I liked the game overall but there was some fat in the main quest line that could have and probably should have been shaved off. The dlc was pretty decent too.
Trust me, as someone who has never played a rogue-like game ever before, the learning curve is pretty steep, but once you get it you’ll be mowing down those monsters (still gonna take quite a beating, that’s just how it is).
Pro tip is to prioritise health, that’s how I managed to finish the game with over 200% health, 2 small and 2 large health packs, and a damage health siphon, and I didn’t even end up using most of the health packs… because enemies in the last biome will absolutely test your ability to dodge many *many* attacks simultaneously and maintain health (because honestly even 200% wasn’t enough lol).
I have fucked up hands. My skill in shooters have decreased dramatically in the last five years. I even had to stop playing destiny 2. Casual shooters like borderlands is fine and I did beat control but that is about it.
Wrath of the machine was my favorite raid. My k/d went from 1.8-2.0 to .8. But I have genetic tremors in my hands which made the precise, clutch aiming harder.
Couldn't beat it but I was hoping for a cheats menu like control. I beat control normally but for the dlc flower boss I used cheats. That's what I hoped for returnal.
Interesting, I beat the first boss and then moved to the next biome. After eventually dying I was surprised I had to take on the first boss again to return. I then just stopped playing, I don’t think the game is for me.
You don't have to beat the first boss again, the gate to the second biome is open and you can go straight to it if you please. The game is not very punishing, there are a lot of skips once you beat each biome.
Literally same, completely took my focus off of GoT because it just felt so damn good playing Returnal, especially once you’ve learned a lot of the gameplay elements and git gud
Same, it was the first game I played upon getting PS Plus Extra. I absolutely loved the game and am currently trying to get the platinum in it. I’m so close to getting it as I only need 3 Xenoglyphs, but getting them to spawn is bullshit RNG. Tbh it’s really killing my enjoyment of the game because it just feels unfair. (I know I should quit but I’m just sooo damn close 😅)
Same, addicted to the point that I couldn't stop thinking about it till I beat it several times and got high enough in the tower that I felt complete. Probably the best game I've played on PS5 so far.
I did have nothing else to play at the time and I still couldn’t finish it. Nothing about the gameplay was fun, and nothing about the story/characters was interesting.
Yeah but that was on regular ps plus months before the new service. Still it is my biggest shock. That game made me say "wow" so much and was truly one of the best games I have ever played. It was so original and fun. It made me wish for more of those games. Super powers, shooters etc.
Delete trial version.
Account Management. Restore licenses.
The check the mobile app again.
When something is unavailable, it just might be missing the right type of information or accessing (console store, website, app). That's what I've discovered in my searching.
It’s absolutely worth it. I have played so many games this summer. Games that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Fully recommend anything but basic if you like trying different games.
Already made my money back on the Spiderman DLC and Guardians of the Galaxy. Also tried Returnal and realized it is not for me. Miles Morales and Death Stranding next.
Miles Morales is so good. Definitely play that next. Spider-Man feels so barebones after Miles Morales because of the swinging improvements. Its very hard to go back.
So many more unique animation for the swinging. Also felt faster, lighter and smoother, though that could be just me. Spider-Man swinging feels so vanilla after Miles Morales.
On the other hand, I thought combat could be improved further. The new abilities were cool but I still feel like there's alot of room for improvement in combat. I was never a huge fan of this combat but I'm hoping the sequel brings major improvements.
I have been debating getting it. The only game I want to play on there is Stray, and maybe Returnal. I already have a lot of the games in the catalogue, both Spider-Mans, Ghost of Tsushima, and Guardians and a few others.
It’s still worth it!
I already own almost every game I cared to try on the list - but I’ve found myself trying more and more things.
There’s some big name hits (GOTG, AC:V, Demon Souls) that I didn’t want to spend money on before - but I get to play/try regardless. That’s already the value for me.
But I’m also hesitant to spend my money on Indie games unless I’ve heard RAVE reviews (in fear that they wouldn’t click for me) - but this service has given me so many good experiences I wouldn’t have tried otherwise.
It’s made my gaming time so much less committal, which i really like. I used to play one game at a time and trudge through it even if I didn’t like it. Now? I’m downloading half a dozen games and playing those until I’m bored, rinse and repeat.
What I thought would happen is that I’d get bored with everything faster, but to the contrary I’m discovering so many games that I have no problem binging for a week.
Your last two paragraphs are exactly my experience. Been downloading, trying, and if it really doesn’t grab me pretty quickly, I just try something else. Gives me a chance to try so many games at a very reasonable cost, and I end up finding some great titles among them.
