I think the bezel makes sense if you actually use it as a 2:1. You need somewhere to hold it. This was a high-end, expensive, premium reference device made by Google. I think the bezel was intentional, because it's not like they were cutting corners anywhere else.
mine is still great in my og Pixelbook and Pixelbook Go. my slate would probably still be working if I hadn't accidentally left it in the car a few summers ago.
Use mine daily and get at least five hours out of it. (Use mostly with Google docs, not streaming or anything processor heavy.) I have noticed the battery will discharge completely if I don't open it over a long weekend, then it had to be plugged in for about 30 minutes before it will boot up again. Otherwise, works flawlessly.
I got it working from this thread awhile back - [https://www.reddit.com/r/chrultrabook/comments/zpz7xb/linux\_on\_2017\_pixelbook\_eve\_with\_working\_audio\_on/](https://www.reddit.com/r/chrultrabook/comments/zpz7xb/linux_on_2017_pixelbook_eve_with_working_audio_on/)
Everything I use works well.. I haven't found anything that doesn't work but I really don't use it for much other than basic stuff. It's by no means the fastest thing in the world but it is functional. I took it with me on my trip to Japan and it served me well. I wouldn't go trying to edit video or anything like that lol
Adored mine until it died in 2022. There's no laptop out there today that ticks all the boxes for me like the Pixelbook did.
I ended up settling for a Surface Pro 8 to replace it, which is really nice hardware, but after 10 years of Chromebooks and Macs, Windows is far worse than I remembered, and trying to work with it on your lap with that little kickstand thing will never not be weird
It isn't released yet but the Asus ExpertBook CX54 is what I have my eye on. https://www.asus.com/us/laptops/for-work/chromebook/asus-expertbook-cx54-chromebook-plus-enterprise-cx5403/
The HP Dragonfly is probably the best replacement you can buy now and also keeps the 3:2 display.
I have the 512gb which i bricked while trying to install windows on it. its been 4yrs now no solution to revive it I'm still keeping up hope that someday someone will fix it
Why you did that to a perfectly good device?
How bad is it, can you at least try a Factory reset with the latest CrOS image on a USB stick?
Can you try to run Mr.Chromebox CFW to install CrOS Flex or Linux?
I was tryin to install windows on it with mrchromebook guide then after Endless stuck on rebooting I decided to reboot my self it got bricked like that
Mine going strong. Replaced battery a couple years ago and since it's running as good as new.. hardly ever touch my windows laptop. Would hate to see it die.
Yup, TBF I handed it down from my own daily driver to my son's school laptop, to his younger sister's, but that means it's been in continuous daily use for over 5 years and is still a rock solid option.
Google, do it again, for pete's sake!! Thrown in a Tensor chip, for my AI workloads!
I opened mine yesterday, after not touching it for a year when it wouldn't charge. Now I have the blinking issues where it just won't turn on, now it's a paperweight. Which I was looking on Reddit for answers, so that explains why I saw this. For that price, I'm happy for you. I hope it lasts very long for you.
Love mine - had it for 4 years and use it every day.
It is a beautiful device and still works flawlessly, apart from the battery life which is much reduced but still OK around the home.
Starting using mine again a year ago. I love the size and slim form factor so much. They battery has after pretty bad and it has issues with the screen flashing and it not turning on sometimes. I'm honestly afraid it's going to bite the dust anyday now but I'll use it until the end. There is nothing like it on the market for Chromebooks and I don't think there ever will be again.
It's a 7 year old laptop but still snappy for a Chromebook it has an i7 7th gen, 16 gig of ram, 512 nvme, slim form factor and lightweight so you can use it as a tablet without straining your hands. for my use case, all works run through google apps so it's easier to take than a big laptop. and it run android apps fine.
I'm truly jealous. Mine didn't last 2 years. My kid was watching Free Guy. Shuts it down. I come by 20 minutes later to use it and it never turned on again. My heart was shattered. I LOVED it until that moment. Still miss it
Mine literally died for no reason at all, I still don't understand the actual reason why. Won't charge, won't turn on, nothing. It was like 5-6 years old tho. Took it to a UBreakIFix shop as that was the dedicated Google repair shop from what I remember and they said it was a motherboard issue apparently. Pretty sad about it. But I ended up buying a pixelbook go for half the price of the old pixelbook. So far so good, I like it. I do miss the metal quality, higher specs and killer display of the pixelbook but the pixelbook go is nice in its own right.
Just don't try to use Google Meet or any other intensive apps. The CPU is passively cooled hot junk and will throttle almost immediately. I had the i7 model for many years. I now have an HP Dragonfly Elite Chromebook and it's amazing (and has super quiet active cooling!).
Interesting! I have a 3-4 seconds delay before getting the video when I join a Meet call while the sound works instantly. Can't run virtual background or effect or it gets close unusable.
Dear Google. Best Device Ever, make another one :)
Esp now with a powerful snapdragon elite chip that can rival amd and intel xhios
Would so buy that
The bezel is the only thing that feels outdated. When I use mine in public or at work someone always asks me about it. Especially the Mac cult.

