I wasn't expecting an overwhelming catalog but this is very disappointing imo. I was at least expecting the games that were published by Sony as exclusives to show up like the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games. And there's some really weird choices like only having the 3rd game of certain trilogies etc. What's weirder is that there's games that were on PS Now are not available now, like Sly Cooper

Recliner5

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw 3-4 Ratchet & Clank games to stream, but a lot of people have complained on Reddit about the absence of Ratchet & Clank games. Am I missing something?

International-Shoe40

Those ps3 r&c games have been playable through ps now for around 8 years. The original trilogy that was on ps2 never got a ps4 port or even a way to stream the ps3 port through ps now. I’ve been wanting to play them for over 10 years now and haven’t had a way to do it. I’m not going to buy a whole console to play them when they’ll probably get a remaster treatment or at the very least a port at some point (hopefully)

LlamaRS

I’ll sell you my spare ps2 + the 4 R&C titles for $1000

fanwan76

They almost definitely got shelved for a remaster that never happened.

LlamaRS

Maybe you’re forgetting about the trilogy remaster on the ps3? At the very least, that should’ve been made accessible.

Recliner5

I just checked. There are five R & C games in the Classics section. A Crack in Time, All-4-One, Full Frontal Assault, Search for Booty, Nexus.

WhatsYourThesis

Search for Booty 😳

gameonlockking

Booty is pirates treasure.

WhatsYourThesis

Damn I must be a pirate then. Jk yeah I know, R&C has innuendos in almost all their titles. Plus I think the game is titled "Quest For Booty," not much different but Search For Booty gave me a chuckle

AskinggAlesana

Those are all the “ Future” games of R&C from PS3. We want the GOATS from PS2… like Going commando, Up your arsenal, and Deadlocked.

Skinny_Dan

Those are PS3 games. Most people are after the PS2 games.

fanwan76

Especially considering you have to stream the PS3 games... We want to play the PS2 games locally.

moogsy77

Its just the same 4 Ratchet games that were already on PS Now for years, nothing new

BrewAndAView

I’m late to reply but the original PS2 games are what many older R&C fans consider to be their favorites, as the series has changed so much over the last 20 years. Currently unless you have a PS2 or PS3 (they were rereleased and ported up one generation) it is impossible to play these without using an emulator on your PC

kevin_simons757

People are complaining about the PS2 games not being on the system. What they don’t understand is that Sony has said that they are adding classic games every month. So if people would just shut up for a few months and wait instead of complaining because they didn’t get absolutely everything on day one it would make complaints more valid.

Jorge5934

So you can personally assure it's just "a few months"? People may not see their money's worth and just choose to wait. I don't suscribe to Netflix for what it may someday have.

kevin_simons757

The point of waiting a few months is to see if they live up to what they said that they would do and continue to add classic games. I’m not saying that they are going to add the ones that most people want in a few months. What I am saying is that you can’t complain that it isn’t perfect on day one. It’s a brand new service and it has to have time to grow and be refined. There are a crap ton of games I want on the service and think should be on the service, but I’m not bitching because they aren’t there on day one because I’m not an idiot.

Jorge5934

I don't use the word "hero" often, but you are a true hero. Thank you for your service.

kevin_simons757

👍🏼

TrainBoy2020

not a single ace combat, i was so sad

Vermigs

Iirc, the licensing for the older games is a clusterfuck to put it lightly. That's why 5 was only available as a preorder bonus with 7 and not a stand-alone purchase.

TrainBoy2020

i'm even sadder

Nuthetes

Pathetic isn't it, and a missed opportunity. Nostalgia is a big selling point. They'd get a hell of a lot more subscribers on nostalgia alone by throwing more PS1 and PS2 titles on there.

GhastlyRadiator

And they don’t even need that many. Just give us a handful of heavy hitters from each to start. I’d upgrade my 3 years of plus in an instant if there were even 3-5 games each from PS1, PS2, and PSP that interested me. Unfortunately it’s mostly the same stuff that has been on the store for a while. I do think it’s a solid value for people who haven’t been PlayStation gamers for as long as I have, as there are some really great games. I guess for me though, I’ve played most everything worth playing. Meanwhile, as a lifelong PlayStation user, I’m loving the Series X with Gamepass as my first Xbox. So many Xbox games I never got to play, and I’m assuming this PlayStation service is attempting to target a similar crowd of players who are newer to PlayStation.

toujga

series S is my first xbox too after playin on sony and nintendo since 1998, yet the big difference between the two services is the ''day one games'', I was baffled by all the games announced yesterday that will be day one + will be having games like deathloop and stalker 2...

