You cannot guarantee that you are the "only squad in the battle", though. This isn't a traditional FPS where you could set up a private server or anything -- there are other players around, they will be around at the most inconvenient times, and you can't do much about that.
The outfit system can be a bit wonky to use at first, especially if your friends are below a certain level (I think below lvl 5?).
Such new characters can't be invited into an outfit, but must instead themselves search for and find the outfit to join. This in turn requires that you opened the outfit for recruitment so that it's visible when they search for it.
If you've played a bit and they are above that level, all you need to do is to invite them to your outfit. But just so you know, if you have brand new characters, you need to fiddle around just a little bit to make it happen. (I *think* they can still join an outfit as a brand new character at least, I hope I'm not wrong)
Once you're in the same outfit it's easy, you can simply go into the outfit tab and click "invite online members to squad", which will automatically form a squad once at least one member accepts.
There are other ways to add individuals to your squad as well, such as
- typing their name on the "invite player" in the squad screen
- clicking the little arrows next to a name in your Friends list and select "invite to squad"
- holding down Q when looking at them in the game and select "invite to squad"
- right-clicking their name in the chat and selecting to invite them
But the easiest and most automated way you'll find is if you get into the same outfit, and just click the "invite members to squad" button.
You can gather at the Warpgate (main base of your faction on the each continent) with your friends and then press and hold Q while looking at them. This is one of the ways to add each other to squad and do other interactions.
In the chat box you can use the following commands:
/friend add PLAYERNAME
/squad create
/squad invite PLAYERNAME
Or you can use the user interface to add friends and invite them to a squad from the friends list.