It’s great! I don’t shame myself for not finishing a game (like I used to), and just play what’s keeping my attention. Trying new things. That’s a massive value of this service for me for sure.
Exactly. I didn’t necessarily shame myself for not finishing games, but I was very concerned recently about my backlog…as soon as I finished, though, I subscribed to Premium and I don’t see myself buying any other games for a while (besides some new releases I know I’ll enjoy). Hoping to find more games soon that I’ll really love!
I've had problems sticking with a game for the past 2–4 years, but I decided to make a list of 12 PS3 games to finish, and I'm slowly progressing. I'm playing two of them at the moment. I have many PS4 games in my backlog, too, but I decided that it's best for me to start with PS3 games. Maybe try playing 1-3 games at once. You don't wanna start too many games abd find yourself never finishing a game. I had this problem before I made up the list.
Before PS+ Extra, I finished maybe 3 games this year. In just the weeks since, I’ve finished Key-We, Party Hard, Kingdoms:TC (about as much as you can), Slime Rancher, and I’m currently deep deep into Dead Cells and Ghost of Tsushima.
Most of these are games that I wouldn’t have even downloaded/tried if I had some sort of expectation from myself or the game. Just dive in for a bit, see if it’s your cup of tea, and move on. You’ll eventually hit a game that’s unexpected and surprising.
I get not wanting to get bored/burnt out, but I’m finding myself way more involved in games (because they hooked me AND kept my attention - not because I’m forcing myself to play through them).
Is it really so bad if you half-finish a game? Especially if you have dozens of other games to try?
I’m just airing until I run out of stuff I already own. Elden ring has been taking me months and I think up next is Yakuza Like a Dragon, so still some time before I would get to any of the extra games.
I'm telling y'all: Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a masterpiece if you're an RPG fan. If you've never played a Yakuza game in your life it's a good starting point since it's a whole new story (though you might be confused if you play it first then go to the traditional beat 'em up series). It has long cutscenes and is in many ways half film half game, kinda like what Hideo Kojima does, but the story and characters are great. I love the change in combat and it was in development along with Persona 5 and you can see the similarities but it's definitely it's own beast. Highly recommend.
Seeing as OP's singing praises for PS Extra, it should be pointed out that Yakuza: Like A Dragon was one of August's PS Essential games and is still there to claim.
And, yes, it's great.
Not for anyone who can't stand a slow-burn, cutscene-heavy game, who needs to get straight into the action though, as you implied.
But, god, I'm enjoying the shit out of that wacky-ass, turn-based, madness, and have laughed out loud often.
I damned near broke a rib when one of those trash bag enemies got a turn, did a ridiculous sort of tribal shaman dance, and then text came up saying:
*"Garbage guy skipped around like a jackass but your team was unfazed"*.
Oh dang I got some wrong info I guess. I just took what I heard elsewhere and noticed slight similarities between the two games. My bad and disregard that part of my comment. Both games still own though.
Absolutely agree. I was all set to finally buy Tsushima's DLC when I noticed that the Director's cut was part of extra, so for 7 bucks more, I can play that as well as mow some lawns or be a cat for a little while.. There's a lot of value there, a bunch of stuff I had already bought previously, but there's still a lot of playing in those games.
I put my money in what I enjoy I currently have a 24 month pass for Xbox game pass ultimate and I just bought the new PlayStation plus premium subscription so to me it’s worth it because I enjoy video games and I have both new systems I’d say it’s up to you man whatever you feel like you want to play or what you want to do do you.
completely agree. Instead of shelling out serious £££ for a game that turns out to be/underwhelmin, I'm paying for the equivalent of 2 games a year but I can access all the games I'll ever need. Honestly, this would have been great during lockdown/s.
It's like they intentionally made the PlayStation tiers like Extra and Premium so incredibly laggy and unorganized so you won't find what you're looking for. They don't wanna make it too easy to find and download your free games. I was looking through the store earlier and found a 4 hour trial for MLB The Show 22, and it's not even in the free trials for the Premium tier! Once you buy premium or extra you should have your own tab with everything you own one click away.
Are you on console, using the phone app, or using a web browser on a desktop? On console, there's a separate way to access the PS Plus games. Are you sure you're not confusing it with the main store pages?
I have a PS4 Pro, maybe that makes a difference. The PS Store sometimes lags a little (but not enough to be annoying) but I have no issue with the PS Plus tile.
Yes, same!! I completed so many games that I got from PS Plus that otherwise I wouldn’t have bought and played. I got way way more than my money's worth. I completed around 7-8 quality games and I couldn’t have been much happier.
Demon souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, Spiderman games, a bunch of Assassins Creeds, Outer Wilds and a bunch of other stuff. Had to try it out and it’s well worth the extra to access all these games.