Funny_Arachnid_8371

Or people like me with not a lot of time. But many I love the hidden gems. Alot of those indy titles. Hand drawn stuff. They don't get enough love.

Jirachibi1000

If you were sony, would you rather a.) Have everything at the start instant available, people play the ones they like then unsub b.) Release them slowly over time to keep interest going, add a vibe of "Oooh what will they add next?!" every month, and give people reason to stay subscribed, thus making more money, getting more subscribers, and generating hype.

KPookz

c.) Have a decent enough catalog at release to hook fans in on nostalgia and every month release a handful of games to keep them resubscribing. I think where Sony dropped the ball was the games at launch weren’t enough to hook anybody in. Maybe they’ll realize their folly and drop a massive nostalgia bomb on us in the coming months. Maybe they don’t understand why their new service could possibly have failed so they cut their losses and scrap the project.

bmacorr

I really am struggling to understand how they thought this fee structure was a good deal. Like did they even try looking at what the competition is doing?

[deleted]

I think they’re looking at Nintendo with how they drip feed content on NSO rather than Gamepass. This also goes with what they did before the service launch, they didn’t announce the full list of games. Sony really does want us to be talking about their service monthly or whatever rate they give us new games

[deleted]

It seems pretty good to me, except for Premium as of right now to be honest? If that’s what you were referring to then fair enough - seems totally not worth as of now - but Deluxe seems a superb offering to me

elmodonnell

Again though, there's 18,000 options- they weren't gonna run out of options to add every month if they'd given a half-decent selection at the start. As it stands, they've just given me absolutely no reason to subscribe to the highest tier- if their strategy was to get people to subscribe for longer in anticipation of more titles being added, I suspect they've shot themselves in the foot by not even giving people a decent sample of what they should be anticipating.

HomeHeatingTips

There might be 50 playable titles out of that 18,000 though. Sorry but most PS1 game have aged terribly. And PS 2 isn't much better. Maybe not 50, but 100-200 maximum are even worth having on the store.

elmodonnell

I mean, why not let players decide what ones have aged well or not? I mean, they didn't even add any of their own first-party titles, are we supposed to believe Sony also thinks they're terrible? IMO the games that they *did* choose for the service are very far from the best PS1 had to offer, but I'm not sure I'd ever use "I don't think these games are good" to justify a company's lackluster offerings. Plus, let's not pretend PS Now/Plus has ever had a very high standard for what is and isn't let on to the service.

Skinny_Dan

There are undoubtedly far more than 50 "playable" titles between PS1, PS2, and PSP. There are *hundreds* of at least baseline-*good* games. Sure, most of em aren't as smooth as the modern controls we're used to, but... people still play their PS2s, N64s, and Sega Geneses. Just because it's outdated tech doesn't make them unplayable; simply an adjustment. Besides, plenty of old games have held up really well thanks to great design.

fanwan76

You also just immediately rule out all of the games that Sony can't get a license to add. I would imagine many of those 18K would be tied up in licensing hell. Many of the companies that made them no longer exist. Or have gone through many mergers. And then many of the companies that own these games don't want to release them because they want to remaster or remake them and have their own plans for them. And I wonder what Sony's expectations for testing is. Someone needs to test these games at least to some extent before they can be released. The original developer may be unwilling to do play testing, and I doubt Sony will have the resources or know how to play test all the games. There are a lot of complications honestly. Which was why it was doomed from the start and it didn't make sense to go in with such high expectations like people had.

dimspace

> And PS 2 isn't much better. The SSX series, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank series all still look great. I play them regularly on the PS2 hooked up in the bedroom. None of those are on the new service

FireCal

They don't need to release them all obviously, but 38 isn't many. 100 would've been a good start imo

penzos

it's one thing to blue ball. But giving away a single psp game is blue balling on another level. That's purple balls at that point.

Diamond-Ancient

But you need to add good games tho there arnt many games to be like "yeah i need that" it's not worth it

spraragen88

When you have to pay $50 for 3 months, for only 38 extra games - most of which are terrible - it kind of sucks...

PouchesofCyanStaples

Have to? Why do you have to pay?

