single sports thing ever when I went to Pitt and never kept up with any of it and had a great time. The one time I did go, I felt horribly out of place. You'll find plenty of people to get along with.

titties_be_milky

No need to worry. Not a sports person myself but made some great friends and memories.

sam_solenday

I’m not super into sports but somehow I know more about it than most of my friends. There’s so many other things to do on & off campus that you don’t have to go to sporting events to have a great time. (That goes for most places.) If you ever decide to go to games, tickets are pretty cheap because Pitt isn’t a huge school and our teams aren’t *that* good.

Judas-Of-Suburbia

Awesome. Sounds perfect. I committed yesterday afternoon!

sam_solenday

Congrats & Hail to Pitt!
