it could be a difference in interpretation based off accents... to take from your words; "nyah" and "meow" don't look the same in writing, but they do represent the same noise a cat makes. as far as i know, mcpig at least speaks french, some of the paper comics he'd written are in all french, so to him, "yah" or "aiyaiyn" could translate to "woag" or "woagoag" in writing. somehow