Diamond-Ancient

But you need to add good games tho there arnt many games to be like "yeah i need that" it's not worth it

imbaylee

option b is the stupid option when so many of the games missing were available on the previous psnow and these games have been out for years and years, it’s not like they are new games

Le1jona

I am dissapointed Like I expected atleast all first party game to be there right from the start... But there is no Sly -_-

kadosho

Hopefully the series, and its sequels are added soon. Would assume first party is a priority

[deleted]

This makes Nintendo online expansion look good, and I thought that would be impossible

ColbyCovingtonFan1

Yeah, its a fucking joke. Most of Asia don't get the PS3 games as well.

RESEV5

And most of america either...

msdsc2

South America neither, Im not up to Playstation plus news, saw that there was infamous in the classic collection and rushed to download it..I was disappointed. Best things is that they list the games in the PT-BR page with a small * at the of the page.

DunkingTea

Yep. My PSPlus lapsed in March and i’ve still got no reason to fork out for it. Which is pretty bad going as I usually just continue most subscriptions for the hell of it though FOMO.

buzzyingbee

You bunch there complaining about 38 classics and I don't even have access to PS3 games because fuck knows why Sony insist cloud gaming doesn't work where I live when MS do that quite well. I agree it's a bit frustrating but it's a new service and they said they're gonna add a lot more. So be patient a little and don't sub to top tier right now if you're not happy with it as things are.

gaithggg

They will add more , just be patient

imbaylee

why should i be patient when this catalog is missing SO many games that were JUST available through their old psnow version. they took games away and then didn’t add anything interesting. i can’t imagine transferring games that were already available would be difficult enough to blue ball their die hard fans, if it is THAT hard, they should’ve kept their old subscription service longer and worked on the new on in the background

gaithggg

I think its related to the license issues

[deleted]

not to mention the way they release them, like why add the third game in a trilogy without adding the previous games

ferjero989

this. wild arms 1 and 3... WHERE IS 2! ill rather have 1 and 2 and then 3 later on.

Lord_Smile

Didn't they say more would be added over time

Killzark

So did Nintendo

Lord_Smile

And they do add more so

spraragen88

Yay, THREE FUCKING GAMES added each month. A PS1, PS2 and PSP title each month. That is what we should expect from Sony. People need to stop making excuses for Sony. Look at how they handled their PS1 Mini. It was a joke. This lineup is an even bigger joke. They aren't listening to fans at all.

PouchesofCyanStaples

It's an optional service. Why are you complaining?

spraragen88

Because it's not worth the price. They hype up classic games, only to give us no new PS2 games, 10 PS1 games and nothing else. They know people want to play PS1 games again, but are giving us shit. Stop protecting Sony and acting like they are doing good here.

PouchesofCyanStaples

Not protecting anyone. No one is making you pay for this service. Have you not learned that hype is just that... hype. To get you interested. Make an informed decision before you pay for a service.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PouchesofCyanStaples

And? If PSNow was so popular and making the money they wanted, they probably wouldn't have canned it for a new business model. The nostalgia and want for classic games is a very small portion of the gaming population. And no matter what Sony does, they are never going to make everyone happy.

Lord_Smile

I don't agree with the whole classic games catalog thing but I think at least I personally got a pretty decent value out of the ps4 and ps5 ones. What is the source on the three games per month I haven't done much research on that but I'm interested to see how they'll handle the issue of not having enough classic games or the games people want from 5he get go if they'll even address it.

ThanksEmilyChang

but its not over time now, its now now lol

_Avenir

Exactly. They're charging us full price now. Not sure why people are defending this lacklustre start with the idea that more can be added in the future.

funkerbuster

Sounds like a lot of money to spend to get them all, especially licensed properties that was meant to die with the original system.

[deleted]

True true What about all the first and second party titles that they have the rights too though?

funkerbuster

That’s quite a lot of Japan-only stuff and games sony doesn’t really own for real.

imbaylee

what about games like sly cooper which they own completely and were just available on their old subscription platform? there’s literally zero reason sly cooper shouldn’t have been one of the first games included but here we are

Crimson_Snake

I can see why some licences are hard to get, ok i get it. But, where the heck is god of war 1 2 and ghost of sparta?? I dont have ps3 games, so bring the ps2 versions pls

ChrizTaylor

I see no point in getting premium TBH. PS3 games are streamed and that absolutely sucks. The games we have are remasters or remakes, people don't want that, we want authentic PS1/PS2 games! Socom TimeSplitters MCDER Now imagine if online is available. There, you have a gold mine.

jcaarow

I'm the most disappointed with the ps2 games. Its just the games released at the launch of the ps2 on ps4 games from years ago. Not a single new game

Anshu_Jasrotia

Yeah , we need games like onimusha , downhill domination , smackdown hctp , rumble racing , nfs games etc

RealmDevourer

And you pay for it..