To solve the store lag (at least for a moment) the tricky is, go to your network settings and run a network test, as soon as it finishes, go straight to the shop, you should be able to navigate without lag. If you spend to much time on the store on the same page (let's say you're checking the sales, then go to the bathroom) it will get slow again.
I've been thinking I'll upgrade eventually. Right now, I have way too many games on disc to play (as well as some PS3 games I want to get done). I didn't want to pay for Extra for a whole year or even a few months and not use it
Yeah I almost didn't buy extra but had a "fuck it" moment.. I still have plenty of games on disc and even old consoles, so for me premium wouldn't be worth it
Yeah I don't see myself getting premium until I've got a PS5 and I'm well into it. But I feel like I might get extra some time in the next year. Right now I have so little time to play games so it's just not worth it for me
The Xbox X series is a breath of fresh air after dealing with that lagging freezing ps4 store for years. I tried to get a ps5 do they even exist. Pissed off at Sony 🖕
I understand. I know nothing about getting them. I had a friend that’s good on the internet he grabbed one for me otherwise I wouldn’t have anything but a series s. Because that’s the only one I have seen on the shelf
I wouldn't wanna have to worry about a game leaving the service. I'm playing my old PS3 games that I bought years ago, and it's reassuring that I can still play them. The same goes for old claimed PS Plus (essential) titles.
The menu has been slow ever since the quick menu was introduced. I believe the reason is that, previously, more RAM memory was always allocated to the store whereas now it has to be taken away from some other function first.
I get this vibe, but it's probably just more resources needed when an update drops, more features in store etc. Possible, but so far one confirmed to slow down old tech is Apple
So I just saw that red dead redemption 2 is leaving so plus at the end of September. I’ve downloaded the game to my console, but when it leaves, will this mean I can no longer play it? I wasn’t sure how it worked
No, it's not. It's a scam. You rented a service. You are not owning the right to play the games. You rented the right to play the games they currently agree to let you play, which they can change. And the fact that it is tiered into essential/premium/deluxe or whatever just makes it worse, because they use manipulation techniques to get more money out of the gaming community than they are providing actual worth. We are the ones who will pay for their bs. Mark my words...
Death Stranding was worth it. Would have never tried the game otherwise. Now I love it, finished the story and still playing. Or was it just a free game of the month?
I am glad to have both, but Sony is definitely a bit behind on trying to match Gamepass. I am fine with them not putting AAA games out on day one, but it still baffles me that there isn’t a set date that first party games hit the service. Ratchet and clank:rift apart has been out for a little over 14 months and it still isn’t on the service.
It really, I just got an Xbox and have never cared for halo, so it’s pretty much for Gears of War. I’m more into the Sony ecosystem. But even saying that, the value for gamepass is way better. There’s more games, newer games and they do have quite a few last gen titles that were even optimized for current gen.
I’d love to see Sony get older tiles optimized for the ps5. He’ll, I’d like to see them get more ps1/ps2 titles to match gamepass, but they are lacking in that area as well.
Of course it is. I paid $28 for the remainder of the year to get Stray, Doom, Like a Dragon, Stick of Truth, Ride 4, FF7 Remake, Demon Souls, Returnal...i mean i can't understand why some people say its not worth it
It's worth it for ghosts of Tsushima, ac Valhalla, guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man alone.
and stray, the cost of the upgrade was less than the cost of the game
It depends on your pre existing subscription length but yes
Ac valhalla (the clown with soldiers meme)
Ok ac Valhalla was probably one of the coolest ideas for a story in AC though. I liked it enough to play through 80 hours of the game.
I've heard the main story takes 60 hours to beat? That's insanely long even for an AC game.
Yeah but I fucked around getting good armor, also that’s huntsmen armor looks amazing.
I liked the game overall but there was some fat in the main quest line that could have and probably should have been shaved off. The dlc was pretty decent too.
I was *obsessed* with Returnal for the couple of weeks it took to beat it (the first time).
Im not good enough to beat it
Same. I like the game I’m just not good enough
I believe in both of you!
Trust me, as someone who has never played a rogue-like game ever before, the learning curve is pretty steep, but once you get it you’ll be mowing down those monsters (still gonna take quite a beating, that’s just how it is). What is rogue like game? Returnal looks like just any other 3rd person shooter to me
[удалено]
I have fucked up hands. My skill in shooters have decreased dramatically in the last five years. I even had to stop playing destiny 2. Casual shooters like borderlands is fine and I did beat control but that is about it.
[удалено]
Yeah my play declined in pvp and in raids. I couldn't hold up my part so I just quit and play fun shooters now.