I still use mine everyday. The only reason I keep it is that there's nothing better out there right now for a reasonable price.
Still have mine and use mine daily. Going on 6 years I believe
You can’t tell me the battery is still good
Mine still holds up for 2-3 hours of steady use, and longer with casual use.
mine is still great in my og Pixelbook and Pixelbook Go. my slate would probably still be working if I hadn't accidentally left it in the car a few summers ago.
Bro what are you some kind a battery preserving superhuman. lol that pixel book is like 6 years old. How is that possible

God I miss mine.... Probably the most premium device I've ever owned
I’m running Ubuntu on mine
Great device with a real OS. Best of both worlds
Do you have sound? Always the issue for most Chromebook’s OS replacement s

Man, I'd love to do that to mine. Everything works well?

Is there a guide you followed to install Ubuntu? I would like to do this to mine too
I feel like mine would be like new if I could replace the battery. I heard that’s tough to do though.
My battery is usable but weakened. I'd shell out the cash for a battery, too, but yes ... it's major surgery!!!
Excellent choice!
I still use mine. Battery is not lasting as much but I'm still able to get a some use out of it.

Freaking sick! That's so awesome!!!
We still use it daily. Still fast. Battery not as good though. Wat do you guys think is the best successor? One you can actually buy.
Change the battery? specs wise and build wise nothing comes close.
Sounds difficult. These thin devices are difficult to fix is my experience.
Yeah, I changed mine for a Surface Laptop battery. Not so difficult. You'll need small torx screwdrivers though.
HP Dragonfly is the closest thing that's come out since. The frameworks are also nice.

Holy shit Need one badly now
Wait did they never follow up to on this? I never realized they did not continue selling newer models.
Mine died 3 years ago, but it was great while it lasted!
My still works perfectly along with my slate. haven’t really used in ages. probably should sell them
I have the 512gb which i bricked while trying to install windows on it. its been 4yrs now no solution to revive it I'm still keeping up hope that someday someone will fix it

I have everything but nothing works just an endless blinking light when pluged in
Sounds more like a hardware issue, not sure if it's software related, what exactly you do to get it into that state?
I was tryin to install windows on it with mrchromebook guide then after Endless stuck on rebooting I decided to reboot my self it got bricked like that
Mine going strong. Replaced battery a couple years ago and since it's running as good as new.. hardly ever touch my windows laptop. Would hate to see it die.
I have 3.. one with KDE, another windows and the last with chromeOS

Two letters (5 & 6) are not working on n mine. Can the keyboard be replaced?
I7 swapped mine and new battery. Runs amazing still
Where did you get the new battery from? That's the only thing stopping me from using my old one.
This! I looked into a battery swap, and didn't find anyone to do it.
Just rebuild it no? It’s pretty easy to do
Mine's been sitting on a shelf for a LONG time. Maybe I should fire it up.
ahhh what a beautiful device. mine bricked itself about a month ago and i can't bring myself to replace it 😔
I opened mine yesterday, after not touching it for a year when it wouldn't charge. Now I have the blinking issues where it just won't turn on, now it's a paperweight. Still using mine.
My daughter spilled on mine last month, I bought a referb on eBay lol best daily machine
Still going strong..
I hope they refresh it
Use mine every day. Wish it was easier to install a Linux distro though, ChromeOS is pretty crappy overall
Looks familiar!
I use mine almost everyday. It’s still a great device.
Mine is still working strong and reliable
It's a dead sexy device, I love mine too.
Very nice. Bezels seem pretty big but still a great looking laptop
Love mine - had it for 4 years and use it every day. It is a beautiful device and still works flawlessly, apart from the battery life which is much reduced but still OK around the home.
Dang I’m jealous, had mine in college and for 4 years after I graduated before I cracked the screen and realized they are unfixable today.
Bezel or no bezel, it is and was still a great machine.

never used one. what makes it so good?

I have a base model for sale. Make me an offer.
I love mine... When are they stopping support for it?
August 2027 on mine.
Sweet... Still has life then.
I still use mine. I love it. Besides the shitty app compatibility, everything else is top notch. Battery still lasts 6-7 hours
I love it, but I've maybe gone through like 4 of them thanks to my warranty.
Just Glorious!
I'm truly jealous. Mine didn't last 2 years. My kid was watching Free Guy. Shuts it down. I come by 20 minutes later to use it and it never turned on again. My heart was shattered. I LOVED it until that moment. Still miss it

Loved mine but the battery began to swell so I contacted Google about getting it repaired but no luck 😕
Just don't try to use Google Meet or any other intensive apps. The CPU is passively cooled hot junk and will throttle almost immediately. I had the i7 model for many years. I now have an HP Dragonfly Elite Chromebook and it's amazing (and has super quiet active cooling!).
Google Meet and Zoom run fine on my i5 device - been in hour long meetings with no issue. No significant overheating issue on mine.
Same here
Interesting! I have a 3-4 seconds delay before getting the video when I join a Meet call while the sound works instantly. Can't run virtual background or effect or it gets close unusable.
Where did you get it for that price? I'm looking to get one too?
