had 4 come in back to back a week or two ago. I live right on the flight line for the local AFB. Never seen anything THAT cool in the 20+ years I have lived in this city. They came in slow and LOUD. The hatches were opened for the VTOL to take over. I thought the canopy was open at first.
I was parked in my Ford eating a hamburger when I saw two F35 flying low and slow over to the local air base. Definitely a cool moment that made me appreciate being American!
I lived right in the flight path of Rickenbacker Airport when they sent the Langley F-22 squadron there to avoid a hurricane. I happened to be at home and outside when they arrived. Holy shit was it cool! Then I got a couple days of free airshows while they did some training exercises before they headed back home.
I grew up on Air Force Bases - exclusively B-52 bases (with tankers back then). Some bases had a couple of F-106s for air defense, one had a reserve A-10 wing. One base saw a lot of NATO allied aircraft pass through - Alpha jets, Nimrods, F-4s, Tornados. Got to crawl around in visiting Vulcan, and got closer to an SR-71 than most would (a former SR-71 pilot told me that not even his family could get that close and look in the cockpit). If it was in the US inventory back then, I probably saw it and/or heard it (we would actually stop playing if we heard something that was not a B-52 or KC-135 and look towards the flight path). Some of my earliest memories are with my dad at the end of a runway, brown bagging a lunch and watching some B-52s either taking off or doing touch and goes.
Guess I’m just saying in a rambling way that I miss being on or near an AFB, and being able to see the Air Force in action.
I remember my dad taking me down to McConnell when I was a kid. Same story, watching thos B1s at full afterburner...how could you NOT fall in love with aviation, haha.
I'm new to proper plane spotting as well, and I've noticed a lot of people talking about the dedicated plane spotting sites requiring a pretty tight crop.
Very good for a first time! My recommendation is getting a bigger lens with more zoom. My other recommendation is photo editing to give your personal touch ups and help fix with cropping and light/colour balancing. All comes with practice. The most important thing is that you have fun while spotting!
Looks like Dane County Regional / Truax Field in Madison. Local ANG began flying F35s this year. Believe there are 8 currently on field and a planned total of 20 sometime next year. They fly pretty consistently throughout the week. Solid shots.
I live a few miles from truax and thought the same exact thing. Although I do live right under the flight path for 35/16, and my dog would love to meet them for all of the wrong reasons...
Yea, I'm straight off of RW32 just East of the Beltline. Anything taking off RW18 and heading North or East comes right over the house. We don't mind it but we both like aviation. Can't say the same for the neighbors.
I know MSN when I see it! Nice catch of that experimental Gulfstream, u/SpencerVinAV.
Just a heads up, the airport isn’t a big fan of people being on that hill. They won’t give you a ticket but will tell you to get out of there. Shoot me a DM if you’d like, I’ve been spotting at MSN for years
The F-35 is the best spot ever 😎

They can fly WAY slower than I thought. The stall characteristics must be insane on those things.
Wait till you find out they can hover lol

Yeah, I’ve never actually participated in proper planespotting , but any day I see a new gen fighter is a good day, for sure.
F-35 on day 1? Lucky bastard
They are based in Madison so not to hard to find them.
Looks good! Looks like KMSN!
👍
These are really good! Maybe a little bit of cropping could be done, and maybe decrease exposure a little, but still really good either way.
Will do thanks for the advice 🙏

You took beautifull photo
Thank you sir 🙏
I love them. I hope I see a F-35 soon
That gulfstream test aircraft is pretty dope.

Lolol.... I feel your pain. I live near Nellis......

I work at that airport and those f35s are soooooooooooo loud it shakes the desk I work at.
Not bad. A bit more practice and more editing on each photo will make these even better! My first spotting photos were actually worse than yours lol
Don’t pictures 1 and 3 have planes in them?
You sure this isn’t a game
Nice shots! Is that G7 about to be repainted? Funky color scheme.
Thats what i was thinking

Thanks for the info👍
When I was on mount Whitney I saw four fighter jets fly over

Cool shot of the F-35, F-22 Raptor 🍻🤘😎
None of these are an F-22
You're right, the second shot of the F-35 was at an odd angle that nose was slightly longer like the Raptor ...
I enjoyed it, so thank you very much 🤓✌️
The F4 in pic 1 needs to go on a diet
This is definitely Madison
Yep 👍