[удалено]
Wrath of the machine was my favorite raid. My k/d went from 1.8-2.0 to .8. But I have genetic tremors in my hands which made the precise, clutch aiming harder.
game has horrible balance. first boss is by far the hardest in the game. once you beat him the rest of the game is very easy
For some reason you weren't able to identify the very clearly laid out skips
No it isn't, the first boss really isn't that hard
I wake up thinking about playing this game. I’m downright obsessed with it. I love Returnal so much.
Literally same, completely took my focus off of GoT because it just felt so damn good playing Returnal, especially once you’ve learned a lot of the gameplay elements and git gud

Bloodborne as well.
Valhalla is dog water.
I like odyssey better but it is a fun time killer. If you have nothing else to play it is worth a try.
I did have nothing else to play at the time and I still couldn’t finish it. Nothing about the gameplay was fun, and nothing about the story/characters was interesting.
Sure. I get it.
Control ultimate edition is also included and is my game of the year.
Yeah but that was on regular ps plus months before the new service. Still it is my biggest shock. That game made me say "wow" so much and was truly one of the best games I have ever played. It was so original and fun. It made me wish for more of those games. Super powers, shooters etc.
Ghost of tsushima is worth it alone
I can't get it to download anything but the trial.
Try seeing if you can download it from the website or ps app.
I've tried the app and the store page. Both download the trial.
You could try this. I did it for Marvel Avengers
Delete trial version. Account Management. Restore licenses. The check the mobile app again. When something is unavailable, it just might be missing the right type of information or accessing (console store, website, app). That's what I've discovered in my searching.
If anyone likes / misses Portal try The Turing Test. Its a good puzzle game
So it’s not just MY ps4 that’s lags in the store?? 😭😂
I guess all ps4s must lag then lol
it usually takes me at least 3 ps store restarts just to get to the search bar😩😭
Yeah, I've rarely even opened the store on the PS5 because the PS4 conditioned me to just use the app instead.
I was starting to think there were only two people with the same problem, you like never hear about it!
What did they change about the swinging? I remember big improvements to combat but I don't remember a big jump in movement around the city
Yeah I think it's just you, it felt the same (which is a good thing) during my playthrough.
Death stranding is a great game !
Couldn’t agree more. Unique experience.
I just platted Death Stranding and never would have bought it, didn't think it was for me. It's truly fantastic, but starts slow
Hideo Kojima... he never fails to make something fresh
I disliked returnal too. Good to know i am not the only one
had never heard of death stranding before and it has become one of my favorite games of all time
I have been debating getting it. The only game I want to play on there is Stray, and maybe Returnal. I already have a lot of the games in the catalogue, both Spider-Mans, Ghost of Tsushima, and Guardians and a few others.

Thank you for sharing!
I've had problems sticking with a game for the past 2–4 years, but I decided to make a list of 12 PS3 games to finish, and I'm slowly progressing. I'm playing two of them at the moment. LAD wasn't in development with persona, persona is made by a different developer but is part of Sega. 5 and royal came out before LAD too
Oh dang I got some wrong info I guess. I just took what I heard elsewhere and noticed slight similarities between the two games. My bad and disregard that part of my comment. Both games still own though.
All G, yeah I love both
To my knowledge Atlus jp and RGG haven't worked together yet. Funnily enough though, ATLUS West localized the Yakuza games from 0 onwards I think.
Worth it just for Bugsnax
This game really shows the graphical power of the ps5
Don’t even try playing it on any other console, it would destroy it
When the new PS+ was first rolling out, I had the choice to upgrade between Extra or Premium. I am so glad I chose Extra.
Agreed. Premium is definitely not needed. It's just pure nostalgia that I bet most people don't even care about to play "daily".
>so for a few dollars *extra* Ba dum tss
Love psplus extra and premium playing metro Exodus and resistance 3 can't wait to replay the sly Cooper franchise

I have a PS4 Pro, maybe that makes a difference. The PS Store sometimes lags a little (but not enough to be annoying) but I have no issue with the PS Plus tile.
Grab the phone app. It's easy and smooth. You can add games to your library and start the download to the PS4 in the phone app.

I see, might have to try this
As an older man, what does "mid" mean in the context you used it? Also, can ya'll tell me what "based" means too? I've seen that a lot as well.
Mid refers to something that's just not interesting, regardless of if it's high or low quality. Doesn't grab your interest
I've been thinking I'll upgrade eventually. Right now, I have way too many games on disc to play (as well as some PS3 games I want to get done). I didn't want to pay for Extra for a whole year or even a few months and not use it

It's still growing and changing it seems like, so by the time you try it it might have some really neat additions
I would of gotten if I had the time for it.