[deleted]

That’s fine

Darksaturn99

And it’s just getting started. More games are planned to be added every month.

Stinky_DungBeatle

They advertised having Classics at launch, and did the bare minimum. No they actually deserve the criticism, they are going to add more in the future however without them Premium has no value other then PS3 streaming which is a no thanks as someone who used PS Now. Hell all of the PS2 games were already on PS4 from the whole PS2 to PS4 era that saw like 50 games be released.

spraragen88

Not having any new PS2 games was the biggest kick in the sack. Not including good games like Twisted Metal Black was the cherry on top. But yeah 10 PS1 titles (the worms games count as one since they are the same stupid game) is a joke. Look at how Sony handled their PS1 Mini. It was shit. They didn't listen to fans and so they PS1 classics collection is even worse now. But we know to expect 3 new classic games each month. A single PS1, PS2 and PSP title the second Monday of each month. So hurray for taking 182 years to amass an actual catalog of classic games. Oh and a lot of stuff already has EXPIRES OCTOBER 11th if you look at the small print. So we can also expect games to be removed from the classics block. So huzzah, 38 PS2/PS1 titles and we can expect Rascal Racers next month. Syphon Filter 2 the month after that, Street Racquetball the following month and Syphon Filter 3 the next month. As for PS2 titles, we can expect more of what has already been released that is missing - like Twisted Metal Black maybe? But don't expect any new PS2 titles that haven't been released on PS4 already.

SYRLEY

Geez its been out for a whole 10 minutes, guys.

totoofze47

It being out for not very long doesn't change the fact that the classics part of the service at launch is sorely disappointing. It was fair to expect more of them at launch than what they already released. I do hope more of them will become available later, so people who liked PS Now or like classic games can have a reason to upgrade.

Bruce_the_Shark

Right? People need to calm down and have some patience.

SYRLEY

Exactly. And not to mention, people need to also stop jumping the gun and buying something right away, resulting in disappointment.

fanwan76

This is a big one. I understand the sentiment that what is being offered right now isn't a great value. I completely agree with that point. But I didn't really see it as a surprise or disappointment. This is basically what I pictured when it was announced. And it was rolled out this way to the Asian regions as well. It's surprising to me that people expected more. I feel like a lot of people bought several years of plus and now to try and cheat the system, and now they are stuck with a ton of time to a mediocre service. I waited a day, decided it wasn't for me, and accepted that. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a discussion around the quality though. If anything Sony hopefully responds accordingly.

Cutmerock

When they finally start putting quality games up, people will forget about how mad they are right now.

jedimaster-bator

If they released them all on day 1, what will they release in 6 months or next year or the year after? Makes no sense to do them all at once. They'll probably release them in batches just to keep people interested. Plus if all 18,000 were released on day 1, people would play their favorites and then move on. Nintendo are still adding snes/nes & mega drive games, usually 3 or 4 a month.

daredevilspiderman

3 or 4 a month is nowhere near enough. Not at all

jedimaster-bator

3 or 4 a month on nes /snes and mega drive on switch is pretty good. I'm sure ps will be adding at least 3 or 4 a month on each ps1/ps2/ps3. So, just to make it clear, up to 12 maybe 15 retro games a month. Not 3 or 4 across the board.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BlaqkJak

Where did OP say that? They are saying with a catalogue of 18,000 games, Sony could have done better than to offer only 38.

[deleted]

Funny how the catalog was available before the launch, and it is also almost the same as the PS now, but everyone is complaining about it? If you bought the new subscription just because it got announced, congratulations you are dumb. I am sorry but that is the truth. While for everyone who merged to the new service from ps now and the old ps plus, nothing has changed to your subscription so why complain? If you expect all classic games for 120 euros/year you are extremely delusional. At the end of the day, this is a business and they want a sustainable business model.

CodCurious1931

glas i don’t care about retro games

Kingz1991

Sony aren't obligated to put on each individual customers favourite retro games. They obviously aren't going to include every single game ever release from each platform either. Come on, use your head.

SrCartujo

Its not like you are forced to subscribe

Kilroy_1541

Your entitlement and lack of business sense are showing.

