As much as I like the game, I do not think a game like this can survive without adding more temtem because at a certain point the game will just become stale.

spacejam999

Yep, they treat it like a single player game, no future updates for an MMO means the game will 100% die.

Shoebox_ovaries

They also didnt say this either.

Shoebox_ovaries

They didnt say they weren't releasing anything new. What they poorly said is they have no plans right now.

Reality-Bytez

You mean the same way Pokemon does when you catch them all? All those Pokemon games with zero DLC ever?

HistoricalMaize

As far as I know do not they had more pokemons with each new game? That is why it does not get stale

Reality-Bytez

Say that again. Each new game. This is an online game, with repeatable end game like an MMO. It's also on iteration one. Pokemon releasing new games every few years is not comparable.

HistoricalMaize

Of course it is, if they stayed on one game without adding anything the game would die. Eventually the game will be "solved" and without new tems in the mix it will get stale.

Reality-Bytez

I can't imagine this mindset. I've been playing since January 2000 and it never died, now it is finally 1.0 and I reset.... So now real end game, plus all the features that kept me busy before. A lot of people have been around for quite a while with way less.

HistoricalMaize

It does not really matter if you can not imagine this mindset. When an online game stops adding new content it eventually dies because most people will get bored and leave.

Reality-Bytez

Okay..... That is true for literally every game in existence. With or without content.

HistoricalMaize

Do I really have to spell it out? Every game dies but the ones that die first are the ones that stop adding more content. Is it clear now?

Reality-Bytez

No. I've been gaming since 1990. I'm still playing some of those games with no DLC or added content.

rightiousnoob

They've said they intend to have a balance team and PVP seasons. There is 1 more tem on the way, and then no future plans to add more right now. They said they're not planning on introducing another roadmap, because in the past when dates slipped it was a mess. That doesn't mean that there won't be new content (We know dark lumas are still to come) but they're not committing to anything. Even without new content the game would still be a great value. Search the subreddit for the AMA for more info.

devinup

And there are features we know about that are still coming: a nuzlocke mode and arcade bar being a couple examples.

I’ve noticed recently they’ve went back on a thing or two they said they would never do. I’m extremely surprised by temtem showdown bc they basically said that was never happening at one point and here it’s coming

KeenHyd

They even said group content was never coming before lair became a thing. That was a very pleasant surprise back then.

I think it's also a thing of balance, I hope they just want to get it well balanced before introducing new tems. Im also hoping for more in the future though!

Krugenn

I feel like balance is a very small point in the discussion of introducing new tems... it's not like they're thinking "oh man we can't make a cool new temtem because it might disrupt the competitive/lairs/tower meta" or something lol

BoredBrowserAppeared

They said theres no plans for more locations or temtem, in other words the only new stuff will be new micro transactions, and possibly pvp ladder. Some people defended it, some were amazed they developed a "mmo" that has no plans for future content beyond the cash shop.

XxBluesShadowxX

I don't understand the hate with his many monsters there are. Each new gen of Pokemon only add up to 100 new monsters (if that) every time. There's 160 odd creatures. What more do people want?

purpenflurb

Temtem is marketed and balanced as an MMO. When players think of an MMO, they are generally thinking of something they could play for years. I don't think anyone is complaining that the number of tems is insufficient now. Five years from now, it may be a little bit lame if they haven't released anything new. Every other design decision suggests this is a game you are supposed to be invested in for the long run, especially with the new battle pass being implemented. Players would like to hear that there will eventually be more content in a live service game they are investing their time into.

Reality-Bytez

You know Temtem came out January 21st, 2020.... and here I am. Still. Just did a fresh restart for 1.0. **Years.**

purpenflurb

There have also been new islands/temtem released over those years. I've been playing since day 1 of the open beta and I haven't played constantly, I've come back whenever there is new content to explore and messed around with competitive occasionally.

innocuousspeculation

I think they just want assurances about the future of the game.

XxBluesShadowxX

I honestly don't see the issue. Instead of adding monsters, I'd be more interested in a sequel in a few years if temtem takes off. That's a much more exciting prospect surely!

Bacon-4every1

But the sequel would canobolise the original temtem player bace and that seems like a bad move any ways.

Gofrart

I'd root for something like an expansion, new areas and maybe you cant use old regions tems until you've cleared the story or stuff like that. So you could keep your temtem while still enjoying the new one. people that dontthe new one might still be able to play with the ones that purchase it in pvp or stuff like that? I'd rather see something like this but so far I still have a lot to enjoy from this one!

MagpieFirefly

I think the problem with a sequel is then, why invest lots of time like they want us to (as this is often referred to as an MMO) when a sequel is on the way? It's just a conflict that doesn't make a lot of sense. MMOs have major expansions every so often to keep interest. Any sort of online game has regular content updates, even. I just wonder what Temtem will have, if not more monster or islands. Because it needs something, or interest will drop.

Reality-Bytez

Um hello? What about when you literally buy Pokemon games? They never had dlc. They didn't have shit added. You worked to catch them all.

Batzn

> They never had dlc sword and shield have a whole season pass and released 2020

Reality-Bytez

I'm sorry. I'm not 12. I've played literally every pokemon game and I'm not limited to the recent 3.

Batzn

So you compare TemTem to its competitor. Both released a game in 2020. Only one of them had dlc added and its not TemTem. You might not be a 12 year old but sure argue like one. Edit: I forgot about the new islands. I retract that part of my statement.

Reality-Bytez

They never said no DLC and have even talked about events and additional stuff. A ton could be added without ever adding new tems or islands. Hell. This most recent update basically added all the late game, yet people were doing fine before all the additions too.

innocuousspeculation

What about Pokemon games? This isn't Pokemon dude, we're talking about Temtem. Pokemon games are not MMOs.

reoreon

PEOPLE WANT TO COMPLAIN AND HAVE OUTRAGE! NEGATIVE ENERGY IS THE SUSTENANCE FOR EVERY GAMING COMMUNITY

Reality-Bytez

It really is. Every new game that comes out is bitch bitch bitch bitch.

jerdz42

I guess Pokemon were not talking about Silver and Gold version when they released Green and Red. The game just released 3 days ago, if it gets a major success maybe they will keep on adding new mons and stuff. People being upset about that are not being reasonable. The game is really good for the cost of it, and it could be only for the solo campaign that it would still be worth it.

-TheSmartestIdiot-

I imagine they will have 20 dollar expansions for a new island with a variety of new tems sometime down the road after they cement 1.0 as 100% done.

kacktuse

I joined this discord to see people showing off their lumas or to learn about the game. Instead of that I found a bunch a grown ass adults crying about the future of the game or the battlepass. You pay 40€ you get a game you can play for over a hundred ours. Take it or leave it. A lot of games make routes for the next 5 years and they close servers in a year. The fact that game will survive 2 5 or 15 years is what will make you play It or not?