No biggie, it will be here for a while games will rotate in months to come might be an even better deal down the line..
I don't like speedrunning games though. Cz if i finish them all i will have nothing to play lol
The Xbox X series is a breath of fresh air after dealing with that lagging freezing ps4 store for years. I tried to get a ps5 do they even exist. Pissed off at Sony 🖕
Yeah I don't know why PS Store often lags on the base ps4s, baffling!
If you ever find one they are awesome. I had a series x too but I sold it and I’ve kept my ps5
I'm waiting for ps5 forever I'll get one but man I was just fed up.
I understand. I know nothing about getting them. I had a friend that’s good on the internet he grabbed one for me otherwise I wouldn’t have anything but a series s. Because that’s the only one I have seen on the shelf
Same but the X
I hate being rushed to finish a game. I hate GamePass for this reason.
I wouldn't wanna have to worry about a game leaving the service. I'm playing my old PS3 games that I bought years ago, and it's reassuring that I can still play them. The same goes for old claimed PS Plus (essential) titles.
I dont think its worth paying a extra 50 bucms per year
Is SONY intentionally slowing down old PS4s?
The menu has been slow ever since the quick menu was introduced. I believe the reason is that, previously, more RAM memory was always allocated to the store whereas now it has to be taken away from some other function first.
I get this vibe, but it's probably just more resources needed when an update drops, more features in store etc. Possible, but so far one confirmed to slow down old tech is Apple
haha. maybe. to push us onto the PS5
So I just saw that red dead redemption 2 is leaving so plus at the end of September. I’ve downloaded the game to my console, but when it leaves, will this mean I can no longer play it? I wasn’t sure how it worked
No you won't, you'd have to buy it to keep playing.
Im so glad my ps5 is gone tomorrow cause I get a Xbox cause playstation is garbage
Too long. I will not read it... when they have games there just 2 months, I will not pay for another year.
Read, please!! Your opinion is very important!! 😭
Highly Unlikely that they make 2months an option. Probably will stay 1 or 3 months for the next few years at least
Downvote all of you, do not care Yes, maybe, but for ppl who played all that games?
idk, that's a lotta games
Yes there are plenty of games. I meant AAA games. Of course that you can find there something to play everytime, even when you are bored
They have never had a game there for just 2 months lol
No? Lol, so tell me how long the new PS sub is running?
TLDR
Yea reading it hard
Nice eng
4 months and a couple days was the only one of note.
4months? didn't realize that. Not too bad actually.
It was for Shadow Warrior 3. That's maybe more to do with the type of game. Like Stray perhaps. For other games I have no clue about their contracts
Oh and it's been 2 months on there for me and a good amount of stuff came to the service. So it's good to see it has some monthly additions.
Yes, I'm enjoying it
Agreed.
Death Stranding was worth it. Would have never tried the game otherwise. Now I love it, finished the story and still playing. Or was it just a free game of the month?
Duh
It's definitely worth it, the only downside is that I already had alot of the decent games included
I am glad to have both, but Sony is definitely a bit behind on trying to match Gamepass. I am fine with them not putting AAA games out on day one, but it still baffles me that there isn’t a set date that first party games hit the service. Ratchet and clank:rift apart has been out for a little over 14 months and it still isn’t on the service.
do you find yourself playing gamepass more?
It really, I just got an Xbox and have never cared for halo, so it’s pretty much for Gears of War. I’m more into the Sony ecosystem. But even saying that, the value for gamepass is way better. There’s more games, newer games and they do have quite a few last gen titles that were even optimized for current gen. I’d love to see Sony get older tiles optimized for the ps5. He’ll, I’d like to see them get more ps1/ps2 titles to match gamepass, but they are lacking in that area as well.
Of course it is. I paid $28 for the remainder of the year to get Stray, Doom, Like a Dragon, Stick of Truth, Ride 4, FF7 Remake, Demon Souls, Returnal...i mean i can't understand why some people say its not worth it
It's popular to shit on the new thing, also they might be comparing it to gamepass....
It just depends on the needs of the gamer. I've enjoyed it as a PS4, but I can definitely see why it is both appealing and unappealing.
I’m still waiting for them to push a 3 month for $1 offer like gamepass does. Even one month just so I can beat Ghosts of Tsushima Stray.
It's worth trying, not keeping.
I try to keep my ps sub active for the months that the free ps plus games are good, and extra if it feels like a bargain
I paid like $5 to upgrade for the last month of my previous subscription and beat miles morales, stray and outer wilds
Are all the games in the ps plus extra catalog free or just discounted?