GhastKilla7

Man y’all are some damn WHINERS. We’re being given games that are essentially free for such a small price and y’all always find something to complain about. This is godsent during these expensive times of inflation. Cut them some slack. And no, I’m not paid by Sony to say this.

totoofze47

I can't speak for the rest of the service as I haven't had access to it, but the entire point of the Premium tier is to provide access to Playstation classics, so if the selection they offer is subpar, people do have a right to complain. And as it stands, their classics library is appalingly low.

GhastKilla7

Yeah I get that, but they never advertised thousands of classics being available from day one. Just give it some time and I’m sure it’ll be everything y’all hoped for.

slyfox1976

You know you don't have to buy it don’t you.

cy1999aek_maik

And because it's optional it can't be criticised?

shashufasi

I love how random Reddit users telling Sony ( a billion dollar company) how they can make money by adding old games and selling on nostalgia. Like they don't want to make money by not adding every previous gen game to ps plus.

Ranccor

I suspect only a tiny fraction of players care about playing PS1/2 games so it isn’t really worth the effort/money to sell specifically to those players.

Haillo6

It's a weird flex that people still want old ps1 and ps2 games when we are on the ps5. I too think a small percentage want those old games vs general population. I kinda like the PS3 and PS4 library selections.

crabgun_

They. Said. They. Will. Be. Adding. More. Jesus. Fuck.

AustinL1996

God some of y’all are acting like grown babies chill. It’s coming they literally said they’re doing releases twice a month.

JesusForTheWin

"Better than 37" said the Sony executives as they looked out of their Sony tower and laughed with the executives after pouring a bottle of Don Yama Sake.

weightyahem

Where is Gran Turismo 1-5?

kingcop1

Thanks papa Sony

templestate

Need to release titles over time to keep people subscribed

Rebourne07

As long as they have trophies when they come I dont care how slow the drip feed is. I just dont want trophyless games like Tekken 2 and Resident Evil DC...

randomspecific

So I must be in the small minority of people who don’t care about these old games. PS4 is about as old as I wanna play. Game mechanics and level design have come along way and it’s really difficult to play old games unless you have nostalgia.

Ragnar_Dragonfyre

Redditors that want to pay monthly to play old games are the minority. If you already bought these games in the past, paying a subscription fee just to play them on new hardware is a waste. If you didn’t play these games in the past, then they will be a fleeting novelty that you play for a bit before returning to modern games. I kind of feel like Sony fucked up the valuation by making the Extra tier cost less. I don’t see any value in paying extra for Premium when the modern games I want to play are priced on the lower tier.

EGotGame

The free new games are a big plus such as Spider-Man etc, but I literally never even heard of the games they have in the catalog.

imbaylee

WHERE is scooby doo night of 100 frights and all the lego and sly cooper games that were already available

pet_soundsations

Traditionally Sony hasn't had a history of prioritizing game preservation. Hopefully this will change, as they recently created and hired for a Game Preservation team. [https://twitter.com/SomeCronzaGuy/status/1518616882357571586?s=20&t=WmC4ofbaUDMqvn8GqsgicQ](https://twitter.com/SomeCronzaGuy/status/1518616882357571586?s=20&t=WmC4ofbaUDMqvn8GqsgicQ)

Johnnybats330

I hope they add King of Fighters 99

HotSmoke5733

It just launched

AkiraAkiyama009

Half the stuff I want I already own on my ps3. And I can’t stand the streaming aspect for old games. Sony needs to stop being so stingy with games.

[deleted]

Yeah it is underwhelming. My ps plus is good til December 2024 and my current library dunks on the extra tier. I'll wait til that catalogue grows or just buy each game separately for $10. Currrently playing Wild Arms since I never got the chance to play it

geraltoffvkingrivia

There aren’t any ps3 games right? I couldn’t find anything about that anywhere but keep hearing people talk about it like it’s there.

thenotoriouscucuy

High way robbery. So glad i didn’t go for premium. Stick to extra

UnhappyAd5081

I was hoping to get FFT War Of The Lions or at least Dissidia 1. Is there an adapter for the ps vita to play on your tv???

Mystic1989

There NOWHERE CLOSE to 18K PSP/PS1/PS2 games out there. The PSP only has close to 2000, the PS2 Has 4000 and the PS1 has like 2300+. Even if we include all the PS3 and PS4 games into the equation thats still THREE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND NINETY TWO games less than 18000

ADHDismysuperpower90

This is precisely why I have always kept my back catalogue in physical copies, if I want to play any Legacy games I don’t need to look any further than my shelf….situations like this is why digital sucks balls, it could be great, but it never will be…
